Upcoming Show: The little people

I am very much aware of what the natives call the “little people.” I have researched it but I have never spoken with an eyewitness who actually saw one.

A listener writes “Now, I’ve searched the Internet high and low over the years and haven’t found much of anything that seems credible regarding juvenile, Pygmy or dwarf humanoid sasquatch type creatures. I told my family and a few close friends about what I had seen, and the subsequent hearsay followed. Apparently, other sightings in the area had happened, but it was always a case of a neighbor’s cousin’s friend who had seen one, etc…

I almost hit *something* with my car years ago as a teenager. It was right after dark in the evening, not quite pitch black yet, and I was only about a mile and a half down the one-lane rural road from my parents’ house. Deer, rabbits and the like popping out of the tall grass alongside the narrow gravel road are the norm, so I was already watching for wildlife at the edge. That’s when I saw what I can only describe as a tiny sasquatch.

As I drove down a straightaway, I noticed the tall grass parting to my right and a dark creature emerge into the road. I hit my brakes, slowing down for the raccoon or coyote that inevitably follows, but the sight of this little guy made my jaw drop.It was no more than 3 and a half feet tall, covered in dark hair, and it had an smooth gait like a human. I would have initially thought it was a escaped chimpanzee or a bonobo if it had not had such similar proportions to a human, with a very round head. It looked very much like a human little person, but with a hairy body, and face. It had a short, squat body and it was difficult to tell if it was young, or fully grown and just small.

I obviously startled it as it was on its way. It froze for a split second, looking at my vehicle then dashed across the road with a burst of energy into the weeds on the opposite side. The whole sighting lasted only a few seconds, but is burned into my memory.

I came to a stop and immediately turned around and went back home, abruptly ending my night out with friends. I was just too shaken up. I am used to seeing fleeting wildlife on a regular basis, sometimes not knowing fully what it is. Was that an opossum or a nutria? Was that a hog or a javelina i the road? That’s no problem. This was was clear as day, and I had never seen something like that before in my life! I am wondering if any of your listeners have ever seen a creature matching a similar description? Have you come across any accounts of a “mini-squatch”? I’m not sure if this would even be in the same category as a sasquatch or big(little?)foot sighting, but I’ve never come across anything similar.”

The detail “a very round head” suggests homo floresiensis, which, apparently, had no chin. I’m not sure, however, if the skeletal remains of homo floresiensis were able to show whether it was hairy or not.

I have read more than one report of a small humanoid covered with hair, however they are described somewhat differently from juvenile sasquatch. First of all, they don’t appear to be juveniles, although being hairy all over you never know. The impression is of a mature animal, I think. But they are described as having a sligher build, sometimes quite slight, and the rounded head–maybe. My memory about them is a little fuzzy, ha ha ha. I also believe they have a visible neck, unlike ‘squatchies, and more likely to be found in trees. I believe what I am trying to recall are a couple of BFRO reports from bfro.net ….One was by water, by a lake, I think, and the creature was up in a tree. I wish I could recall the report, or even the state it was in, but I can’t.

Cryptids with a similar description are the agogwe of Africa, and the orang pendek from Sumatra and Southeast Asia.

Definitely not the little peeps the natives talk about, but still something that seems to happen once in a while. Who knows how this is all connected, so many unanswered questions of our world.

When we have the privilege of seeing the unusual in our lives it is forever burned into our memory for the rest of our days on this earth. Sometime back when I was a very small boy, I believe the year was 1959 I would play on the floor of our living rooms east facing windows in the mornings to catch the warmth of the morning sun. My older siblings had gone to school, dad had left for work so that left my mom and myself to ourselves for the day. On this particular morning I was playing with my toy trucks in the sunlight when I probably detected a shadow cross the window and I turned in time to see coming at the almost ground level front window a creature no bigger than myself. I was only 4 at the time. It was on all fours and all black covered in short hair. It’s skin was black. It came up to the window I was playing next to then stood up on its feet and put both hands onto the window and smiled at me like it wanted to be my friend. I put my hands on the window opposite it’s hands and we were about the same size. It would look at me then at the corner of the house then back at me a few times as if something was waiting for it just out of my field of view. I wanted for my mom to see this also so I ran to the kitchen where she was cleaning after breakfast for her to come see the monkey boy. I do remember her laughing while we came back into the room and suddenly stopped. The creature was gone from the window. I was upset it was gone but she didn’t let me play by the window for awhile. This was north of St. Louis near the Missouri river. I remember telling my grandmother about the monkey boy and she just laughed and said I had seem a young booger. So yes, I believe this person saw a young one but I also think an adult sasquatch was somewhere nearby most likely.

There are many reports of what the Australian Indigenous people called the “little fellas”. These are smaller typically 4 foot tall individuals who travel and are seen in groups. Two stories come to mind. One happened on the mid north coast of New South Wales around Coffs Harbour. The story tells back in the early 1900’s one of these little fellas was captured by police and held in a goal house. The rest of the group raided the village and police station and rescued their companion. Another story of them rolling around on the roof of a hunters cabin while the hunter/fisherman was trying to sleep inside. These beings are different from the “big Fellas” as they are more inclined to tease and play with humans. The aboriginal people do not trust them as they can be seen as a devil also.
