The Most Haunted Graveyard On Earth

Weird History writes “What is now Greenwood Cemetery, in Decatur, Illinois, was first used as sacred burial grounds by Native Americans of the Illiniwek Confederation hundreds of years before any Europeans lived there.

It is one of the most haunted places on Earth. Its dark and sordid history has helped make it one of the most infamous burial sites on the planet. But what did this humble boneyard do to earn such a spooky reputation?”

There’s a haunted cemetery where I grew up but it’s illegal to explore at night as it’s privately owned. Never really gave it much thought until we found out the missing head of the doctor who unintentionally treated John Wilkes Booth’s leg was found in some museum and burried there. Then this year my dad decides to tell me about his ghost encounter there when he trespassed at night in the 1970’s with a few friends.

Wow Wes, my family is from that area. My grandfather was an engineer too on the Norfolk & Western Railroad in Decatur. It’s an odd place for sure and part of the paranormal experience I had there ‘93. Thanks for sharing!
