Bob Gymlan: Story of Spring Heeled Jack and The Hammersmith Ghost

Bob writes “This video is about two, what I think is fair to call, “Humanoid Cryptids.” They are the legendary Spring Heeled Jack, and the lesser known Hammersmith Ghost. The accounts in this video took place between 1803 and 1879.

Both of these entities offer folkloric and cultural implications, and have rooted themselves in our understanding of the Victorian Era. However, some aspects of their description seem to be inconsistent with their time. Which is interesting.

These legendary entities may be just that: Legends. However, a technical analysis of the descriptions paints a picture that may indicate something else. People were reporting concepts that did not exist, yet.

Anyway, as often happens, this video just kind of kept going, and may ramble a bit at times. I hope you enjoy it regardless.”

Hi Bob! Loved that you (or anyone really), brought up, is covering the case of Spring-heeled Jack. Fascinating mystery that does not get enough attention. Well covered, well researched, well produced, and well spoken. A few highlights/ facts: a.) SHJ attacked, according to reports, exclusively women, either alone or in pairs, regardless of their socio-economic station. b.) The attack, if progressed, included tearing off their clothing with large metal claws for hands. Rather than just killing them instantly, e.g. c.) Jack the Ripper was human perpetrator who targeted women specifically, of a specific economic and social class, and even specific profession, posing as a client or *john*. d.) Werewolves’, or so-called werewolves‘, victims were of both genders, and werewolves seemed more interested in killing instantly rather than taking off clothes first. e.) One of the consistent, yet odd, witness descriptions include that of a ‘bear’ disguise (along with glowing red eyes and other features) ..sound familiar? The bear witness description completely elevates this mystery to the next level for me. Not only were ‘bear’ sightings in suburban London rare, but this description is not consistent, and a far cry from, the overall metallic, sci-fi, futuristic, and super-human appearance that witnesses also describe. Thank you again for this excellent report on this mystery, and I’d love to participate in any future discussions, or hear any follow-ups!

Sorry, forgot to add….There are elements of the Spring Heeled Jack history that, for some reason, remind me a little of the Cisco Grove incident in California in the ‘60’s. The emitting a blue-flame-like something, or gas, for example. A few other things as well..
