SC EP:328 Encounters around the Reservation

Tom Sewid will be my guest this evening. Tom is a Native Watchman from coastal British Columbia, and recently visited a tribe in Omaha, Nebraska. I have invited the Webster brothers from the tribe to come on the show and talk about what is going on around the reservation.

Through the years, Thomas Sewid was active in the Canadian Indian political field as a Director on the boards of Aboriginal Tourism British Columbia, Aboriginal Tourism Team Canada. He even participated with the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver B.C. when he assisted with incorporating the Canadian Indian cultural component into the games.

As a true aboriginal entrepreneur he honed his business skills, so that now he works part time under contract helping others build or expand their tourism business ventures as a consultant. It has and is taking him all over western Canada and he just finished one year living and working in the Northwest Territories. There he conducted boat tours, fishing operations and in the winter ice fishing charters for the world famous Aurora Village which focuses on catering to people to see the northern lights.

These days sees Thomas assisting his life’s partner in Kent Washington with www.hamoomooadventures.com which is an adventure tourism operation catering to people wanting to sea kayak, high end camp called Glamping, take yacht based adventures and of course conduct or participate in Sasquatch tours or research. The focus to all is a heavy First Nations cultural component which is amazing after decades of honing his skills.

Tom and his partner Peggy have just launched The Seattle Sasquatch Tour, where one gets to see Peggy perform the costumed masked native Sasquatch dance in the shadow of the Tzoonakwa (Wildwoman Of The Woods) Totem pole in down town Seattle. Afterwards Thomas guides you through the Seattle Art Museum to share insight into the Sasquatch carvings found here and at The Burke Museum. This tour is sure to give insight into the creatures like no other tour in North America. They even have a dinner tour where all go to Ivar’s Salmon House which is designed and decorated like a traditional west coast Indian big house.

OMG, I don’t care about being first…I just couldn’t tell if there would be a new podcast tonight or not! Wes said a few days ago, ‘happy memorial day weekend’ and I saw no (or missed it) mention of the Sunday night show, so all day I’ve thought…no SC tonight? THANK THE GODS THAT BE, IT’S HERE! Thanks, Wes! I need Sasq. Chron. REHAB!!!!!

    • Glen K

(New Jersey) Hey Chris, you’re no loser, and either is anybody else here! Sure, you could be at some stupid barbecue stuffing yourself with food and beer, listening to people babbling on about nothing. OR, you could be here at SC with like minded people, exploring this Mysterious, Fascinating subject!! So sit back, relax, and enjoy your weekend!!!

      • Martin Z

In that case I’d rather be putting boots on the ground looking for any kind of cryptids, aliens, or the truth of humanity. I would literally give up my life for answer to the last one. A little extreme? Nahhh. Sometimes that’s the price one must pay for the answers to highly confidential or alpha secret info. But I mean real answers, not second hand or hearsay info. That’s how serious I am in my search for the truth.

  2. Glen K

( New Jersey) I have a question for my fellow listeners. And please be honest. How many of you have had their grandmother call them up, and ask them to please come over and tell Bigfoot to stop throwing rocks at her house?

  3. mauri g

Wes everytime I hear this guy my bulls.it meter goes through the roof.I know bigfoot is real and love listening to shows but when I hear people that want to make money off it I have to question what they say is true or not.think about this, bigfoot is big and extremely strong but that one guy was able to win at tug of war with bigfoot, come on.and it was able to get close enough to grab his leg without seeing him, right.and tom from the chakawakmakawakmak nation charging huge amounts to go look for bigfoot,if hes never seen one then nobody would go so it makes sense to make up stories so people would think hes that good.I would think sense the bigfoot where he is goes to school to know his language then theyd be smart enough to stay hid.I dont know if the ones here in north carolina speaks cherokee or english because they wont talk to me.wes you have a great show but I think you do it a disservice when you have these clowns on.just my 2 cents

    • Stephen W

I totally agree in the one episode tom said he wasn’t afraid of them , well when you’ve been in a life or death situation or you been in combat you are afraid, it’s fear that’s keeps you alive, because fear and intelligence are the same level anyone who tells you they are not afraid is stupid, this is why I can’t listen to tom to much because he makes his self out as a hero and fears nothing like I said when you’ve in combat you know what fear is or like when people have came face to face with these Sasquatch, its shame really because tom could be such a wealth of good information , don’t doubt his knowledge but I want a bit more truth

    • Viva

I agree. I have been turning off when I hear this guy come on and the last couple of shows have made my bullcrap meter go off as well. It does seem like advertising for this guy and his company. He is on wayyy too much. Adding my two cents.

    • Dianne S

Man..I am so on the same page as you!! I actually unssubcribed after this show. Anyone with a trickle of common sense can go on their own to look for bigfoot. they’re all over here in Utah mountains… T Sewid is just trying to make money when it’s so easy to go to those museums etc on your own.
Geeze I even notice he changes his attitude towards bigfoot with whoever he’s around.

  4. F S

    Wes:
Please no more of this gentleman.
I’d MUCH RATHER HEAR FROM YOU:
    * Updates to past guests. (DYING to hear these.)
    * Stories you’ve been told but the callers won’t come on. (You must have TONS!)
    * Encounters with other “monsters” and paranormal phenomenon.
    * Even the occasional author or “expert”. (NOT Duke. If he MUST be on AS A CO-HOST, it would be nice if he showed the same respect you show by not constantly interrupting the guests with his own stories and constant shtick. I just can’t take that smokers’ lungs’ wheezing.)
You ask very insightful questions, and then shut up and let THE GUEST talk.
    You are a great story-teller.
    Just my 2 cents.
    Thanks.

  5. F S

12 minutes into the show – and I turned it off.
    * You’ve got two “researchers” on a phone interview, and one refuses to talk.
    * They have amazing audio, but won’t share it.
    * They have documented four kids of Sasquatch, but won’t discuss them.
    * They played “tug-of-war” with a person’s body – but never saw the creature, and the human won.
    * “You have to hear the audio to believe it.” Um – YEAH!
    * They are in “contract negotiations”. (Eye roll.) For what? To not share anything or talk to anyone?
Ridiculous! Very unprofessional gentleman. This don’t-say-anything attitude from people who claim to have information or evidence is getting old. Why even do an interview?
(And Tom – people of every race and nationality travel to conduct business in person. That’s not “an Indian ‘thing'”. That a human being “thing”‘. Then the line about going to see them so you can sit on their rug. Seriously? Talk about stereotyping.)
Wes have been extremely supportive of Tom’s business. He deserves better than this.
Maybe when you get all the Hollywood set for this deal you can send us a smoke signal?
    “How?
    And HOW!”
    – The Three Stooges

    • Rob

Totally agree with FS. All good points. Love this show but I’m tired of hearing from Tom. The killing Sasquatch episode about did me in. Every 2 minutes in that episode I got to hear how great a hunter he is and what caliber you need to bring down a Sasquatch. If they have such great audio from the night this guy got grabbed then please play it. If they don’t want to then I don’t want to hear about it at all.

  6. Anita S

Really??? ^^^ u don’t think other races are making $$$ off this? Get of your high horse. With the exception of bear & coonbo who do show respect for nature & these beings. No wonder no else is getting results e.g. tv shows rolls eyes. As usual we have been aware of these beings for centuries don t have to prove anything to us. It’s the other races that HAVE to have proof we just accept them

  7. Chuck S

F S, I agree with the points you made in yout post above ^^^. This interview got very tiresome, very quickly. Wes was, as usual, very professional, but the guy didn’t answer a couple of questions and gave no explanation as to why he didn’t want to answer. When the guest got to the part about “Praying with Sasquatch”, I almost turned off the show, but by then I was curious as to how much more weird things could get. I hung on to the end and wasn’t disappointed.

  8. Marian B

Sasquatch is “a new industry” ? “An economic boom”? Wow. This was all talk and no content. I believe that Wes was expecting different experience stories and not this infomercial. Really these guys did not understand what Wes’s show is about. It’s to relate our experiences. Not to hawk our up coming money making expeditions. “research ”
programs are my least favorite and especially “researchers” who are selling Sasquatch.

    • Duke S

Amen. Your guess that Wes was not pleased and what he was expecting vs what he actually got were 2 different things, are dead on. At least Caveman will TELL you the stories, however weird they may sound…..

  9. winkatme

Wes, you put so much time and effort into getting guests to OPEN UP and tell their experiences. I could NOT believe what those 2 brothers DIDN’T DO and that’s… SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES! I’ve always thought of native americans especially the elders as highly evolved spiritual beings. But these 2 brothers are out for money I know their human just like everybody else but I’ve always believed that knowledge should be FREE and available to EVERYONE! Who knows they could have saved some lives with what they know now that opportunity has passed. Much LOVE to Wes, Duke, and Tom THANK YOU for sharing YOUR stories.

  10. chris m

This guys too closed minded for me, I appreciate his opinion but I had a conversation with him online and he was kind of a dick, he doesnt appreciate anyone elses opinion except his own on the subject, as was clearly evident in the round table when he was disrespectful to Woody’s opinion.

  11. darren w

I rarely comment but thought perhaps this time I would chime in.
“First” is a little idiotic I know, but it comes naturally to me…and it was all in fun.
Wes… We appreciate all the hard work you put into making sure we have episodes to listen to every week. Thank you, brother. If those who don’t want to come on the show are ok with it, an episode of you telling some of their stories would be really cool.
I’ve got no problem with promoting other shows, expeditions, podcasts, etc… and most of them in the past have been good shows, but I hold no delusions that I am going to like every episode. This one seemed to lack substance. It was a little like a salad without dressing…and then the steak and potato never even show up.

Glamorous camping = glamping. High end accommodations in the form of wall tents on platforms with luxurious furnishings like feather beds and palm frond ceiling fans and whirl pool hot tubs, where in the front of your tent opens up to a beautifully secluded and richly diverse nature area. Picture it on the plains of the Serengeti or in the Kalahari desert.

I want to start by giving my respects for our fallen soldiers on this Memorial Day. ??

This SC reminded me of an info-commercial for Bigfoot tours. Wes is kind and always gives plugs for his guest
(Podcast, books, websites etc), but those guest always give information in return. I found the timing of picking up the
scent of a Bigfoot just a bit too convenient.
With that said, I hope the words were true and not hype to drum up money for a wild goose chase.
    Members have a great holiday!

  14. Rob P

I’ve never left a comment, but after that I have to…
Wes, your show is great, I listen all the time, but please no more of this guy. The last three episodes he had to himself were so hard to listen to. He sounds as if he really likes to hear himself talk, especially about his Native American heritage. We get it, you’re Native American. I’d much rather listen to a witness who knows nothing about the subject.

A tug of war between him and a Sasquatch over his friend? Seriously? I wouldn’t have blamed you if you had cut him off right there. Good job at being respectful Wes.

        • Rob P

          Dear M99,
Thanks for correcting me? If you notice I wrote that in another paragraph. I know tom didn’t say that. That comment was for the other guy that was interviewed. That was one of the worst story’s ever told on this show. You don’t have to think that, but I do and I’m sure Wes would want to know that.
I know tom isn’t Native American, that was a joke because of how much he talks about it.
Also, what does it matter if tom and Wes are friends? I don’t have a problem with that. Are you saying that’s why he has had him on the show 4 or 5 times?
I was just trying to give my opinion on an exhausted guest. Too much of a know it all. I don’t like listening to him, and it looks like I’m not the only one.

Do YOU think he is a good guest to have on the show more..??????

        • Rob P

Do YOU think he is a good guest to have on the show more m99….?????

          • m99

            Dear Rob,
I don’t know, I just tend to be more cognizant of the hosts feelings, I suppose. It’s like going to a dinner party, and the steak’s tough, then openly shout ‘Damn, this Steak sucks!’ ha… Something like that.

But yes, you’re right, I guess Wes should know, but I’m more inclined to send an email, so as to not disrespect him or hurt his feelings. I guess the reason I feel this way is because of what he and his brother have been through with all the accusations and such. Plus, I just believe we who are members of SC are better than all that.

And as far as Tom S goes, yes I do think he’s a good guest to have on the show. I didn’t like the F bombs coming out of his mouth the first show, not because I have virgin ears, but because it isn’t professional and it IS disrespectful. Apparently Wes spoke to him about that and he toned it down.

Tom is a “First Nations” native North American. Wes was obviously privileged to share in an historic time when Tom visited the Omaha Nation and had the two from there on with him. Maybe it wasn’t as eloquent as normal, and maybe Tom beefed it up a little, but I find his exuberance and joy in this new endeavor to be both refreshing and entertaining. He’s trying to help people see the big guy, and it takes $$ to do so.

Anywho Rob, that’s all she wrote, my two cents, for what it’s worth. Please brother, no offense intended. Thanks _m 99

Wow……and here I thought I was the only one who’s BS meter was in the RED ZONE…..never underestimate the wisdom of the silent majority!!! Fool me once shame on you…fool me twice shame on me. I’m a vet myself and to all my brothers and sisters in uniform; military, police, EMT, firefighters….THANK YOU!!

  16. Christian L

Wow……and here I thought I was the only one who thought the last bunch was a bit fishy….never underestimate the wisdom of the silent majority!!! Fool me once shame on you…fool me twice shame on me. I’m a vet myself and to all my brothers and sisters in uniform; military, police, EMT, firefighters….THANK YOU!!

        • m99

          Hi Christian,

When you login and goto your account profile settings, or when you sign out and sign back in, there’s a drop down menu, which I’m guessing has your alternate userid within the menu,. Once you see it, select it (choose it) and then sign in as usual. It should keep (save) the new userid, once it’s chosen.

The same thing happened to me. There are two or three other people with my name, so I shortened it and use m99 now. Hope this is of some use to you. If not, try sending an email to Wes, and as soon as he can he’ll check it out, I;m sure. _m

  17. Christian L

Not possible for every episode to be my favorite (although I have a lot of favorites) but If I never hear Tom or these brothers again at least my definate least favorite can’t get any worse. Nothing against you Wes, you did an awesome job considering what you had to work with, on this one. Looking forward to the next episode!

    • Tony H

Totally agree. Answers were way out In left field. Wes has it right. Encounters are more interesting then these so called experts. Worst episode ever. You can tell wes is like wtf you guys talking about

  18. Richard L

    I agree with : mauri g F S and the others on Thomas…
Its the first time that i dont like a guest ,B S
looks like an advertisement …. i dont listen when hes on ??
But i enjoy Duke being on the show!

  19. MONTE M

This guest is always touting his money making ideas and that is a big turn off . Iam sure some of the experiences he sells are cool but is this Disney Land or do people subscribe to hear average Joes experience with the creature in which without SC’s you’d probably never hear it . This fellow is a Bigfoot SALESman . Looking to cash in on what he views as his Bigfoot lottery ticket . He’d be good on Finding Bigfoot . Thomas Moneymaker .

  20. Brian C

What’s this gentlemen’s website again? In the interview, he mentions he has an actual (albeit pixelated) pic of the ‘Squach they were talking too.

  21. Maxim K

24 minutes in, I just can’t go any further – this just doesn’t really happen with me and this show as I normally enjoy it. The whole praying and he’d get closer to pray, I’m sorry. I’m a believer in many things, but I take it all with a healthy amount of skepticism. As pointed out by others, my BS meter is breaking on this guy. I stopped the podcast to read the comments to see if anyone else felt the same way. I enjoy this show for the eyewitness testimonies, the genuine ones. Stick with that Wes; it’s your bread and butter. Keep up the great work, but less of this please.

    • Barbara W

I so agree. He’s unbearable to listen to. In no way am I blaming Wes. But if I see Tom Sewid as a guest I will happily skip past everything he has to say, and move on to the next guest. Hopefully he will be the last guest on an episode, because a lot of listeners will be fading out when he fades in.

  22. Nicolas B

May I suggest using Woody as a bait? It should be possible to shoot at the sasquatch accurately in the spine while it charges to make it stop. Just a thought…

  23. Tracy W

    Hey Wes
I absolutely love your shows as well as the sound of your voice. You have great guest on here the majority of the time and you do a fantastic job of interviewing them.
I hated this show with all my heart. I didn’t believe a word of it and it just kept going and going for what seemed like forever!
I have so many things that I could point out but I won’t because I love the show but this one made me want to deactivate my account lol…uggh!
How do you win a tug of war with one of these creatures?
    You don’t!

    • Alexander F

THANK YOU!! You know, as paying members, we do have a voice in this stuff. This was by far the worst episode I have heard. Thomas is just pure garbage. Not attacking his character. But, he has an agenda with his business. And it’s absurd to have us hear his crap.

      • Gumshoguy

Most enjoy the shows and it appears the majority here did as well. This is the nature of the business. Rather the each show be crafted and designed specifically for Alexander F or Tracy W, it is for all to enjoy, for all of us to consider various possibilities.in and outside the box.

  24. Christian L

I know there is weekly pressure as a business owner to “produce” but maybe some weeks the truth is a credible witness can’t be found…maybe use those weeks for alternate cryptid accounts or transition to a live only ne call in forum. Better to not put your credibility at risk and not aire any more episodes from these yahoos…..it’s obvious they really hit a root canal inflamed nerve?with your listener fan base. Keep your stick on the ice!

  25. Knobby

Tracy, really, you thought of deactivating your account over one episode. I assume that’s a bit of tongue-n-cheek hyperbole. I see a lot of people joining the flavor of the comments of it being a horrible episode, but I don’t think it was a totally terrible episode. As far as having a tug of war with a sasquatch, if the sasquatch would have really wanted to win it could have, but there’s no reason to arbitrarily dismiss these things as fabricated.

There was a number of interesting things in the episode, especially when Wes asked specific questions like if they understood their language. They replied with them understanding the local Native American language, which could go back a thousand years of living in proximity of them. The one tribesman said he asked in his native language for one to throw something and it threw something. A lot of it involved Wes asking for their take on things like what tree structures were for and their guess is they are territorial markers for different clans.

But some things are hard to follow what they were talking about because they jumps around to things. The context isn’t explained so well at times as they jumped around to so many different things during the episode, and I found it easy to lose track of what’s being discussed as some of it is rambling off so many different side bars away from what was being discussed. At other times its a bit boring. And I see a lot of those commenting not liking the discussion on commercial ventures.

  26. Alexander F

I’m sorry but … is anyone else just incredibly tired of hearing this goofball Tom…? He just won’t go away … Pushing that absurd “adventure” company and telling his clearly BS exaggerated tales.

This guy won’t stop appearing on all my BF podcasts and channels. I’m sorry but .. Christ .. I can only take so much of his BS.

  27. sherry r

I’m sorry, I love to listen to SC,but usually never read the comments because there is a lot of disrespect from the peanut gallery!! You all get real and take their story’s with a grain of salt and respect Wes for letting you all comment . There are other podcasts out there that like that kind of feedback!

  28. David R

    Hey Wes,
I really appreciate your show a lot and it has helped me immensely after some really hard days. Please keep doing what you’re doing. There is nothing else out there like your show and I think that speaks a lot to the quality of your work. You have created a body of work that will stand the test of time. We all need to remember that we are incredibly spoiled to have you and I think we’d do well to remember that you’re not doing this because you have to but because you want to. (I believe) Thank you for all you’ve done and I hope for more.
    David

  29. Chuck S

I checked out the last two episodes of Monster X Radio, and Thomas Sewid was the guest on both of them. In the most recent episode he was very upfront on how he and other Native Americans are capitalizing on the Sasquatch phenomenon. I don’t fault them because I am a fan of capitalism. I appreciate that Wes and other Sasquatch podcasters support each other, but some things can be a bit overdone. Then again, I’m not the one trying to fulfill the high expectations of an audience.

  30. Wayne B

This episode really was just an informecial, and i really do find my BS meter goes of as soon as someone say oh i have this really clear photo but im not showing it.I just so sick of that line.If you have a great photo and your sure of whats on it show it and be done dont try and milk it .
    Have fun
    Wayne

  31. Michele C

Wow, seems like a lot of the people who commented on here were cranky ? I enjoyed this episode for the most part and I always enjoy hearing from Tom Sewid. Thank you, Wes, for another enjoyable show and especially for all of your hard work!

  32. Waylon M

Martin Z.. I think your the ignorant one, 1st if all There was alot of things Bob Garrett would not comment on.. does that make him drunk or ignorant. I am a tribal member and dislike these comments from uneducated people like yourself. You have all natives stereotyped as being a drunk on on some other types of drugs and alcohol. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but for you to speculate some bullshit like that.. you need slap your self…
