Hi ya’ Miss m! ð
I have to be honest, I have not watched GoT. Trying to be… pure in mind would be tough given some of the overt se*ual scenes in the first couple of seasons per reviews I read, that is. (I did read the books and that was bad enough.)
I just like the band T00L and I thought the editor of that video did a pretty good job with it.
God bless you, dear Miss m. ð

Kevin LAugust 17, 2023 at 8:10 am #226543Sheila LParticipantDear Miss Addie,
Sorry for the delay. I thought the thread was fairly done (my bad).
First question first. CJ was right. Demons can do what they do because God allows them to. It’s called free will. (Angels & demons are persons just like us – created by God – yet they are pure spirit… we are not. We have bodies.) Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people? (Like Job, for instance.) So that He can bring a greater good out of it. (Please understand I am not making light of Kara’s awful situation(s)). May God bless her.
A sacrament is an outward sign instituted by Christ designed to give grace (Grace is partaking in God’s Divinity. See 2 Peter 1:4)
The seven sacraments are:
Baptism, Confirmation, The Holy Eucharist, Holy Orders, Holy Matrimony, Annointing of the Sick and Confession (aka known as Penance or Reconciliation).
Again, all of those were instituted by Christ the Lord and all are in the Bible (Except Holy Matrimony which is, for the most part, implied.)
Any other questions just ask, Miss Addie. So sorry for being late to answer your questions.
God bless you,
Kevin LJuly 19, 2023 at 4:57 pm #225602Sheila LParticipantCJ’s right, Seamus.
For whatever reason, when my wife signed me up here at SC, it is listed as her name whenever I post!? Even though we did it with my name when logging in. ð
Weird, but that’s the way of “modern” technology, yes?
Regarding demonic possession (with persons) and demonic infestation (with homes or buildings) – I believe the distinction is important because whenever there is a possession a person cannot control what the demons do or say. So, the culpability of the person is not there at all. They do not have control of their bodies when the demons manifest themselves. (Yet, there have been situations where demons were unwittingly invited into individuals. I.E., not realizing the implications.)
Regarding infestations, as was the case in Miss Kara’s home, what she experienced is called harassment or oppression. Many-many Saints have experienced this throughout the centuries. Some, as in the case of St. Padre Pio, get severely beaten. (There are actual photos of Padre Pio with black eyes he received from demons – Padre Pio also had the stigmata or the wounds of Christ. He bled every day. Quite a bit, actually.)
I believe Miss Kara knew her new home was going to be… problematic because of her Baptism and/or her guardian angel was alerting her. (Just my opinion.) Boy Miss Kara, I was on the edge of my seat listening to you tell your experiences. I am so sorry you had to go through them. ð
So, why didn’t the priest’s blessing drive the demon(s) away? Well, as I said above, blessings and exorcisms are not infallible. Sometimes individuals/homes may have to be prayed over again. Why? Only God knows. Sometimes, for reasons only known by Him, He allows bad things happen to good people. (We see examples of this all throughout Sacred Scripture.)
Okay, that’s enough. Sorry for the length, guys.
Here is an excellent article on this topic:

Try Googling “Catholic Answers” – that will get you to catholic.com.
Fr. Lampert’s “story” (for lack of a better word) on how he got into his ministry was recounted on an episode of the old SYFY channel show called “Paranormal Witness”. Very good.
Here it is: https://www.syfy.com/paranormal-witness/photos/the-exorcist-season-3-episode-19#29404
Peace in Christ to you and yours!
KevinJuly 18, 2023 at 1:34 pm #225573Sheila LParticipantThanks, CJ. ð Very kind of you.
I am a catechist/apologist for the Catholic Faith. I am somewhat of a “revert” to the Faith some 25 years ago. I knew very little about Catholicism and kept having what some call “God incidences” to… oh, get “back to church” if-you-will.
I started to study the Faith in earnest and, as you seem to have seen, found that Catholics don’t know their Faith very well. (Which, in a lot of ways, is why I like to teach it.) I have gone all over our diocese giving catechetical lessons on all kinds of topics on the Faith. (Including, one of my favorites, The Reality of the Demonic.) That topic will give some the willies. LOL!
If you are going to delve into this topic I would recommend watching some videos by Fr. Vincent Lampert, exorcist from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis (he’s on Youtube). How he got into that ministry is quite something. I went to hear him give a talk on this topic about twenty years ago. Chilling, yes… but fascinating, too.
Regarding your quote from above: that is a correct statement. There was a heresy (and I am having trouble finding the name of it, at present… grrr!) that taught one must receive the sacraments from a priest who is not in mortal sin to merit the graces proper to that sacrament. IOW, it taught that you would not receive said graces if, say, for instance, that particular priest had a “concubine”. (Yes, we have our warts.)
Anyway (sorry for the length): I recommend http://www.catholic.com on this. They have excellent tracts, articles and everything else!
God bless you, good sir. Kev
July 18, 2023 at 11:26 am #225567Sheila LParticipantNo, CJ. I guess I better clarify. (Sorry about that.)
There can be demonic activity in homes and other buildings. But homes/buildings cannot be possessed. (Thus, the phrase “haunted houses”.)
A priest can come in and do a blessing of a home/building. (For instance, a Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus – the priest goes room-to-room doing this using holy water and praying certain prayers.)
This “home blessing”, like the rite of exorcism, is not infallible and does not guarantee immediate expelling of demons. Unfortunately, there are times where said blessings may have to be done again because, as I previously said above, such blessings are not infallible and do not carry the same efficacious graces the sacraments do.
Hope that helps and God bless!

July 18, 2023 at 8:20 am #225565Sheila LParticipantMister Seamus,
I am posting this Catholic Catechist who loves teaching the Faith. It is my understanding that only people can be possessed. Thus, homes and such require no exorcism (even if demonic activity is apparent). Additionally, exorcisms are not infallible. It is a sacramental.
Sometimes those who are possessed may have to go through the rite of exorcism more than a few times to rid the demon(s) from them. So it goes to say, homes/buildings may need more than a few blessings to rid demonic activity.
God bless!
