The Dyatlov Pass incident was an event in which nine Russian hikers died in the northern Ural Mountains between 1 and 2 February 1959, in uncertain circumstances. The experienced trekking group, who were all from the Ural Polytechnical Institute, had established a camp on the slopes of Kholat Syakhl, in an area now named in honour of the group’s leader, Igor Dyatlov. During the night, something caused them to tear their way out of their tents and flee the campsite while inadequately dressed for the heavy snowfall and subzero temperatures.
After the group’s bodies were discovered, an investigation by Soviet authorities determined that six had died from hypothermia while the other three showed signs of physical trauma. One victim had a fractured skull; two others had major chest fractures, one body was missing both its eyes, and one was missing a tongue. The investigation concluded that a “compelling natural force” had caused the deaths. Numerous theories have been put forward to account for the unexplained deaths, including animal attacks, hypothermia, avalanche, katabatic winds, infrasound-induced panic, military involvement, or some combination of these.
Russia opened a new investigation into the incident in 2019, and its conclusions were presented in July 2020: that the cause of death was hypothermia due to a combination of an avalanche, forcing the group to leave their camp, combined with low visibility. Andrey Kuryakov, deputy head of the regional prosecutor’s office, said: “It was a heroic struggle. There was no panic. But they had no chance to save themselves under the circumstances.

Hello,
Can’t wait. One of my favorite topics.
Roll eyes every time I hear…this was an avalanche.
That’s like saying a Sasquatch is a “bear.”

Can’t Wait! Thank you in advance, Wes, for featuring this incredible story..

The new improved explanation does not appear fully plausible and still leaves the event a mystery within my thoughts.

I also look forward to this one. But, I doubt it was an avalanche that killed the group. I mean, isn’t there a picture that was discovered on one of the victims camera, which looks like a Sasquatch peering around a tree at them?
Charles R
That picture was just a human in heavy clothing, but sure got a lot of folks thinking it was an Almas which is something the local tribes say is in this area.
Lisa B
I agree m99! Something got a hold of those people! And the alleged note found in the tent that said the abominable snowman lives or something like that. Can’t wait to hear this one!

Yes in the girl,s hand was a note that Said ….now we know his Real .
And there was also a pic of a sasquatch ,and its mention in the notebook.
Plus pics of two ords ore something.

Did the “avalanche” cause the removal of the eyes and tongue? Just asking….. looking forward to this one Wes!

Josh Gates did a lengthy investigation ( 2 part show ) in his show Expedition Unknown a couple of years ago. They got to travel by snowmobile. I believe he showed an avalanche was very unlikely as the nearby Mountain was not steep enough. I do not think we will ever know. Putin has those intelligence agencies locked down again very tight, just like the KGB use to do.
My guess, no better or worse than anyone else’s, is this group got caught in some undocumented black op military ( or similar ) operation and became expendable. After the elements caused their deaths, the black ops caused blunt force trauma to a few individuals and may have removed the eyes and tongue ( could have been preditors also ) of an individual or two to muddy the waters and further the mystery.
Heck, knowing how ruthless and devious the old Soviet Union was, this may have been planned from the beginning as some exercise, and this group may have been dead people walking all along. Such a shame.

I would not believe anything John Gates does, he is pretty loose with facts. He is good entertainment however.
your explanation is the most likely in my mind. It is like SOMETHING forced them out of the tents, made them freeze to death. The body trauma (eyes and tongue) was most certainly an animal after the fact.
Charles R
Yes, Josh seldom finds anything but the point of the shows seem to be entertainment going after mysteries that interest a good deal of people. He did find a good either Yeti or Yeren footprint once and took it Dr. Meldrum, who was impressed. I think his degree in Archeology tends compromise his mind when it comes to what is considered high strangeness.
