Pair Rescued From Chocolate Tank At Mars Wrigley Plant In Pennsylvania

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Two people were rescued after they somehow fell into a partially filled chocolate tank while doing maintenance work at a candy factory in Pennsylvania.
The incident at the Mars Wrigley plant in Elizabethtown occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday.
The two people work for an outside contracting firm, officials said, and it’s not clear how they fell into the tank. Emergency responders were able to free the pair by cutting a hole in the bottom of the tank, officials said.
It wasn’t clear if either person was injured, but they were taken to hospitals to be evaluated. Their names and further details on their conditions were not disclosed.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident. An OSHA official declined comment on the matter, citing the ongoing investigation.

right now I’m going through an apprenticeship to be an electrician, and I know those two guys. what happened was something went wrong when they went into the tank for repairs. chocolate has to be constantly mixed to keep the consistency and the mixer for the tank broke, so the chocolate on top became solid because it wasn’t mixing. so they walked out on top of the chocolate on top of the tank to fix the mixer and the chocolate broke through and they fell in.

Not really knowing the situation you’d think they would’ve had some type of safety harness, you always hear about people falling in to silo’s on farms . I was delivering a load of lime to a steel plant and one of the the workers fell off a catwalk of some sort and locked down the mill as they realized he was missing. Hope they’re ok

I know it was probably a serious Life threatening incident, but it’s still hard not to think that it would be cool to swim in chocolate, obviously swallowing loads as you did laps..I’m very glad to hear that they are both ok, being hurt by chocolate would be so wrong.
