SC EP:147 The Chewbacca Man

 

I have a story in my past that I have never told except to my Dad and best friend, either of whom ever believed me until this week.

My best childhood friend called me this week and said” Remember that weird story you told me about the Chewbacca Man? Well I believe you now buddy!” He had an encounter this past weekend in East Texas and for some reason he’s a believer now! Let me explain. When I was about 11 years old. My Dad was a land developer in east Texas around Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn Reservoir. He would buy lake side plots of land and get a surveyor to break it down and Dad would sell the lots. He developed a few campgrounds this way. I grew up in a small town in Deep east Texas around the Sabine and Angelina National Forest just above the Big Thicket.

Every so often my Dad would go see the surveyor to discuss business. Mr. W, the surveyor had his office in a small building beside his house.The surveyors house was way outside of town down a FM road in the Sabine National forest. Dad would ask me to come along sometimes because the surveyor had a son about my age. The boy’s name was Tommy James “TJ”. He was really a couple of years younger than me but Dad just thought I would like to come along for the ride. Mr. W and my dad would discuss land and I would go play with TJ. At this time I think I was 11 and TJ was 9. TJ had a dirt pile in his back yard we usually played in. We were playing and TJ suddenly said ” There’s a Chewbacca man that lives down that trail there”, pointing to a thin trail in the back left corner of his back yard. “Do you wanna see it?”, TJ said. I said “Chewbacca lives back there?” “Yes” TJ said, “He’s a Chewbacca man.”

    I do agree with you Wes, about E. Texas being infested… Do you think the reports of down-syndrome looking squatch are inbred, because of infestation?? Great encounters Wes… Ciao

      Hey DonRay, I know I’m not Wes but I’d like to throw my two cents in there which is more like a penny cut into a third. But I one hundred percent believe that east Texas does have quite a bit of inbreeding between sasquatch goin on and I do think that accounts for a lot of the aggressive behavior reported down there

        ya…. i do think the aggression is there from inbreeding also, Tyler But my theory is, it goes on in other places… but the areas that have less and less inbreeding the squatch look more and more human…. Those aggressive encounters with inbreds, carry a variety of mannerisms…. probably cause crazy comes in all shapes n sizes.. But then there are some groups with less inbreeding, and they seem to react in a similar fashion…. Idk just my opinion n observations….. Hope its all brought to light someday…Ciao

          I think They hate us because of this ” Lord’s Blessing ” deal , between Jacob and Esau ? Someday I will get it all together and send it toWes to do an Episode.

    Excellent show! Three in a row of way above average guests and encounters. Congratulations on all of your success Wes, Not only that but I firmly believe, like others do that your show is doing a great deal of good in making this subject more acceptable. It has been very emotional for me as I put the pieces together in my own encounters after listening to your shows. I too have felt that raw primal fear unlike anything else, and it has affected my whole life since. Thank You!!

    Good stuff boss, you keep up the amazing work. I honestly haven’t heard a single disappointing show since Wes had gone solo. It’s pretty impressive how he keeps stepping up his game week after week, and if you know SC it’s not an easy thing to top the episode previous because they’re just that good and entertaining. I love being a part of it, even if it is a small miniscule part. Hopefully one day I have the honor and privilege to shake your hand Wes. Another great week locked down

    Great show! One of my favs, Wes. I wonder if TJ met “Chewbacca” when they were maybe 4 years prior when TJ was about 4, and perhaps the sasq was a curious almost-grown juvenile at that time. They could have developed a friendship that way.

    When Jason finally broke to run the visual that I had was forest Gump smoking down the road when the leg braces came off LOL.

    -I am sure that it was not the case, not the intention of the younger country kid ‘TJ’, the surveyor’s sun, (but if Stephen King got a hold of this for a book idea), the kid could have been bringing Chewbacca – man free lunches… -(In a Creative fictional horror kind of way – He doesn’t like you! In fact I don’t like you either! And I am all out of cracker Jacks! Sidney!!!)… Stay safe and if you have to shoot one, make it huge and make it count, Thanks for sharing these encounters and I am looking forward to you joining the Sasquatch Chronicles forum.

      Papa Yeti- YES!!! Just like in Transformers when Sector 7 Agent Simmons said that he had been searching for alien’s for years and Mickaela had one in her purse!!!! ( I am a nerd for robot movies!)
      This kid was so sheltered or something that something that would have scared the hair off a normal kid, just was everyday for him.
      The best ‘horror’ movies, in a way, are those that are totally plausible… Misery….(yep – a Stephen King!!) this would make a great one! Oh!!!! And the movie ‘Ben’ about a rat and his nasty army of friends who ‘befriend’ a lonely boy……Jaysus! This stuff is CREEPY!????????????????????????????

    Good lord. Helpe if you can friends. …. My wife’s did, that goes four years ago, had a black porcelain bowl. We’ve been using it temporarily hot the rescues… The problem is, the mirror fell off the wall & killed my wife’s dogs’ bowl. Wtf do I do ??????!!!

    Really cool and very scary episode, thank you Wes!
    Can you imagine waking up and not just see a face, but see a face thats’ been “seeing” you while you’ve been asleep?
    Wish I had known a TJ, when I was a boy, I could have sent my little brother to play with him and his hairy pal.
    Think now, I’ll just go lock the window and pull the curtains, you know, just because, no other reason.

    TJ was thinking that it was a friend to play with. He was out there with his dad, and had no one to play with, so he went out in the woods, and found a bigfoot. He must of been too young to tell his dad about it, or be scared! To him it was someone to play with. He should come out and write a book. I doubt many people would believe him unless he came out on some ones show to tell it. It would be a best BIGFOOT SELLER. WE need to hear his stories! I hope TJ is listening to this, and calls Wes to tell his story.

      Yeah, TJ just might be in an asylum right now, and he can’t write a book because he went bat s*#t crazy after having a Sasquatch as a bud! He obviously was witness to the guest, Jason’s reaction to the unseen creature and the creature’s reaction to Jason. I wonder what TJ thought about Jason’s reaction- whether it spooked him enough to not be so trusting of the Wildman he was feeding…..????

    I hope T.J. is still alive. The way the family left so fast and no word about it to their friends. The dads knew each other so well and yet not one goodbye. Kind of weird. Something bad happened I think. What do you all think of their disappearance?

    Little Woods of Horrors… Starts off with Cracker Jack and Lil Debbie’s… This leads up to kittens and puppies… Then the neighbor’s pet chiuaua… To friends from school or any other “friends” that happen to come by…

    I can hear it now… “Hey! Wanna come help me feed my friend?”

    Could be another Blair Witch Project… Muuuuahahahaha…

    Great show- as usual…! I loved the story this guy told. He clearly translated the creepy factor when telling the story! That kid would creep me out too, having one as a ‘friend’ and feeding it. I would have peed my pants if something unseen reacted to me that way ! Yikes. Awesome show!!!

    Great show! I love the way you let the guests take their time and go step-by-step through their encounters. I honestly felt like I was right there with him and his friend during their encounters. Plus this guest was really good at description and facts. This is going to be an all time favorite. Good job gentlemen.

    I really loved this story. it was like TJ introducing his friend to the wizard of Oz. Whose the man behind the curtain. Anticipation and the idea of not knowing but hearing. eEmember the tin man quivering. Even the lion was scared. The unknown is always scary. I think it is remarkable that the boy made this friend. Thinking about the cow man. The boy in that instance really liked the cow man. It came to his window made faces and bird sounds. It was the fear of the mother that enraged the BF. The fact that the mother had no way to understand the beast that our world refuses to accept is the problem. If either were aware of the animals existence it wouldnt of been too horribly shocking. As my people teach, the environment is a mirror. The energy you put out their is reflected back to you. If you are scared, you get scared. But if you are pure innocense, you will have nothing to fear. That was TJ. That was also the cow man boy. And their are many wittnesses that fall into that catagory.
    I believe TJ would of visited his BF friend at the time the guest came. His intentions were honest. He was just a little boy and wanted to share his incredible friend. Poor boy! He probably had to explain this to his surveyor dad when the guests dad rushed away with his son. “Why is the boy upset!? what happened in the woods!?” The surveyors son probably felt pressure to explain his chubacca friend. I could only imagine, and i do, how the surveyor dad reacted. Probably grabbed his son, ran home too. Next move, leave the area so that his son dosent associate with the creature again.
    I pray that TJ made it threw his family situation and can come forward. I am sure he needed counseling after this ordeal, and probably didnt get it. I send good thoughts out to this young man.

    Somebody needs to try and track him down. With all the resources available today I bet we could find him. Heck, I’d even help pay for a P.I. if need be.

    Bigfoot can foretell the future. My concrete evidence for this is the creature’s expression, “SSSSSHHHHHHAAAAAAATTTTTTT!!!!”

    It was a prediction of what the person did in his drawers in the past tense. 😉

    Anyone else here more creeped out by little TJ?
    The way he called out for Chewbacca Man was akin to: ‘Here, kitty, kitty, kitty…’
    And those Lil’ Debbie Snack cakes–you KNOW Sasquatch looked down at this kid and was FREAKED out that the kid had zero fear.
    Probably eased his huge hand out, slowly accepted the snack cake, and took mega steps back, away from Stephen King Jr.

    As for the Squatch simply walking away from the trooper’s vehicle, that he didn’t even react when the trooper screamed–I can’t help but wonder Squatch’s attitude being one of: My job here’s done. Or, as my daughter said, BigFoot Hazing 101.

    Both these encounters were scary–NOTHING’S as scary as little T.J.
    *shudders…goes in search of Holy water*

      It’d make a good fictional movie wouldn’t –

      Plot: A little evil deranged kid leads people into the forest to feed his “friend”. Then the “Men in Black” come – try to convince everyone they’ve been seeing bears and the little evil trollop leads them into the forest to meet “Mr. Bear” – last scene fades to black over the screams of the “debunkers”.

    Wes, heard you say that it’s never a good idea to run, generally speaking I agree, but when you said that I immediately thought of Mike Wooley’s near death encounter. I think if he hadn’t run when he did they would have ripped him to shreds and drug him into the woods.
    I just moved to Jefferson, TX, home of the annual Texas Bigfoot Conference, coming up next month, and smack dab between the Caddo Critter, the Sabine Thing, and the Fouke Monster!

    It’s interesting to hear Jason imitate the sasquatch vocals. A couple things jumped out at me regarding this animals understanding and use of “language”. First off…..they way Jason reports that it said “Owa”. It sounds just like the same word used by sasquatches in the “Sierra Sounds” by Ron Morehead. If you listen closely…..you can hear Ron repeat “Owa” back to the sasquatch that said it first and they go back and forth several times. Maybe this a common greeting?? Second, it sounds like the sasquatch is imitating a startled human by yelling “SHAT” (OH SHAT!) when it realizes there is a new face there. Third, the sasquatch abruptly halts the chase when Jason begins screaming DADDY!! understanding that other humans are present and on their way. This animal also understood that the soft calls and cooing usually resulted in him getting some delectable morsel to eat. Sooooooo……….next time you hear heavy footfalls on your perimeter…….Say OWA and pull out some little Debbies and get the camera ready. This is definitely repeatable…..we should be able to glean some usable info from this.

    Thank you. This was a thing that happened to me as a child. The humor you guys are bringing to it cracks me up. As an adult I have laughed at this too. But It was a very real thing.
    If circumstances are just right….on a quiet property, where a little country kid lives and plays in the woods everyday….and an unexpected playmate starts trying to gently communicate. And the only thing the child knows to communicate with is one of his favorite sweet snacks…. a relationship is born….
    I think I stumbled upon this… because TJ trusted me and wanted to show me his friend. He told me to ‘WAIT!” But I was so scared, I ran! I have always wondered if I would have waited……what would have happened…..what would I have seen….who would I have met?
    I know it sounds crazy but I believe what chased me out of the woods was a Sasquatch and it and TJ had been meeting there enjoying a box of cracker jacks….in the deep woods of East Texas….and nobody knew……..

      You said it was Talking , ( maybe you could not understand it , But it was Talking ) How Fascinating !

      I wish you’d use whatever information your dad could provide about his former business associate to try and track down the whereabouts of T.J. He may have one of the single greatest stories to ever be told about sasquatch. At the very least maybe you could consult with a good P.I. to get an opinion as to whether or not he might be found.

      I loved listening to your encounter…you’ve got a gift for story telling.

    Thank you Jason for sharing. You did a great job making us feel your fear and you described the details so well I could see it in my mind. I hope TJ made it out of there OK. Imagine the stories that kid has today??? You were older and he wanted to impress you with his “friend”. The scary part for me is that TJ was unafraid, and called to it like a puppy……”Come On, Come on. He must have heard it yell before…..with his “whooooooooooo’ call. He must have never seen any aggression for him to treat it like that and not be scared. I can see why you ran and never went back. Creepy. Thanks again.

    I emailed the Big Thicket campground in Texas to ask about reserving a cabin (can’t remember what week I requested) and I got an email saying that the entire period ( several week stretch ) was reserved for their special needs kids camp they do every year. Seems like easy pickings for a rogue Squatch.

    Wonderful share! The only thing that has happened to me & my husband is hearing wood knocks in the Santa Cruz mountains in No. California near the Big Foot Museum. We went back several times to see if we could experience again & left sack of organic apples which were gone each time we went back. Big Foot had been seen previously in that spot.

    You & Jason had commented about how sometimes we have to be quiet about these experiences. I wish we could be more open, but the time is not ripe for that. I dont begin to understand why the government wants this hidden & other paranormal phenomena. Jason summed it up nicely by saying its a mystery & partly why we are so interested. Thank you to you both, Wes & Jason.

    Such a scary story, well actually both of them were. The story gave me the creeps as I read it twice before it aired. I only wish the tropper/officer would tell his story. He’s among friends around here and he might recall some details that he’d missed before. Just thinking about what that sasquatch had in mind while watching him sleep is enough to give ya the chills at night!!! I’m sure that bigfoot was in the area and watched/waited for him. I don’t know why, but this thought came to mind, perhaps the bigfoot could actually tell the officer was drifting off to sleep, perhaps they can hear extremely well and it could tell by the officer’s breathing that he was sleeping, so it ventured closer to take a peek!

    WOW ! I can almost relate with TJs Mindset . ( Almost ) We Moved Up North of US 10 in Michigan , From Detroit in 1978. The Neighborhood we Moved up from had children of my Age , Up & Down Our Street. The Farm we moved to ……… The closest kid my age was 4 miles away.
    I had a Younger Brother ( 4 Years ) But he Still wore a Diaper , Who wanted to Hang out with a Baby ?

      This isn’t the ONLY Strange topic I collect information on ( He He He ……..) I Forget the Gentleman’s Name …. But He was in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict. & After the War , He was relocated to an Air Force Base out bye Area 51 ? His job was as a Weather Man . & having to go out early in the Mornings; To send up Weather Balloons. When He came in Contact with White Skinned – Tall – Extraterrestrial Life Forms ! That have some kind of Agreement with our Government ? Some Tech Swap . Giving this Race a Way – Point . In their Travels . He said something of some kind of Ship that was Damaged came in , & it’s Side was torn open ? And He seen Fiber Optic Cable running all through It ……….?
      These Entity’s were just like Us . But they had Much Longer Life spans … Their Bones Never stop Growing. But after a Certain Age their Organs Do. So the Older they are – the Taller they Become .
      One of the Times , he ran into a Group of these Beings . There were a few Present who where His Size , & the Teacher was like 10 Foot Tall ! ( But not BEEFY like the Forest Man , Thin & Sickly .
      When This Soldier encountered this Group , He Acknowledged them. They Greeted Him . And Told him they were getting a Lesson on Other Life Forms than their Own. ( As the Older ones were the Teachers ) The Tallest one , who was a Female asked if He had any Questions he cared to Ask Them ? He asked Where they were From ? And this Teacher Laughed at Him ? Poking Fun at Him to it’s Students…. Saying ‘ Oh ! It Thinks we can Explain to It where We are From ! Does it KNOW what we call Our Constellations ? And his Question was Never Answered . ( Are they even from THIS Reality ? From what I have heard NONE of them can say where they are From. Or they Conveniently Lie About It ?) This Soldier was kinda put down? After he was Made Fun Of .
      Sensing this , The Teacher told him to ask another Question . He asked what Man’s Trait was , That Set’s Him Apart . At That the Being told him , it is Our Ability of Taming Animals . ( I thought WHAT ?) And this Being told Him they had Wiped ALL the Animals from their Planet ! It seemed they were a Food Source for such Creatures that Inhabit their Planet . So they just eliminated them All. That MAN was the Only Life Form they Knew of , who would Tame a Wild Lion . ( Like for a Circus ) Something that would Eat a Man in the Wild , We Tame it to Hand – For Amusement . They could not Figure us Out !
      Was THIS a Case of Such ? A Child Taming the Hairy Man of the Forest , To Hand ? Because he was Lonely ?
      Just Fascinating !

    ( Now I am not trying to Attach myself to this Account. It wasn’t Mine , I wasn’t There ) I am only offering my View point. When I was a Child living in Detroit Mi. I would walk back & forth to School , I had a Younger Brother. & at that Time it wasn’t Required to Pick your Children up from School in 1977. At the Time we lived in Redford Township , On my Way Home from School. I stopped to play in a Mud Puddle. I found a empty Milk Carton , that I was Floating in the Puddle. When This Teenage Girl came over to the Empty Lot & began Accusing Me of Littering ? ( I found it on the Ground ) This Girl was much Older than I was . I was scared (then , Not No More . I have he Crooked Nose to Prove it ) When I would try to get around her & go Home . This Girl would Block my Way , Seeing my Fear. She was Teasing Me . I was LOST.
    Until I thought I seen my Mothers Car driving down Our Street. And Thinking it was My Mother I Yelled ‘ MOM !’ & this Girl took off Running ! ( & so did I ) I ran Home & told my Mother & she put me in the Car to go find this Girl. But I never seen her again .
    Yelling for ” Dad ” more than Likely made this thing THINK . Seeing a couple Children was something it could relate to , No Matter it’s Intentions. But when it Heard Jason yell for his Dad . IT KNEW when to Stop.
    I think it Was Speaking ! These Creatures are not Smart like us , with our Computers & Cell Phones . But they are Common Sense Smart .
    This has Become one of my Ten Favorite Episodes ! One i can listen to Time & Time Again .

    Wow, why wasn’t TJ scared of the Chewbacca Man since he knew it was the boogeyman? I wish you could find that guy (TJ) now and have him tell his story. And explain why his family moved abruptly, and where they moved off to. Very great show.

    Coon hunters in Michigan hunt with Dogs. When I was waking down the Road that fateful night before I seen that Gorilla , When I heard that thing walking beside me on the Road. I dismissed it from a Coon Hunter , because there was no Dogs. And it did not have a Flashlight ?
    And I do know Coon Hunters that have told me of the Mumbling Voices from the Darkness. And if you attract their Attention that you might as well give up the Hunt. The dogs come in around your Ankles and wont ” Hunt ” and there is never any Coon around those mumbling Voices.
    This Verified for me the Mumbling Voices I heard that night parked by the River , back in 1996 ( or so )

    I’ve always wondered if George Lucas had seen a Sasquatch because of Chewie/Wookies in Star Wars. He is from northern California and Sasquatch is a big part of the culture in the PNW.

    Folks,
    I joined in some part to come here and say this is maybe the top show for me. Tracy’s emotion, the most recent guy on ep820 that was feeling guilty, Anthony’s insane experience in 419 and all the other “classics” didn’t really draw me in like this one did. I think in large part its because I grew up in the country (and have unfortunately been relegated to the suburbs) and can 100% relate to going over to a kid’s house you don’t hardly know and just deciding to go to the woods and screw around. But when that kid says “Do you want to see Chewbacca Man?” hooo boy is that chilling for some reason.

    Re-visiting this golden episode!
    The sound of laugher and kids playing definitely lures them in. There’s an outdoor kids camp near my cabin in the Rockies, and they’ve had Sasquatch sightings since the 80’s.
