A listener writes “My friend Gravy and I were backpacking in WNC somewhere south of Boone but north of Ashville. (Switz?) We have crawled all over these mountains for about 20 or 30 years. 10 to 20 mile backpacking weekends.

Typically easy to moderate but we weren’t afraid of elevations. Anyway it’s fall, we ascend to camp on a ciff face just above treetops with more trees above us We camp in the tree line to escape wind but walk back out to clearing before bed to stargaze and smoke a bowl after supper. I walked to edge of lip looking down and notice a blue light.

I thought, Oh, we are not alone, there’s other campers (headlamp?).. Then as I’m focusing on the headlamp I realized that I could see the area being lit quite well cause there were no leaves on the trees. Basketball sized blue light casually meandering through the pines 10ft off the ground. 2mph maybe. Over there, circle that tree, drift over here, as if directed by wind.

Whole thing lasted 10 minutes and when Gravy suggested we circle down and investigate I chickened out and defensibly said HellNah! Eventually it drifted off aimlessly. I just texted him and he has no recollection of this event, granted it was early 90’s and we’re currently 50yrs old. That’s it. Nothing else but occasional head scratcher. No sounds no print’s no broken branches no eerie feelings of dread. But that light was real. Ball lightening is all I can think.”

A listener writes ” I am from the rural community of Siler, Kentucky. It is located in Whitley County, Kentucky in the South East corner of the state. I have lived with these encounters since the Summer of 2015 after my first encounter with these creatures or “boogers” as they’re referred to in this part of the world. I have tried to tell a handful of other people who are close to me about these experiences but just like nearly everyone else who is cursed to be dragged into this topic, no one really believed me. I now feel compelled to share my experiences to at least get the nightmares off my chest and after listening to your podcast for the past several years, I trust you with this information.

I’ll start with my first experience since it is the most sane (if that is possible with this subject) which occurred around July of 2015. Up until this point in my life I was slightly interested in the existence of Bigfoot but was still very skeptical. I figured as much time as I spent in the woods I would have seen something if it existed. I watched anything on television that featured Bigfoot or other cryptids. On this summer night everything would change and I would no longer have an ounce of skepticism in my body. I had graduated high school the previous May and was living the summer up before I started college at Eastern Kentucky University to pursue a Criminal Justice degree.

I was driving home from my girlfriend’s house and was getting fairly close to home. It was approximately 10:00 P.M. and I was following a green Chevy Silverado up 92 East. We were traveling at around 60 MPH consistently when the road was straight enough. We went into an S curve and accelerated hard out of it into a straight away that climbed a hill. The entire straight away was around 100 yards long before it topped the hill. In the middle of the straight away is another road, Highway 11 which is a 90 degree turn off. This section of both roads is built up on a levee that runs through a creek bottom. I was keeping about a two car distance from the truck in front of me the entire time. When the Chevy had just cleared the turn off to Highway 11, I witnessed a large dark mass come over the guardrail on the left hand side of the road. Immediately out of instinct I let off the accelerator. In one big step the creature placed its left foot on the yellow line. The next thing I see is the sole of its right foot come up in the air before taking another leaping bound to the right hand shoulder of the road. In two steps this thing had cleared a state highway. My Chevy truck, a 2006 Silverado, caught up to the beast and was keeping pace with it. I looked out the passenger window and could make out the creature running beside my truck. It paced my truck for approximately 40 yards and then violently veered right when the guard rail ended halfway up the hill. I still had enough sense about me to look down at my speedometer where I realized I had just now coasted down to 45 MPH.

I was speechless and in shock when I came over the hill. There is an elementary school about a quarter of a mile from the top of the hill. I pulled over into the parking lot and stopped to try and gather myself and attempt to process what had just happened. The creature’s hair was a reddish brown color but the sole of its foot was tan. This could be from the mud in the creek bottom it had run out of if I had to guess. My headlights which were on low beam only illuminated from the top of the buttocks down. I would say the thighs of this sasquatch or whatever in the hell it was were about the same circumference as my waist or maybe chest currently. I’m a 6′ 1″ 250 pound diesel mechanic. I wouldn’t say I’m jacked or anything but I make a living lifting and fighting extremely heavy things. When the creature was running beside my truck I could confidently see the upper stomach area at the top of my passenger window and the left arm swaying to and fro as it powered up the hill. It was dark but a fairly moonlit night and my headlight glow bouncing off the guardrail gave me the ability to track its movement until it wheeled right off of the road.

The entire experience probably lasted 5 seconds but burned itself through my eyes and into my mind forever…..”

Jason writes ” “In 1984 or 1985 my mother and her 3rd husband moved us from west TN to east TN on the outside of Cookville. My younger brother and I we lived about 5 miles from where we went to school.. There was absolutely no one to play with other than ourselves.

We lived in a super old farm house, the landlord lived on the same property about 50 yards from us. Other than that there wasn’t any more house around. We would play in the field behind their house there was a stonewall we use to play army around.. We were not allowed to go off into the wood to play the landlord thought we would come upon a moonshine still and yes that was a real big problem then. We was out playing by the stonewall one evening when I saw what I thought was a mountain man /moonshiner watching me. I yelled out we are not going anywhere near the woods leave us alone. The landlord yelled run boys run so we took off running the house. I told the landlord we was not going anywhere near the woods so why did we get in trouble.. he told us that we better watch out for them boogers. That we should just take our butts in the house.

I had no idea what he was talking about, thought he was just making fun of me bc i kept snotty and sinus infection when I was little because my stepdad smoked in the house…. I remember when my mom and step dad came home that night I had told her about the landlord yelling at us telling us to go home, so she said she was going to talk with him to find out what was going on. She came back minutes later and got my stepdad and they both went back to the landlord house. Then about minutes later they returned back to the house. You would have thought we really done something wrong. We were not allowed to go out and play anymore after school, until my mother or stepdad was there to watch us.

I remember thinking that sucked because they wouldn’t arrived at home until 630/7 pm and we would get off the bus 330. After about a week of us not being able to go outside. The weekend finally got there and we had a bonfire in the backyard roasted hotdogs and marshmallows.. when we got done we came in and took our baths while in the bath something hit the side of house power went out and my stepdad went to landlord and ran back to the house I remember him coming back into the house pale as ghost. He told us all to get in the living room while he is shutting the blinds and making sure the doors are locked tight. him and my mom had a long talk and then later on that week my stepdad went to take the trash out. I heard him scream and he was running back in the door that was on a Thursday night and that following Sunday my dad and grand dad showed up and we packed up the car and truck back to west Tennessee we came. Step dad tried playing it off and saying it was a bear.. It was wasn’t until years later I found out what a booger was. Ever since then I have been fascinated with the whole subject.

Finding bigfoot came out and I have watched every episode 5 or 6 times. Fast forward 30 years later, My ex-wife and I bought a pontoon boat and a camper. We started going to Kentucky lake part of the LBL system 2010-2012 we would go to LBL every weekend and camp and go out on the boat. We were out first Saturday and decided to anchor and grill out. We were about 30 yards past the welcome to Kentucky sign in the TN river…. We heard something come running down the hill.. Sounded like 2 elephants being chased down the hill. My son and i were on the bow of the boat trying to look into the woods to see what made that noise. Never saw anything, later that afternoon we were headed back towards Paris landing and I could tell by the look on my dogs face he had to go number 2.

So we found a spot were there was small rocks that i was not worried about hurting the pontoon, so we pulled in there most of the shore line up there is big rocks.. The dogs got off and done their thing and we got off was walking around to make sure there wasn’t any snakes. My son grabbed a large stick and threw it trying to get the dogs to play with him. The stick went into the water so he grabbed another hit it on the tree to break in in half and almost instantly got a return knock. That’s when I realized there was a bigfoot in the area, I turned and looked at my ex-wife told her that was a bigfoot, she looked at me laughed wanted to know if I was high or been drinking of course not that was her opportunity to be a smart butt of course the answer was no. She accused me and my son of having bigfoot on the brain, so we loaded up the dogs and went on our way…. 1 year later we back at buchanan’s camp ground, we left the harbor and if you turned left it you go towards Kentucky and if you turned right you go towards Budweiser beach.

We went towards Budweiser beach got about 2 and half miles down river almost parallel with girlscout camp then she looo we found a cove to anchor out at so we could swim, grill, and do some fishing. The cove we found was awesome, it was like a cove tucked inside of another cove. It had pea gravel beaches and everything else was large rocks. That was our go to spot for the rest of the summer. We made friends and decided to have a boat so we all went to our spot, everyone anchored up grilled out swam and had a good time. Me, my son and ex-wife were on the beach playing with the dogs, we could hear something walking towards us thru the woods, it seemed to have its footsteps pattern with the waves. She turned and asked did i hear that, I said hear what then a few minutes later I heard it. By the time I figured out what was going on both of my dobbermans were on high alert.. I turned looked at my son and told him to get everything on the boat. No sooner than I said that a wave of absolute fear for our lives ran across all 3 of us.

My son starts crying, and my male dobberman starts going nuts barking showing his teeth which is way out of character for this dog, My male turned and looked at my female growled and barked at her she instantly started herding my son towards the boat.. My exwife was helping my son get onto the boat, my male kept looking back and fourth towards my son and ex-wife and then the woods… My son stood up and started screaming daddy what the hell is that which I did not allow my 11year old to cuss but my reply was I have no freaking idea as soon as my ex was on the boat my trusty companion left me to fin for myself, I reached and untied the boat from the tree, shoved us off . I ran to the back of the boat to crank it and the flooded the motor.

I remember trying to get the motor to start and the waves was pushing us back into bank we could hear something breathing real hard me no my wife see anything but my son started hollering daddy there it is a bigfoot. took the paddle and started paddling backwards into open water.. I remember yelling at my ex how deep are we and when she finally told me that we was in 20 ft of water I dropped the anchor again. Turned and looked back and realized we was only about 15 ft from the bank. they were both panicking I made the comment we are in 20ft of water isn’t nothing going to get us.. I had this feeling I was being laughed at, it could get me if it wanted me.. A few moments later the boat motor finally cranked and we rolled up out of there.

My ex was a believer about bigfoot until that day. I asked my son when we got back to the camp a couple later what did he see.. He said he saw a mans face covered in hair peeking around a tree and 10-12 ft into the woods. When I was looking into the woods I was looking my eye level, he was 10 ft behind me on the boat standing in the seat looking into the woods. I guess that’s how he saw over the brush… needless to say we never went back there. to shorting this up to help my wife’s little fingers from typing.”

When we got out to the dirt road we seen what we first thought was a black horse walking down the road coming our direction. We stopped and tried to figure out what we were seeing.. then the thing would walk off the side and a moment later would come back out.

We knew it wasn’t a bear because it was too tall and walking up right. It did this a few times and I began to get nervous about it.. and turned around.. my nephew said we should go check it out… it came out again a bit closer and seemed to be about 8 feet tall… solid black and on two legs… I admit I got scared and drove out of there and back home… never seen anything again.

I hunt my land and heard some strange things but nothing that alarmed me… the only strange thing I have seen is some 4 inch diameter jack pine trees that have been laying over but they were twisted about 4 feet up and pushed over.”

Mount Rainier is a large active stratovolcano in the Cascade Range of the Pacific Northwest in the United States. The mountain is located in Mount Rainier National Park about 59 miles south-southeast of Seattle.

LondonCNN — Artificial intelligence is coming for your job: 41% of employers intend to downsize their workforce as AI automates certain tasks, a World Economic Forum survey showed Wednesday.

Out of hundreds of large companies surveyed around the world, 77% also said they were planning to reskill and upskill their existing workers between 2025-2030 to better work alongside AI, according to findings published in the WEF’s Future of Jobs Report. But, unlike the previous, 2023 edition, this year’s report did not say that most technologies, including AI, were expected to be “a net positive” for job numbers.

“Advances in AI and renewable energy are reshaping the (labor) market — driving an increase in demand for many technology or specialist roles while driving a decline for others, such as graphic designers,” the WEF said in a press release ahead of its annual meeting in Davos later this month.

Writing in the wide-ranging report, Saadia Zahidi, the forum’s managing director, highlighted the role of generative AI in reshaping industries and tasks across all sectors. The technology can create original text, images and other content in response to prompts from users.

Postal service clerks, executive secretaries and payroll clerks are among jobs that employers expect to experience the fastest decline in numbers in coming years, whether due to the spread of AI or other trends.

“The presence of both graphic designers and legal secretaries just outside the top 10 fastest-declining job roles, a first-time prediction not seen in previous editions of the Future of Jobs Report, may illustrate GenAI’s increasing capacity to perform knowledge work,” the report said.

Conversely, AI skills are increasingly in demand. Close to 70% of companies are planning to hire new workers with skills to design AI tools and enhancements, and 62% intend to recruit more people with skills to better work alongside AI, according to the latest survey, conducted last year.

Striking an optimistic note, the report said the primary impact of technologies such as generative AI on jobs might lie in their potential for “augmenting” human skills through “human-machine collaboration,” rather than in outright replacement, “particularly given the continued importance of human-centered skills.”

However, many workers have already been replaced by AI. In recent years, some tech firms, including file storage service Dropbox and language-learning app Duolingo, have cited AI as a reason for making layoffs.
