The Curious Depictions Of St. Christopher

St. Christopher is the patron saint of travelers and dogs. He is most well know for carrying a young Jesus across a river in the Bible. In this video I talk about the bizarre depictions of him with a dog’s head similar to Werewolf.

I never knew there were depictions of him as a dog/wolf, interesting. I was raised Catholic and even though some of my views have changed just a bit, a St. Benedict charm is something I carry with me on ALL my hikes.

It’s not uncommon if one knows the lives of the saints. St. Anthony of Padua had a collection of his sermons stolen by a young man who thought to sell them. When the young man came to a bridge crossing to get to a town a wolfman creature was standing on the other side blocking his way. The young man ran back to St. Anthony and gave his sermons back. He was about to tell the Saint what had happened to him but the Saint anticipated the story by telling the boy he had met the devil on the bridge. I read this in a life of St. Anthony of Padua but having looked it up some recounts say that the demon had taken different forms. Also there are stories of people who had committed awful atrocities and were cursed and turned into werewolves. Some cultures believe that some great sinners when they die have to atone by taking the form of wolf like creatures. Who knows what’s out there. I am sure that some of these things are based in something. All I know is that many cultures have these legends… Even the whole Native American skin-walker legends are based on consequences for canabalism.(correct me if I’m wrong)

St. Benedict Medal isn’t really a “charm” per se… I know what you mean but charm denotes more superstition… A medal that is blessed by a priest is a “sacramental” meaning unlike a “charm” which people believe has some inherent power of itself a sacramental only has power based on the blessing attached to it and on the merits of the Saint to whom it is honoring and the devotion of the one wearing it. The st. Benedict medal is a powerful sacramental against evil because of the exorcism prayer of st. Benedict written in Latin or at least abbreviations of the full Latin prayer. Also the st. Benedict medal is blessed with a special exorcism prayer because St. Benedict’s prayers even in his lifetime cast many demons out of people possessed. Medal or no medal and for anyone that this may help in times of fear or meeting of some crazy creature whether supernatural in origin or not…. I would first invoke Jesus and then St. Michael the Archangel, then your guardian angel, St. Benedict, St. John Vianney just to mention a few of the most prominent saints whose mission in life or in heaven is to intercede for us against demons.

Take a look at 4:03, in that picture on the left hand side near a tree, appears to be the depiction of either a dogman or a bigfoot. I don’t know what else to classify it as. Looks to have a hairy body and a hairless face. That is really strange. What are yall’s thoughts.

Not trying to be a know it all… Just an observation… I do not think as the description mentioned above mentioned… That the story of St. Christopher came from bible… It was after the bible. It first was written in Jacopi da todi’s, the golden legend, if I’m not mistaken. It was the first attempt at a compilation of lives of the saints. It is from his writings that we get a lot of the famous symbols and iconic depictions of saints. Like St. Lucy holding a plate with eyes. Her eyes were plucked out because she refused marriage to give her life to Jesus…. Etc…

You are correct, some of the details I thought “mmm I think you wrong about that” but did a great job putting it together. I forgot about this one

Thanks for putting this stuff up Wes. The bible thing I probably didn’t have to mention because most people probably knew what was intended anyway. If you read this Wes I’ve always wanted to just mention to you that it seems these ball of light things are on the rise. It’s very interesting how it is connected to areas where Sasquatch or dogmen are seen. I have cousins who were having a bush party once a few years ago and at different times I got the same story independently from each of them. They all went home quickly after seeing a ball of light travel silently over them just above the trees. It paused and flashed a light that lit up everything around like daylight and then it kept moving over trees and glide silently away… They don’t even like talking about it because it scared them so much… Non of them can explain it only to say it wasn’t a drone or anything known. A light of its own perfectly spherical and about the size of a volleyball just above the trees traveling in total silence. They ran back home thru the woods because they had the feeling when it left that the flash was like it marking the location. They were afraid aliens were going to show up all around them or were watching them. Cut that bush party short! Lol
