Strange Night On The Property

A listener writes “Back in 2002, I lived in a small NC town in iredell county. The road i lived on had 7 houses along 2 miles of forests. My closest neighbor was 200 yds through a pine thicket.

My neighbor lived in an old Victorian style house with a huge wrap around porch. My neighbor Jim was a really nice guy in his late 30s that loved to sit on the porch and play his guitar. The month was september and i cant remember the exact date, but Jim had asked me earlier that morning if i wanted to come hang out and plink with our air rifles off the porch. About 7 that evening i walked over to his house with my pellet rifle and a 6 pack of beer. Directly across the road from his porch was his old barn that was about 40 yds off the road. He stored his tractor in the barn, otherwise it was unused. The wood came all the way up the rear of the barn and Jim had cut 4 wheeler trail into the woods beside and behind the old barn. Jim owned 80 acres of woods on that side of the road handed down from his family. We sat on the porch and took turns trying to hit an old cast iron frying pan that we had tied to a tree so it was suspended and would give a loud ring when it was hit. We were shooting pellet rifles about 80 yds trying to hit a 14 inch pan… not very easy lol. Anyway we plinking and giving each other a hard time about our accuracy when the pan dinged when no one took a shot. We looked at each other trying to figure out how it happened, it dinged a few more times. We couldn’t hear another person or rifle, so we waited a few minutes and he went in the house and grabbed a battery powered spotlight, it was starting to get dark.

I took another shot and rang the pan, about 15 seconds later the pan dinged. He fired up the spotlight and swept the area where the pan was hanging and we saw eyeshine approximately 15 yards to the left of the target in the thick part of the woods. The eyes blinked rapidly and I yelled as loud as I could “hey get out of there!” We then heard brush and limbs breaking and a very low long growl. The eyes were gone but the growl lasted impossibly long. It wasnt really loud but my god it was deep and menacing. Jim is an ex marine and dropped the light and went in the house and grabbed his ak 47. I picked up the spotlight and we decided to cross the road and go see what was in the woods. We walked to the barn as quietly as possible, my heart going double time… as we rounded the side of the barn the woods erupted into a storm of breaking trees and it sounded like a train derailing in the woods!

Whatever it was was hauling a** down through the woods very quickly. There was a very funky smell of urine and maybe fresh dirt all around.

We got to the frying pan and found many little smooth round rocks from the creek (1/4 mile down in the woods) laying under our makeshift target. I guess sasquatch wanted to practice too. That was the 1st experience, over the years every now and then I would hear a howl that would raise the hair up on the back of my neck.

Love the show!”

Lord, did I miss the announcement of creepy encounters week? Chanting and now this…..
I can just see sitting out there in near darkness and that pan ringing and dinging. Kind of makes my hair stand on ends lol.

What a terrific encounter. Sit back on that porch boys and let me show you how it’s done. Across America there are ball fields out by the woods. Now the sand lots are not used like when I was young, heck I spent my summers and after school hours in the warm months playing baseball. It is rare to see kids on them these days. I know that the Sasquatch have watched us Americans play from a safe position in the woods. They surely must jones at times to go out on the fields with us and participate, but something holds them back.

it’s too bad they chased the BF away. It was participating in their fun and not throwing rocks at them or acting aggressive. heck my next move would have been to modify an inexpensive CO2 BB gun so the BF could get that big finger on the trigger and the next day put it out loaded and ready to go where they saw him and then do more target practice and see if BF could hit the frying pan with the BB gun…..

Renee that was exactly what I was thinking. I wonder what kind of reaction they would have gotten if the clapped every time the pan dinged and it wasn’t them? We have all heard they have lousy tempers but I have also seen a good amount of evidence that they have a sense of humor too. All my speculation is with the the advantage of hind sight and I would have probably reacted the same way the two men in the encounter acted, especially if they were not thinking “bigfoot” when looking for an explanation for what was occurring.

Pretty cool encounter to say the least… Seems like the BF knew the air rifles were harmless to it… BUT when the AK came out , well that’s a little different story… have had MANY experiences with these guys throwing things CLOSE to us also… MOSTLY small stuff… BUT a few times big things also… lts no surprise THEY can hit the frypan… And its NO Surprise when the big objects missed us by 40 FT… Stay cool and when footing… BUT do HAVE big CAL WOOPENS , AT YOUR HANDS REACH…
