A mix of a monkey and human

A listener writes “I would like to start by saying before this encounter, I had no interest or concern with what Sasquatch was. All my life I had heard they were mostly from the Pacific Northwest so for someone who is uneducated on the subject from Louisiana to encounter one it was definitely a life changing situation.

When I graduated high school in 2011, I was fortunate enough to land a job as a log truck driver. Me being young and gung ho I would wake up at midnight go get my load from the job site and head to the mill. One October morning my alarm goes off but I’m suffering from the flu so I opt to sleep an extra hour. I wake up at 1am go get into my truck and head to the woods to grab my load. Now unlike some companies in there area our operation was mostly a drop and hook system where every driver had a load waiting all they had to do was drop their empty pick up their load strap it down and head out. It’s probably good to mention also my dad sets these loaded trailers out and one of my cousins is another truck driver for the same company. My dad would set mine and my cousins loads out of the way of everyone else’s generally close to each other so we didn’t have to fight the other drivers for the loads.

So I make it to the woods about 10 minutes til 2am. Drop my empty trailer and now I feel like something is off but I can’t pin point what it is. It’s eerily quiet except for the steady gusts of wind. I blow it off as me being sick and just feeling out of place enough as it is. I get in my truck run up the road back under my loaded trailer and jump out. When I exit the cab of my truck I smell this real rotted egg, wet dog mix. Again I blow it off, it had rained for two days prior to this day and I thought maybe it was just the mix of wet wood and cut wood creating a pungent smell. I grab my load straps run to the passenger side of the truck and throw them over. As I throw the third strap at the midway of my trailer I heard my truck door close. Again blow it off as wind shutting the door. I make it to my last strap and see a quick motion out of the corner of my eye I look toward the front of the truck the first strap I had was popping rapidly and extremely hard and yet again I blow it off as either too much slack in the wind or my cousin has snuck up and is playing a joke on me. (The smell is now 10x as strong) I go to the back of the load and place my flags and reflective flashing red light into the The tips of the logs. And walk toward the driver side to begin tightening the straps I’ve thrown and raise my landing gear. As I round the end of the trailer I see this thing standing a full trailers length from me. Now I know this isn’t my cousin, my cousin is only about 5ft 10 this thing could flat footed look through the window on my truck door. I couldn’t make out the appearance well.

Again it’s 2am and only lights I have are a weak wal mart head lamp and the orange and red lights off my truck and trailer. But I could definitely make out an elongated pointed head and the whole left side of its body was covered in what looked like matted wiry hair and the one arm and hand I can make out has sausage like fingers, a forearm that’s larger in proportion that it’s bicep and it’s all hairy there is a difference in fur and hair and this was definitely hair. It reminded me of the beginning stages of dreadlocked hair that’s been unwashed and starts to kink up. I’m standing here frozen in fear trying not to breath, scream and piss myself at the same time. You just don’t expect these things during the daylight much less at 2am on a high traffic road standing right next to your vehicle between you and the cab of your vehicle which is the only area of safety you have. I can feel it’s sizing me up it’s head is steadily moving up and down but at the same time I feel it’s more curious than it is aggressive. I myself am in a pure stance of fear and not curiousity or aggression cause I know for a fact, if this thing charges me there is no fighting back there is only trying to react fast enough to run around my truck and try to make it to the cab but then again like I said this thing is super tall and strong looking what’s to say he can’t just bust the window and drag me out.

After standing there for what felt like eternity, but was more like 30 seconds maybe, staring at this thing it starts taking steps backwards it’s stride in reverse was amazing it looked like it was covering 4-5 feet with just one step. When it made it to about my truck door lights hit it and it’s face glows. If I could describe the features it would be a mix of a monkey and human but with greater proportions and wirier matter hair. When the lights hit it it breaks and runs for the tree line 20-25ft away making this weird almost huffing grunt noise. I now realize the lights are coming from my cousins truck and the fear and panic kind of diminished but was still there. My cousin stops walks around my truck sees me shaking and asks what’s wrong. I explain what happened and his only reply was “you need to lay off the cough syrup” now I’m terrified knowing this thing has to still be within 100yrds of me but the only other person with me who by all means should have seen it running away from my truck doesn’t believe and thinks I’m crazy. This encounter absolutely terrified me even though I feel the Sasquatch was more curious as to what has happening than he was trying to run me off. I haven’t gone back into the woods at night since and now my family mocks me because I “thought I saw a Bigfoot”. But I don’t think, I KNOW I saw a Sasquatch.”

I’m beginning to think that the scariest encounters are the ones that truck drivers have. The monster sees the truck parked and idling and knows that a human is working somewhere nearby, and can be caught off-guard.

Scary indeed! I wonder what would’ve happened if his cousin hadn’t arrived when he did? I’d like to hear his description of the creature, Wes, if you can get him on the show.

I’m surprised and a bit upset that a logging family from Louisiana mocks him as they are known to be pretty common there. I personally can’t blame him for not going back at night and would love to hear more from him.

“…now I feel like something is off but I can’t pin point what it is.” Love your description. I can’t wait to hear you talk to Wes. I have a few relatives still living in Louisiana. I wondered what part of the state did this happen?

Having lived in southeast Texas big thicket area those creatures can come up behind you and breath down your neck before you know it. Lots of encounters in that part of the country.
