Upcoming Show: It didn’t look like a man….the dimensions were wrong

A listener writes “I’m 41 years old and live in southern Kentucky on the edge of Lake (remove). First let me say that I love the show. I wanted to share some things with you about some incidents that have occurred over the past years. First let me start with a incident that occurred in early 2008. Our local lake, Lake (remove) had to be substantially lowered due to work that had to be done to the impounding dam. The lake was lowered approximately 40 feet. This completely drained a lot of the backwater areas which made for some good exploration areas along the newly exposed banks. My wife and I along with another couple decided to go out on the lake one Sunday afternoon in late spring 2008 and check out our “new” lake and also hunt for driftwood. We wanted to go to a popular houseboat partying area known as 76 falls. With the lake dried up in the cove where it was located, we thought we may look for anything the houseboaters may have dropped off the side at one time or another. As you approach this particular cove their is a spot where you have to navigate around a power line substation or something that has always floated in the middle of this creek that leads to the 76 falls cove. There are power line clear cuts that go up the banks on either side of the lake adjacent to this thing that floats in the middle of the creek. With the lake being down so low the creek was substantially narrower than normal and only allowed for about 4 foot of clearance between this thing and the bank on either side of it. We slowed down to a creep as we went to the right side of it. I didn’t know what exactly was under the water and definitely didn’t want to hit a high voltage line with the outboard. As we were creeping past it for some reason or another, everyone on the boat glanced up the powerline clearcut up the hill to our right. About a 100 yards up the hill in the clearcut was this big black “thing”. It was something standing on two legs squared off facing down towards us. At first I thought it was a turkey hunter in a gille suit , knowing that season was in. But the harder I looked the more it didn’t look like a man. The dimensions were wrong. The legs were very long and the shoulders were extremely broad. We were too far away to make out any distinguishing characteristics about the face, hands, etc.. The one thing that caught my eye the most was the “v” of light you could see between the arms and chest and between its legs. It didn’t move or anything. It almost seems as though when we came into it’s view it wanted to just check us out. The view of it lasted about 10 seconds I would estimate. The boat was still moving forward and we eventually got out of alignment with the clearcut. After we lost sight of it we all kinda just looked at each other with a “what was that” look on our face. The hollow on the left of the clear cut is where 76 falls is located. We beached the boat and hopped off to explore the area around the falls. Now that I look back on it, it seems very strange that we really didn’t talk about what we had just saw. Everyone just kinda got quiet about it. We looked around for 20-30 minutes and didn’t find anything interesting so we decided to head out. We loaded up and took off. This time I veered to the left of the electrical thing in the water, which was the same side we come in on. I wanted a clear view of the clearcut when it came into view. As we approached nobody was saying anything but everybody seemed to leaning forward and looking up to their left before we got back into alignment. Its comical now when I think back on how we must of all looked. As we came into view, the thing is gone. Everyone kinda slumped back into their seats and let out breath. Guess we were all holding our breath out of nervous excitement, I know I was. A few moments later, the other female on the boat saw a piece of driftwood she liked up on the bank. Of all places, it was just below where the clearcut started at. Well I beached the boat again, and my friend and I jumped off the boat and headed up the bank towards the woodline and the clearcut to get this piece of wood. My friend and I are both veterans and neither of us get shaken very easily, at least we would show it in front of each other or the women. This particular piece of wood was an old stump with some knurly roots coming off of it. From the boat it looked to be about a foot tall and two or three feet wide. When we got to it however it was about 4 feet tall and 10 feet wide. My mind instantly started clicking, if this thing looked that little from the boat, just how big was that thing we saw up in the clear cut? About that time I got goose bumps all over my body and it felt like an electric shock ran down my back. That thought scared the heck out me. I looked at my friend and I’m pretty sure he was having the same reaction I was although he didn’t say anything. We went down the bank at a pretty fast clip, hopped back on the boat and got out of there. My friend and I talked about it a few times afterwards but his job took him to another county and we hardly ever speak anymore. My wife and I talk about it from time to time. She feels they are of an evil/demonic nature. Thats what I get for marrying an evangelists daughter though. Now fast forward to 2015.

We have a family farm on the edge of the (remove) River which would be the tailgaters of Lake (remove). I grew up hunting and exploring the farm and fishing in the river. In 2011 my son was born. I decided to take a hiatus from the hunting for a while so I could spend time with him. I sold both my boats and packed away the hunting gear. I kinda felt guilty being out there without him if that makes any sense. As deer season approached in 2015 my wife urged me to get back out in the woods. She new I was missing it. I told her I would go muzzleloading in mid-october. I didn’t want to invest the time to bow hunt and besides I new it needed to be restrung after sitting so long. I went down a few times and checked a couple of my ladder stands and put out some cameras. Opening morning came and I was so excited I ended up in my stand a full hour and a half before daylight. It was a brisk morning but not cold by any means, just really comfortable. The moon had went down earlier in the night and the sky was clear as it could be. I was sitting in my stand just enjoying the stars and all those early morning noises. My stand was located on the edge of a creek that bisected two green fields. Out of nowhere I heard a loud woooooooooooooooop coming from ridge that was located across the field behind me. I heard the sound five distinct times with the echo. It started with a low pitch and ended on a high note. Each woooop lasting less than two seconds. The whole series lasted no more than 20 seconds. By the second one I was trying to get my phone out of my pocket to try and record them. Between gloves, safety harness and other assorted garb I couldn’t do it in time. Once i did get I switched it to an easier pocket to get to in case it happened again. Nothing happened though. I just heard the five woooops and that was it. It didn’t scare me, no smells, no other “bigfoot terrorist” stuff. I sat there and killed a nice little buck about 30 minutes after first light. Loaded it, retrieved my cameras and left. Everything was completely normal the rest of the morning. Later that same month we took my son to the Cincinnati zoo. The howler monkeys stopped me dead in my tracks. I had listened to all kinds of youtube bigfoot noises after I had heard that and while some were similar, they weren’t exact. The howler monkeys were dead on. Fast forward to April of this year.

Turkey season fired up and my son was getting ready to turn 5 so I thought he was ready to hit the woods. We went opening morning and sat in a blind at the farm. He slept and I played on my phone if that tells how exciting the action was that morning. For the next morning I decided to invite my new son-in-law, Matt. Him and step-daughter had gotten married the previous fall and I had been looking for a chance to spend some one on one time with him. He loves to hunt so off we go. And besides, my son absolutely loves him. He showed up at the house about 4 A.M. and we loaded up and headed out. I have a particular place on the farm I have always parked on the farm when I am hunting. It is along the creek at the base of the ridge where I had heard the whoops the past muzzeloading season. We eased in to the parking spot and got out. I unbuckled my son from his car seat and he started climbing over the console into the front seat. At that exact moment on top of the ridge that we were parked next to, something let out this God-awful scream slash roar. It started deep and guttural, held a medium pitch then tapered off with the pitch getting higher towards the end. This lasted for a full ten seconds at least, then the echo seemed to last just as long. I was looking through the truck at my son, who was frozen still on his all all fours on the console. He was looking at me with huge eyes. Matt was behind him with the same look. My son asked me what that was. I looked at Matt and asked him did he hear that. He gave me a quick “yep”. Then I asked him if he ever had heard anything like that before. “Nope”, he wasn’t very chatty at this moment. Kinda funny now when I look back on it. It had shook him up as bad as me. I then asked him what he thought it was. “Must have been a dang bigfoot because I haven’t ever heard anything like that before.” For a little bit of backstory, he was never told anything about the sighting on the lake or what I had heard the previous fall. My son asked if we were okay. Trying to be a good dad I told him we were fine and we were gonna go hunting. I was scared in that moment that if we loaded up and left it would give him a fear of the outdoors which is the last thing I want. So we went hunting, knocked down a bird, my son tackled it while it was still flopping and that was it. No other noises or anything. Kinda like the incident the previous fall. It probably sounds a little crazy but there is one thing I could compare this roar to that is similar. If you remember the original Predator movie form the eighties. In the scene where Arnold is going to square off one on one with the predator, he lights the torch and lets this primal roar to alert the predator to his location. Sound silly but that is dang close to what we heard. Fast forward to this past November.

We dove into deer hunting pretty heavy this year. I took my son with me bow hunting a lot. He loved siting in the stand and watching the wildlife. Never heard or saw anything. Opening morning of gun season I was in the stand early. Matt couldn’t hunt that morning due to work. A little before daylight the owls cranked up. One started up above me, one replied on another ridge and then one sounded off on that ridge where we had heard the whoop and the roar. Probably nothing but that one sounded like when my son attempts to work my hoot owl call and totally messes it up. It sounded like an owl in a way but just wasn’t right Probably an owl with a head cold right? Later in the week Matt got to go hunting and took my daughter with him. I didn’t go. He called me later on and said they heard that roar thing again. He said it was just after dark and they were getting ready to climb out of the stand and it sounded off. He said it came from the same ridge we heard it from. He said it did it one time and that was it, nothing else. I questioned my daughter about it later on privately and she described it to a t.

I know you hear bigfoot stories all the time and this is my experience in the subject. Did we see a bigfoot on the lake? Yes, without a doubt. Has a bigfoot took up residence around our farm? The best way I can reason it would be that i did take off from hunting over a four year period. During that time, absolutely nobody hunted there. We do not allow it. We only allow the guy that would do our hay to be on the farm. Do I feel like during this hiatus of no intrusion that something could have moved in? Its possible. I can say undoubtedly that i have been on that farm all my life and never anything like what I have in the past year. Its been a pleasure to share this with you. I love your show. You take the topic seriously.  Anyways, God Bless You and have a Merry Christmas!”

This guy is good man and father to take off hunting for four years to spend more time with his son. Spend as much time with the kids as you can because time passes so quickly and you’ll never get it back and you’ll never be sorry you did.

Most likely you have a family of them at your farm. If you are not actively researching them in this area and forcing them to move around they may have become comfortable in this setting, and also maybe be raising a young one or two. I have heard the faked owl call myself and a faked loon call also. You can tell, something is just off. You could contact Charlie Raymond and crew from Kentucky Bigfoot to come down and look – they are good folks. Or you could just enjoy what a great priviledge you have to be a witness on an ongoing basis. They seem no threat as is the case in well over 90 percent of the time. I would keep keen senses as during the night they just may come up to the house to peer in. Hope you keep us updated on any further activity. I consider you one very lucky fellow.

Great story…..pretty cool props to ARNOLD who apparently has come closest to a Squatch roar….but I think it’s well understood that the only thing a Squatch fears is the roar of…….Chuck Norris?
