Drew had an encounter in 1996 here in Washington up in Snohomish county. Drew describes a creature with an odd movement come out of the ditch into the road. The encounter still bothers him today. We will also be speaking to Chuck. Chuck had an encounter in 2015 at Diablo Lake. The lake is in WA state. Its a glacial-fed lake and in the summer turns a turquoise color because of fine rock particles that refract sunlight. Crater lake in Oregon has that same appearance during the summer. Chuck describes several creatures vocalizing and then it came into camp.
Chuck writes “In 2015 I spent the day on a motorcycle ride over SR20 in WA State. We rode around Winthrop and Twisp, then broke up and went our separate ways. I had made plans to camp with another group of friends that night at Colonial Creek Campground at Diablo Lake.
I had spent plenty of time in that area and was very comfortable there. After a day of riding with one group of friends I was excited to meet up with my other group of friends. We had a great time hanging out. Eventually we went to our own tents and went to sleep. I guess I laid down around 12:15am. It took me a bit to get comfortable and doze off. I think I fell asleep around 1am. Around 1:45am I heard a call, much like the Ohio sound from across the lake. I estimated it was four or five miles away, but the sound filled the entire valley and woke me up. I smiled, chuckled, and told myself that it was Bigfoot.
This call went on for about five to ten minutes, when all of a sudden there was a return call on my side of the lake. I felt like the return call originated about three miles uphill, coming from Pinnacle Peak or Colonial Peak. I felt a sense of surprise, and was taken back by the volume and duration of the return call. This call started out low and soft then crescendo to very loud and bellowing. The sound resonated through me in a way that it instantly woke me up and I became alert. Before I could fully comprehend the return call there was another call from across the lake. This call had a shorter duration, my instincts told me that the call from across the lake was a female and the call on my side of the lake was a male. This went on for about 20 minutes, back and forth. I was in disbelief. I thought of every animal sound I knew and there was nothing like it.
The duration and volume was beyond any wildlife’s capabilities, not to mention any human’s ability. It was fascinating to listen to and was an experience all on its own. Then things got terrifying. What happened next still causes me anxiety just thinking about it. What I will call the male, calling from my side of the lake started coming down the hill. It would stop to call back to the female on the far side of the lake. Each time it called the intensity of the volume became increasingly more intense. I typically carry protection when out in the woods. Mostly for a noise maker, my theory is that the biggest barks wins most of the time. I’ve had to scare off cougars using this method in the past. Regardless, I white knuckle gripped that 44 magnum and was convinced it was not enough firepower to stop whatever was coming down the mountain, much less a bigger bark. I laid there in my flimsy tent, tucked into my mummy bag, grasping my 44 as I cowered with each return call getting closer.
At some point I started hearing footsteps. With each step the ground shook with a vibration that resonated through the ground. I could feel each step getting closer. What was hard to comprehend was the gait between steps. In my mind I envisioned this thing as “jogging”, not walking. I estimated the distance between each step to be 9 to 12 feet. This thing was now in the campground and still returning calls. The terror I felt was indescribably. I was literally frozen with fear. I didn’t dare make a sound, I couldn’t if I wanted to. My body went into an involuntary flight mode. I could not function my body, meaning I could not get out of my sleeping bag if my life depended on it.
I was frozen in fear. My heart was racing, I was uncertain what was going to happen next. Not knowing was the worst part. And wouldn’t you believe it, this creature ran right through my campsite, only feet from my tent. It let out a call that sent me into a state of shock. The volume, the duration, the resonating force of sound, I was defeated and terrified. As quick as it came into my campsite it left, and without hesitation it jumped into the lake.
Which in my mind sounded like an elk being dropped from 20 feet into the water, there was a huge splash. If you have ever been to Diablo Lake you know it’s glacier fed. That water is extremely cold. This didn’t even faze it, much like a dog chasing a ball in to a cold lake, it didn’t hesitate. This behavior suggested to me that this was some type of animal or “primitive”. Not many humans would jump in that water at night, and if they did you would hear them screaming in shock, it’s freakin’ cold!
The moment it jumped into the lake and started its way across the lake I started to feel some relief. However, I lived in terror for years. I believe I suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome.
After that event I listen to your shows and use them as a type of therapy. I am able to relate to others and their experiences. Knowing that I am not alone gives me a sense of relief. I have told many people about my experience. I often encounter people who are dismissive, but this doesn’t faze me in the least. Once you know, you know. And for anyone who says they want a Bigfoot experience, I would caution them against it. It will change your life and most likely not in a positive way.
It’s been many years now and I have not tent camped since. I have hauled my travel trailer to a State Parks, but I am not comfortable remote/primitive camping anymore. I could not bring enough fire power, nor do I think I am smarter than these things in their environment. I would not have a chance if they decided to harm me. I do go out on day hikes, but I am armed and I’m constantly looking for signs. I have turned around on trails before for no other reason than my gut told me something isn’t right. That being said I love the PNW and will continue to push myself back into the beautiful areas that this State and BC has to offer. However, I’m no longer naïve.”

From the way ppl describe these things I picture them moving with the quickness of a red squirrel but massive.

As soon as he said scooby-doo, I knew exactly what he meant. it’s like when Scooby-Doo would get up on his fingers and toes and you’d hear the piano tinkling as he ran. to picture one of these dudes doing it, YUCK!!!! 🤮
Dana B
For real. Jinkies.
Only cool if its Scooby Doo.

Great show!

Thanks Wes and guests 🙏

In the first story with Drew, I’m so glad he clarified that the creature was definitely on its fingers and toes. Seeing the full bottom of a foot when walking usually means sasquatch.
I’m beginning to wonder if the super speed of dogman and sasquatch could be due to the creatures ability to speed up their time. They are reported to be fast as a cartoon character.
Chuck’s sasquatches may be doing this call & find thing quite often in the campground. If they see harmless humans around, not a problem.

Scooby doo or Fred Flinstone.
Tessa C
I’m imaging the Fred Flintstones sound effect now 😂

Drew got to see what is usually described as a spider crawl, although this one may have been a bit modified. Way back in 2001 or 02 the book, Fifty Years With Bigfoot, written by the late (RIP) great Tennessee researcher, Mary Green. It detailed the experiences ( which were very many ) of Janice Carter (Coy) on her Grandfather’s (Robert Carter Sr.) SE Tennessee property. In one segment Janice detailed this stealth mode spider type crawl they use on their fingers and toes with body low and parallel to the ground and it is easy for them to do this. She did mention it is difficult to explain. Like you We,s she got lambasted terribly, not only for this but the whole book as nonsense. However she described so much of their behavior that today is often witnessed. I listened to Cliff’s and Bobos last podcast and Cliff mentioned her.

Can you imagine how rabbits feel when they hear us coming?
Chad W
This was an outstanding episode. Drew and Chuck had very different encounters, but were both tremendously impacted in a life-long way. And both of them said they never wanted to see one again. That speaks volumes…
Wendell F
Good show thanks Wes.

Damn Drew, that was incredible, I could really get a feel for how big it was the way you described it coming through the camp and the way you explain just how scared you were. Thanks never going camping again thanks.
Jennifer H
Great encounters! Enjoyed listening to both guests. Thank you.

Thanks Wes. Does anyone else’s app not update properly? This show didn’t appear until today- kept opening and closing app yesterday but there were no new episodes. Gotta get my SC fix!

I meant to say Chuck’s encounter at Diablo lake. Anyway, when Drew said the thing cross the road like Scooby Doo . I started thinking about other encounters. It almost has like insect ability, the way it turns its body, the way it moves so fast. Most importantly, the strength, the ability to pull a tree out of the ground a fairly large tree. If you think about how strong an an insect. How strong they are in relation to their bodies. No wonder why they keeping the shit quiet.
Tessa C
The spider crawl / walking on fingers + toes thing is creepy just to imagine, I can’t imagine seeing it!!
I wonder if a large creature hunting gets down on its fingers + toes like that so that it sounds like a smaller animal moving through the bush to its prey, making the prey less prone to spooking + bolting.
Dam, who knows!?
Thank you Wes 💙
Debra W
Excellent show. I listen as well to help fall asleep with my dreaded insomnia. Love it.
Ron S
Looking roughly 600-800lbs and moving by only the motion in its fingers and toes? There’s gotta be something to my theory that they change their structure from wave form to a physical atomic structure with varying mass or weight, that’s my guess. Those digits and little piggies would have to be hitting the ground like jackhammers to get a big body like that moving… Really messes with a person’s head when they not only appear in front of you (which seems impossible) but do things that seem scientifically or physically impossible, that nothing else in nature is capable of, especially at that size.
william Y
Does anybody know what episode it was? It was the old introduction when he says it ran towards me at such a rate I can’t even explain. It turned and stared at me with a look of. I just wanna kill you. Does anybody know what episode that one is?
Dana B
I remember the intro line…the guy was interviewed on an early MonsterQuest episide. He goes on to say the thing could “extract mr from my vehicle and there eould not have been a damn thing I could havd done about it”. Jeff Meldrum was also in the episide on Monster Quest. I dont know which SC episode if he was interviewed.
Sandwich Squatch
Well, I thought it was a very lovely story, and you tell it so well, with such enthusiasm.
Cheryl H
I would be so interested in knowing the skeletal physiology that enables them to both walk upright and also drop down on all fours and move like a gorilla. I suspect it has to do with their long arms and short legs, but there has to be that pelvis that we have that enables us to walk upright, too. how fascinating. there’s also the knee joint, but someone must be studying this in some manner. I know they did gait studies on the movie off the Patterson giml8n film, but there’s more to it than that.
Sam K
There were SO many more questions to ask the first guest, including the baboon-like appearance of the face and the way it was moving. These encounters are incredibly important opportunities to glean information. Huge opportunities were missed here. This happens often, unfortunately.
Dana B
There is s Paranormal Caught on Camera episode with a super creepy spider like thing caught on video ceepily on tip toes…on a south americsn street. Maybe the video evidence similar to what is described here? I would lovd to have the opinon of someone who saw the “spider” and compare to this video. There is a whole lot of crrrpy ass $%&@ in this world. Just makes me turn to the Lord and pray for protections every day!!
Casey J
listening to the first guests account , and having now hear a few other witnesses with a similarly described movement I have a theory. if I remember correctly, all of the “spider crawl” incidents were road crossings. I think they they may be trying to imitate a black bear. If they were to just crawl on all fours like a gorilla or another primate, they would still be incredibly large and obviously distinguishable from a black bear still. if they drop their knees and elbows even lower and use their fingers and toes to walk, I think this is the only way to minimize their size and appearance and used only in desperate situations where they need to cross a road for some particular reason. Just a thought guys, everything has some sort of reason and rationale.
Mike B
The first time I heard about sasquatch walking on its fingers and toes was from the BFRO website. This teenage girl was with her grandfather in Northern Idaho and they saw a squatch come out of an old clear-cut going downhill “like a spider on the tips of its fingers and toes”. It crossed the old logging road and was out of sight.
And Wess, don’t be modest. You’ve heard more than a few accounts of this behavior and I would know, this is the first podcast I’ve ever listened to. Ever! And I started with number 7 and I’ve heard most if not all of your episodes.
Janice M N
I liked the episode but towards the end to say a Native American man comes out of the woods and the first thing you think is”Oh this guy is scoping out our stuff to come back and steal.” 😡😡😡 I knew that is what you white peoples think!! Thanks for proving it. I hate that stereotype! In my tribe we have a different NdN word for Bigfoot. I’m an old lady now, but my family has had encounters with this tribe. My elders have said, Leave them alone. You see one, just get away from their area. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone. Rather than thinking a Native guy is going to steal your “stuff” maybe he’s just warning you that Bigfoot is around and you should be aware of that. They are scary people. Argh, hate the stereotypical Savage Indians, gonna steal and burn our wagons, rape our women, steal our kids. 🤡🫤 Done with my rant!
Deb L
Janice, I’m so sorry that you feel that way about white people. I’m sure you have every right and reason. Please believe that this white person doesn’t share that attitude toward your people. My own ancestors were persecuted and they tried to eradicate our culture, to erase our language and oral history. Not talking ancient times, either.
I’m sorry for your pain and loss. I’m so sorry.
