Truck Driver Encounter In TN

A listener writes “I’m a long haul flatbed truck driver now and about a month ago I was having to do night time driving which is pretty unusual for me considering most of my loads pick up and deliver in the day time.

Night driving just isn’t a thing for me but do to my trucks onboard computer messing up I was put in a situation it became a non option as far as delivering the load I had on time. So I’m driving up through a very rural dark part of Tennessee on I-65 south, pretty much on the Kentucky line when I notice a portion of my tarp is flapping and me needing a small wake up break I decided to hit an exit ramp and fix the tarp to get some blood flow to wake me up. As I’m pulling in (probably doing about 25mph at this point) 3 deer bolt across the road infront of my truck I don’t pay too much attention to it deer are pretty normal at night in this part of this country. I get stopped jump out and walk to the back of my trailer to start fixing the tarp when I hear what sounds like a rock hit my trailer. It startled me a little bit because I’m the only one around but me trying to think logically just tell myself it may have been caught in the tires and just popped out. A minute or two passes and I hear a very loud snap behind me like the sound you get when you snap a tree limb. Now I’m on alert cause I’ve heard of bears in this part of the country and I damn sure don’t wanna be dinner.

I turn around and shine my light in the general direction I heard the noise but the trees and brush are so thick I can’t see very far into the forest. I quickly start working again and make my way back around my trailer to start on the other side when I hear this really gutteral growl I look up and this thing is standing maybe 10 feet from my trailer on the opposite side of me just staring at me. I freeze in shock and try to figure out what exactly it is my eyes are seeing but it’s so dark and the only light I have are coming off the trailer so all I’m able to make out is a silhouette of this 7ft tall thing. I remember thinking about shining my light on it but something told me if I did that then all hell was gonna break loose. Time seemed to stop in that moment cause a 30 second stare down felt like hours. After a few seconds of staring at this creature it snorts loudly and immediately lets out this ear piercing scream that I can’t even describe. It’s so loud I can feel it hit me and shake my body. After that I dropped everything I was holding and booked it for my truck, it was the only thing I could think to do to survive at that time. I apologize if my encounter seems short I have a hard time putting experiences into words.”

(New Jersey) I think I’ve read about this encounter before on Sasquatch Chronicles. If not, it was very similar. Anyway, I always enjoy encounters with truckers, especially long haul drivers. They often travel through remote, rural areas. No telling who/what they may run into!

I think I recall the episode you’re referring to. That was a good one, and he admitted to literally peeing his pants and having to throw them away a while down the road.

Short encounter ? Pretty sure time stood still and it like hours and the end was at hand. This is the type of encounter that inspire nightmares and a fear of the dark.

I was so scared for you while reading your encounter, I thought, oh!, please don’t be another 411 case. So happy you lived to tell about it. These kind of accounts always get to me. It’s like those stupid creatures are just waiting for an ambush. Thanks

Although I understand what you meant, I dont think “stupid” is the right word to describe these things on ANY situation. Based on my own encounter and what I have studied since then, these things have an innate intellect that is more human than most people I know, lol. I think that is what may have scared me so much during my own encounter. It was like a chess match….I would move, it countered my movement, almost like a challenge, saying ” I showed you mine, now it’s your move!”
I love Long haul drivers stories, though. I have read a few that happened at rest stops, lol,I dont mind telling you I have rethought a road trip or two, decide to fly instead, lol. good recount, though. Sure am glad you didnt become a midnight snack for that thing! Thanks for sharing

Just shows you how many thousands and thousands of the critters are out there…………………………
I still want to hear it. I’m not one to be scared in the woods, but knowing they are not alone, and
the idea, even, of shooting one in self-defense that would bring a raging tribe…..really makes me
realize how much I have curtailed my activities out there even with Bear Spray and a Ruger Redhawk
44 with solid cast Brown Bear load…I know I’ll be torn to pieces. They are everywhere, and I will no
longer go into the Bush alone.

This is a different Trucker or traveler story than the others……..the others were creepy enough. Remember the one where two guys stopped at a rest stop, I think it was Oregon or Washington and a whole group of them tried to surround them? Skinny and charging them in formation trying to keep the 2 guys from getting back to their Pick-up? Yikes. They almost didn’t make it.

The other trucker encounter on here is 497 I think. It was a reefer truck and happened in Indiana.@Neville L I remember that story…gave me nightmares. It almost sounded like Dogman instead of BF. Scary, scary story .

    Great encounter!
I have great respect for truck drivers. Can’t imagine the crazy things you see on the road. In my relatively short commute to work, I see plenty of things I would like to forget but seeing one of those dudes and being all alone would make me hang up my keys.
