SC EP:965 Strange Encounter At Fort Hood 2002

Tonight I will be speaking to Matt, Matt writes “I’m originally from the Wasatch front in Northern Utah and grew up with Bigfoot stories, and a few interesting encounters as a kid.

However I served 11 years in the US Army, as a infantryman/ranger. In August 2002 I had a strange encounter during guard duty. It behaved similar to a Bigfoot, however it didn’t. I was an NCO, and was in charge of a 3 man guard detail guarding ammunition for a live fire range. The story is a long one, as it stalked us and encircled us all night. I do not believe it was a Bigfoot, and I have been researching what it could have been for over 20 years.

I had already been to Afghanistan at this time, and this may have been one of the most frightening moments of my life, and I don’t scare easily. However one of your episodes talks about a creature that was nearly cloaked, and I believe that’s what it may have been.”

Spoke to the witness and he said “We were preparing to go to Iraq. We setup a AHA (Ammunition Holding Area). I was relieving this NCO and he said coyotes were circling him all night and he did not sleep all night. I thought it was strange. He went into describing what happen that night that he was at the AHA area. Its a long encounter but it was a strange night. The witness describes the forest going silent, no insects..nothing. We had stuff that was taken from our staging area. I walked into a cold spot. There was foot steps walking straight towards me. One of the infantryman kept saying “oh $h**, oh $h**” what ever it was went into the thicket. I stopped and a rock was thrown at me, a very large rock. I am thinking someone is messing with us. This thing circled us for 2 hours that night. I could not figure out what it was.”

Great advice. Take care of your body kids!
The pills won’t hurt you. Trust me, I’m a nurse…lol. They are actually still good for 3 years after their expiration date. After that, they just lose their strength.

Hey Wes!!! thanks for another great show. I had surgery Tuesday and have been looking forward to this show all week! hope your back continues to get better. a chiropractor will help. ☺️

  3. Linda B

Man, Wes, I am sure very sorry for your injury!!!!!!! I have been to the ER with back pain, seizures in my low back, headed to morphine which really doesn’t help all that much, and I Get It. When we moved to Colorado I could lift no more than a gallon of milk. I loved hearing you tell about your childhood because you like and trust people you share things like that with, and all of us admire you and call you friend, so it’s cool that we get to hear your story. Your adversity motivated all the perseverance and steadfastness in your character today. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you thank you for everything you do. P.s. my SC meme is with Jeff from Mountain Monsters which I watched evenings when my son was in ICU , the show got my mind off of the circumstances. When Jeff returned home to Virginia ? I think it was Virginia, ….his wife passed. Those guys are real and kind and hard workers and it was fun being with them in Estes Park at their Bigfoot conference. Just sayin. Thanks, man. I grew up with a hardworking dad and we had enough but not a lot of extras. He picked out my car for me and I paid for it. I hate to say what it was compared to your Russian-mobile, no offense, but I loved that car. It was a ’62 Chevy, red, chrome, buckets, little wooden steering wheel, it had a 327 in it, and my nickname was Red. It was the 70s. Life was good at 18. Those were the days. Again, thanks Wes.

OMG!!! BORED INFANTRYMEN TURN INTO DAVEY CROCKETT!!! LOL The flashbacks about stuff like that 🤣 😂 !! And it’s true about the conversations that take place: home, girls, paranormal and the craziest, wildest sex we ever had.

  5. Ric M

Great show! I know that area of the AHA at Hood. I was battalion ammo S-4 and spent 5 days out there. I was Sergeant of the Guard and overlooked the NCO’s and soldiers that works come in duty from my battalion. I’m sad that I never experienced anything except the ‘yokes barking and howling at night a few times.

Five weeks ago I fractured my L3 vertebra . That pain was so bad, It felt like my head exploded, too. You know that photo of soldiers watching an atomic bomb explode? I saw those colors. Unfortunately , I understand . It’s slowly better, but taking a long while it seems . I’m an RN and suggest you get that seen, get an MRI . They can probably change your future if you do now . Show tonight is well produced and quite interesting – don’t worry about that, –

  7. Dana H

Love your shows! Sorry about your bad back & there’s nothing wrong with complaining about something that’s painful. I guess, those two “muppets” have good backs today. My son is from the “woke” generation. He also wanted to start working after high school and earn money. He’s now the youngest ground traffic controller at the international airport near us and works really hard. I think more people from the younger generation work harder than you think even though it might not seem like it.

Skeletomuscular injuries really have a way of sticking around for way too long…..
When I was about 14, I was in bed watching TV and my remote fell behind my bed and hit the floor. I jumped outta bed and on my knees bent my head down to look for it…..
Well, I pulled that muscle on the left side of my neck/shoulder/back……
I couldn’t turn my neck to the right for weeks.
Even now, 35 years later, I can sneeze or sleep wrong and be in misery….always only that same muscle. I ran out of old muscle relaxers in the 90’s…..could use some more for that next trigger event. I feel for ya Wes…..

  9. Jeremiah S

Boy! That is a fear I never want to experience! Just listening to Matt’s story gave me a flash back of what it felt like as a kid to be unnaturally afraid of the dark. Fearing the unknown.

  10. Janetta V

Another great show Wes, I don’t know how you keep finding all of these guest with such intense stories, but it is much appreciated. About your back, I feel for you and wish that you had not worked so hard when you were younger. Back pain is one of the worst injuries you can have, you take it easy out there. Thank you Matt.

  11. Jessica B

Wes , stop in to our place when you’re in town. recovery tech. I had bad shoes and poverty and on and on. core work. get a trainer you find very attractive. McGill 3pvebts. find a trainer who works with bodybuilders and progress to working out,
I had 3 bulging disks. I’m sorry. it’s tough to feel pain so much. I hope this post is ok. get bodywork from someone strong .

  12. Jessica B

    love it! work ethic!

I don’t think we know how to use our bodies. that’s why I’m facinstrv with the reports of how Bigfoot moves! I wonder if we asked an exercise science expert about it or maybe someone with access to tech that analyzes movements , etc, would we come up with some interesting insights .

  13. Tony H

Drywall, playing catcher in baseball, par core, bicycle racing, all good, no back problems. Pulling a 100 foot garden hose across my yard. BAM, 3 ruptured discs.

    I feel you

  14. Nicholas S

So I got a story off topic for you just like your carpet story. I laid carpet and long story short I was finally getting good at it. I could do a whole house by myself. anyway to keep this short. I was on the last room in this cookie cutter house. My boss was in the house across the street. And I’m exhausted it’s like the third or fourth house that day. And we get paid by the job. I’m trimming this carpet and I’ve already kicked it and I’m exhausted out of water out of food and I’m spent… been at it for probably 12 or 14 hours. While I’m trimming in this carpet from my left to my right hand I toss the razor blade and it’s something that I’ve done hundreds of times but this time the blade stuck into my hand just below my thumb. I’m they’re on my knees looking at my hand with this razor blade handle sticking out of my hand and I don’t see the razor blade. It’s all the way in my hand and I hear a voice don’t pull it out. It’s my boss… he doesn’t want me to get blood on the carpet. Lol I still have the scare 20yrs later.

  15. Lorlee E

Thank you, Wes for the episode and I hope and pray that you will fully recover from your back injury. Back trouble is so painful and can be hard to remedy.

  16. John L

Wes, I have three herniated discs. I can completely empathize. It’s no joke, back issues. Lidocaine patches are the best thing I’ve found. And TENS units.

  17. Audrey J

Wes, I hope your back feels better soon, it sounds unbelievably painful! I loved the story about your first car though, do you have any pictures of it you could post? It must have looked pretty unique if you got out of a ticket because of its unusual characteristics. Your story reminded me of all the beaters I drove in my teens and early twenties. One of my first cars was an old, used VW Rabbit stick shift with a convertible top that operated manually. I live in Utah, and was too young to realize that a convertible is completely impractical in this climate. The car was so old that the convertible top could no longer maintain a water proof seal and in the winter (which is about 8 months of the year in Salt Lake) a couple of inches of standing water would accumulate on the floor. At first, we tried soaking it up with towels but it accumulated faster than we could eliminate it. Eventually, we realized we were fighting a futile battle and just gave up. The challenge was that when you’d accelerate, all the water would go sloshing to the back – which was fine (as long as you had no backseat passengers). But when you’d stop it would all come rushing to the front and drench your feet. Whenever I had to stop, I’d just barely keep my toes on the brake peddle so my feet wouldn’t get wet, and whoever was riding shotgun would have to lift up their feet until the light changed. Mostly I’d wear rain boots, but if that wasn’t possible for whatever reason, fear of getting cold, wet feet caused me to avoid decelerating at all costs. This led to running a lot of “orange” lights and plenty of questionable driving maneuvers. We also assumed it was growing some type of toxic mold on the carpet under all that standing water so we called it the “mystery floor.” Ah, being young and poor, good times!

  18. Ron S

Thank you for your service, bravery and experience Matt, I definitely believe this encounter.

I had an instance once where it was nighttime and I was leaving my two story apartment to go to a friends house when I had heard what sounded like giant wings flapping on the roof as I exited the building. It wasn’t very windy but I brushed it off to a large tarp on the roof flapping. It felt really creepy out right away.

I got in my truck and drove to my friends house thinking that I needed new headlights as it was very hard to see the road in how unusually dark it it was and my headlights appeared to work only as well as basic running lights.

I got to my friends house and parked by his garage and it was still eerily dark. I carefully made my way down his sidewalk and made to his door. I knocked and then let myself in and walked into his house and told him how dark it was outside and how I struggled to stay on the sidewalk to find his door.

Then I remembered I had forgotten my chew in the truck and told him I’d be right back. When I stepped on the top step outside his house and closed the door behind me I literally couldn’t see my hand in front of my face or even the two steps down to the sidewalk and had to move very slowly feeling my way to the sidewalk with my feet. And then feel in front of me where the sidewalk or the lawn was. I was moving about one stride length every few seconds.

As I made my way up the sidewalk from my buddies house to my truck it was so dark but yet in the middle of town where there was usually visible street light, it didn’t make sense. It was obviously strange like the light was being drained from the surrounding area but it was also a clear sky and I could still see all the stars.

Through the barely visible specs of light coming from a street light behind the bare branches of a tree nearby I made out the silhouettes of two shadow figures taller than myself walking/gliding slowly in front of me just a few feet away and it startled me very badly, even worse when the second one passed by just a moment later.

I panicked but even so I quickly remembered the remote for the truck in my pocket and started hitting the unlock button rapidly for the trucks lights to keep flashing on to get enough light to see where I was going.

I got my chew and made it back inside his house hitting the button the whole way. I told my buddy what had just happened and he proceeded to tell me he totally believed me and he could even guess exactly where my encounter had taken place because the week or so prior to that night his wife had her coat tugged on hard in the exact same spot and it scared her, also during the daytime their young son had also seen an old woman outside by the bushes in that area while he was looking out the window.

The boy was laughing at what he said was an old woman who was making funny faces at at him… my buddy looked over his sons shoulder shortly after he heard him laughing and pointing and couldn’t see what his boy was looking at, even when he pointed and said “she’s right there, don’t you see her?”.

My friend chalked these things up to claims that Native Americans were buried long ago in that general area and there were other houses nearby that had strange happenings going on. I’m not sure if the activity and the burial claims are directly related to or not my own experiences as my night that evening started being strange all the way across town… but it might be.

I just wanted to add this story in there because it coincides with this episode, about the factor of the strange darkness and also poltergeist activity occurring in an area.

If I had that particular experience of mine to do over again I sure would like to have had the spiritual beliefs I do know because I think it either wouldn’t have happened to begin with or I could’ve gotten it to go away with prayer.

This is only one instance I’ve had that eventually led me to where I am now and having a lot more faith in God. So all I can say is that things often happen for a reason and I’m in a much better place now because of them, even though I had quite a confusing ride with a lot more fear to finally get to a place of little fear.

We all have the ability to not be lost in the darkness. 🌞🙏🏼
Sometimes it takes darkness to help you to find the light.

wes, don’t worry about being down in your back. I’m 37 and just had my right hip replaced. all because of hard living as a young man just like you. i was poor as dirt growing up also, we just gotta do what we do to make our situation better.. i love the show have listened to every episode and alot of them multiple times.. I think we had them on our property in wv my sister even got hit with a rock coming out of the woods.

  20. Anton L

Wes, contact me about getting your back fixed. I went through the same thing. I had surgery and I can recommend a phenomenal surgeon whom saved my quality of life

  21. Kimberly M

    Wes,
I always hear you talk about the book of Enoch. Did you know it was NOT written by Enoch and contradicts he Bible in some texts? Christians should probably stick to the God inspired Bible as you may be unwittingly misled. Just A little FYI. Have a good day

  22. Delano D

I was at Hood at the same time and had the misfortune of being stationed there twice. He’s absolutely right….everyone hates it there. North Ft Hood is a no man’s land and it’s completely understandable how unknown crap is up there.

  23. m99

I too enjoyed hearing your story Wes. It was uplifting, but sad to hear how you hurt your back. Thanks for taking the time. And yes, we’re glad your feeling better. Be well_m

  24. Robert P

this is not a jab at at Wes or the show, and I understand it’s for entertainment purposes but stolen valor is a thing and this man is straight being!!!

  25. Eric K

Back injuries suck! lifting too much weight can and will haunt you for years if not the rest of our lives. When we are young we think we are super man but we pay for all the mean things we do to our bodies !

  26. Justin J

I finished reading every page of the The Genesis 6 Conspiracy by Gary Wayne because of you. Overall i just wanted to say that i really didn’t like it, it had a lot of mistakes in it. The critical thinking is sub-par: the whole book is built on Apocryphal ancient texts doused with a salad dressing of Holy Scripture from some translation, but Gary adds no evidence to elevate these text, text that are probably fictions inspired from facts. Gary just ends up creating his own mythology from mythology, mythology that is thematically truistic but likely corrupt. The book has about 140 pages of notes in the back that could be a launch pad into the topics for those interested. The topics are certainly fascinating, but that is about all the good i have to say about this book.

  27. Radman

Wes…it’s too bad you feel you have to explain yourself to us because some dodo ASSUMED that knows you. You do great work! Thanks a million 🎰

  28. Sean S

    Holy moly!
    That intro was hilarious!
    I was crying laughing!
    Freaking Muppets.
    Until the back pain part.
I was a tall skinny guys upon Industrial Scaffolding.
    Refinery work.
    Ultra strong Alpha males.
X2 or even x3 in strength and stature.

    Long story short, yep!
I suffer literally, out of no where, a simple mundane task will floor me for weeks!

To the point that I’ll sometimes have to purchase groceries from a gas station because it’s fewer steps.
    No joke!
    And yes, kinda gross.

    I feel your pain, Wes.
    Pun intended.

    Thanks for moving forward.
    People need to be heard.

  29. Kimberly M

    Wes
I know your injury may be too bad for anything but prescription medicine but if I could suggest an over the counter medicine that has worked well for me (and I’m a grandma) is Volteran gel. It’s a topical medicine and has helped me with my bulging disc pain. I think you can buy at any drug store. I get mine at CVS. Hope it might help.

  30. Jeremy H

I really liked the intro story about you Wes! you’re a really good person and deserve all of the good things you have worked so hard for! I hope your back gets to feeling better soon. The encounter story was awesome as well!!

  31. CINDY C

P.S. I had spinal surgery for a tumor in my spinal column. I had to be turned over every two hours. It was absolute torture and terror. I grabbed onto my nurse after surgery and held her in a ferocious grip and told her in no uncertain terms, “DON’T TOUCH ME”. I am a gentle person and wouldn’t hurt a fly. She gently taught me to breathe with the pain – it was a miracle – it helped tremendously. But, that slicing knife pain that hits and you have no control – it’s just unbearable. Praying over you!

  32. Juli W

I can’t recommend more highly getting an inversion table for you Wes. I’ve had disc issues from a car accident. Had to get spinal injections. Once I started using an inversion table, I’ve never had a problem. Check one out. I got mine at Relax The Back.

  33. Juli W

The largest medicine wheel in North America is located on North Ft. Hood. The First Nations peoples still hold ceremony there. It’s a holy place. I don’t know if it’s a chicken or the egg situation, but there is a reason for the strangeness there.

  34. Russell B

We did not evolve from anything
We were created by an Almighty God and one day we will see him face to face and we will give an account of our lives while here on earth.

  35. craig d

Makes me wonder at times if the guests listen to the show. To still believe these are just normal creatures is almost as strange as the beings themselves. To say they are just good at keeping away from us hidden doesn’t explain the vanishing footsteps, the mindspeak, the inability to capture a decent photo or video, batteries draining and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Absolutely no offence to people with these views but it seems like selective thought.
Enjoyed this episode, thank you Wes n guest.

  36. John G

Thank you Wes. Im a new subscriber and your car story was worth the price . Lol Reminds me of my first car in high school A 67 Dart. No power brakes or steering. Brakes grinding and a rope holding the driver’s door closed. A gift from my Dad. He later had it junked saying I didnt know how to take care of appreciate anything . I think he just wanted the money for junking the car. . That summed up my childhood.

  37. Seamus J. C

Wes, I loved your story about how you first messed up your back. I have similar stories! What humility we have, it seems to me, comes from such stories, and it is well that they are told because then we see that we are not alone in our foolishness & pride–in our humanity, dammit!

It’s also a fascinating glimpse into the formative years of a reasonable guy. I have this theory that working with your hands leads to a certain degree of common sense, and groundedness…I do see those in you, in spite of the fact that these are traits that are not so easy to keep ahold of (or so it seems to me) in the weird, woo-woo world of sasquatch stories. So I am glad that you worked with flooring. And I am glad, personally, that I had to give up teaching and become a man who plants flowers and trees, who digs in the dirt and pulls weeds. Humble, humbling stuff.

I also identify with being a good worker and a terrible businessman. Yeah.

Can’t comment on the guest’s story yet, but simply because I fell asleep before I could hear it. I’ve been under the weather, and I was VERY tired. But I will chime in later. These are the bedtime stories for an man who’s not getting any younger….

  38. Jennifer B

Absolutely love your Soviet Union car story!!! Yes, Woke useless people NEED jobs of hard labor!! You are the ABSOLUTE best!!! I support you 100% Been listening to you for many years, and I have a VERY hardcore work ethic also!!!

  39. Carol W

Oh Wes, I’m late to the party here. But SO sorry to hear about your back problems! Your story was so good, the encounter itself was almost an anticlimax. My late husband had back problems, and I know how agonizing it can be. And yes, these little Wokesters have no clue what makes society operate. I hope by now you’re feeling much better. Take it easy, buddy!

  40. Clifford G

Interesting what is said about the Whoppers being left untouched. There’s a video I recently came across of a Russian guy trying to feed a Grizzly a burger from McDonalds. The bear had zero interest

  41. Dana J

No didn’t eat whoppers because…..they are smart enough to smell a trap.
I think the Sasquash in the southern United States lives in a more dangerous environment. There are enough guns to give one to every human in the US 100x over and they are used much more in the south for reasons of fear, trespassing, throwing stones near people, and killing livestock- of suspected of such (haven’t heard any accounts of being caught in the act). Washington, Oregon, and California just don’t approach life the same way and either does Sasquash it seems. My opinion.
