The Baltic Sea anomaly

The Baltic Sea anomaly is an unusual feature on the floor of the Baltic Sea that was discovered in 2011 by the Swedish exploration group Ocean X Team while searching for shipwrecks.

It gained worldwide attention because the first low-resolution sonar image appeared to show a large, circular object roughly 60 meters (200 feet) across, leading to speculation that it might be:

  • A crashed UFO
  • An ancient underwater structure
  • A secret military installation
  • A geological formation

What did investigators actually find?

  • A rocky formation rising from the seabed.
  • Large boulders and fractured rock surfaces.
  • No evidence of metal, machinery, or artificial construction.
  • Some unusual-looking shapes, but nothing conclusively man-made.
