SC EP:1243 I saw something I’ll never forget

John writes “Hey Wes, I’m writing from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I’ve been a regular listener for several years.

When I was 14, back in July or August of 1994, I took my small scooter down a rough dirt road used by the local power commission to access power lines. About half a kilometer in, the terrain got too difficult to keep going, steep dips and uneven ground, so I shut the bike off to take a break. It was a warm, sunny day around midday.

Out of nowhere, everything went completely silent. The best way I can describe it is like someone put ear protection over me. I had never experienced anything like that before.

As I looked back down the path I had just come from, I saw something I’ll never forget. About 500 feet away was a creature that looked somewhat like an African lion, but… not right. Its eyes were solid black, and it had a full mane around its head. I couldn’t see its hindquarters clearly because they were partially obscured by trees and brush. It was on all fours. The closest comparison I can make is that it resembled what some people describe as a Dogman.”

At that point in my life, I was a paperboy with excellent eyesight, and I saw all kinds of dogs on my route regularly. This was not a dog. I was absolutely terrified. There was something about it that felt wrong, almost like it didn’t belong in this world. I can still remember its mane moving slightly in the breeze and the intense, predatory stare it had locked on me.

After about 10–12 seconds of just staring at each other, I tried revving my little 70cc bike, hoping to scare it off. It didn’t react at all.

After another several seconds, it slowly backed into the woods without ever breaking eye contact. That’s when it hit me, I had to go back the same way I came. There was no other way out. I was genuinely afraid it might circle around or ambush me if I stayed any longer, so I made the decision to go. I sped past the spot as fast as that little bike would take me, pretty much expecting it to come crashing out of the woods at any moment.

About seven years later, I told a friend who lived in that area about what I saw. He told me his father had reported seeing something very similar around that same time.

For context, I later spent 10 years working as a police officer and have seen a number of unusual things during that time, some of which might be worth sharing as well.

One other detail that’s always stuck with me: around that same period in my life, I had also experimented with a Ouija board, and that led to an experience that still bothers me to this day. I’m 45 now, and it’s something I’ve never fully shaken.

If this is something you’d be interested in, I’d be happy to talk more.

Best regards,”

I heard several stories even have seen couple videos where people see just the bottom half of a apparition.Tony Merkel had a guest on once who talked about a gigantic pair of pants crossing the road and running into the woods! I’ve also seen avideo where these kids were filming and they literally caught the bottom half of a gigantic person dressed in what looked like khakis running through the tree-line and let me tell you those kids were shook!!! Very strange for sure!!!

I too live in Capebreaton and have seen some strange things , very brief but strange. I can think of multiple areas that are similar to the place john is talking about in fact I live on a dirt road that has a pole line structure for the old steel plant that is long gone now. I would like to reach out to John if he is interested in talking.

Am I the only one that is bored with the story about balls of lights and everything NOT bigfoot? Is Wes out of bigfoot witnesses? I’ve been a subscriber for yeras but these days its one in four episodes that has anything with bigfoot.

~ Thank You Wes! I really enjoyed you sharing what happened in the police situation. Good thinking too!

Also, Thx John, appreciate you coming on too. In the bible in Samuael, it speaks about lion men of Moab. Yeah. I think there are many types of things starting to appear, besides “ghosts”, IMHO. Anyway, check it out: II Sam 23:20

Thanks, Wes and John for tonight’s show. I absolutely adore listening to you sharing personal stories, Wes. I also enjoy guests like you, John who have worked in a profession like policing which lends itself to stories of all the things we daytime folk who sit on the couch in our old age and have the pleasure to listen to. Just the best … Sasquatch Chronicles!

I disagree about the Honda. They will take a beating. Honda designs them to be super reliable. I have owned 9 Hondas since 1981, 6 built right here in Ohio at there old Marysville, OH MMC plant. Never let me down, just routine maintenance. What a downer that must have been Wes, with the drive around. Do not mess with Ouija boards. I have not heard of anyone swinging at an appariion like your gargoyle. Glad it left and right soon.

I heard what I am convinced was sasquatch a few times last October when I was out foraging for mushrooms and numerous paranormal encounters as a teen in the 90’s. I wonder if Wes would like to hear my stories.

thank you for another banger Wes! You are the best podcaster out there. I hope one day, you will allow me to share the sasquatch sightings and findings I have been having lately. Until then, I hope you have nothing buy good things happen.

Have to give a shout out to my fellow Nova Scotian….. What a great Guest. those encounters were amazing and very well told enjoyed all of them thoroughly. I have an Ouija board story that to this day I still can’t believe happened to me. It was October 31, 1989 and it happened at Acadia university in Wolfville Nova Scotia. We were at a very old student residence and what occurred that night changed me forever and all of us who were involved. It involved talking to a spirit of a young man who died and who used to live in that residence. just like Wes says, and it doesn’t have to only pertain to Sasquatch until something like this happens to you….Life is just roses … but then when it does happen, you realize these things are out there and you realize these spirits are out there and you realize there are things we know nothing about and these things are all around us…..Needless to say that was the last time my fingers ever touched one of those boards
I was lucky enough to be born in Nova Scotia and to your guests point. He is a Cape Bretoner then he is a Nova Scotian then a Canadian. That’s how I feel too. I am a Nova Scotia first then a Canadian. It’s just how things are on the East Coast.
    What a fantastic show

I very much enjoy listening to sasquatch, paranormal-orbs and UFO stories.
    Amazing topics!

John, you have experienced many strange things in your 40 years,
and I wanted to add that 40 is by far not old—not even close!
I truly hope Wes decides to speak with you again so that you
can share more of your stories with him:)
