Tonight I will be speaking to Tom and Larry Baxter. Tom writes “I’m not sure if this would be interesting for you, and it’s a second-hand account. My dad actually had the encounter and he passed away at age 84 a couple of years ago.
I grew up in the Albany/Corvallis Oregon area, and as a child, my dad would tell us his story of his encounter which occurred in the Silverton Oregon area circa 1955/56 timeframe. His story was a brief one, but very descriptive (mostly what others on your show have described it) and it did impact his life and thoughts about the experience over his lifetime, and it made my brother and I very curious as we grew up in the Willamette Valley area.
He saw the creature from his car in the Central Howell area at the intersection of Silverton and Howell Prairie roads. He was with his girlfriend at the time and they saw the creature emerge from the grass field alongside the intersection road at night. Anyway, if you are interested in this, I can tell the brief story of how he described it, etc.”
We will also be speaking to Larry Baxter regarding his book, Abandoned: The History and Horror of Port Chatham, Alaska. Port Chatham, Alaska was once a busy fishing village. By 1950, every single resident had left the town, leaving it abandoned. Over the years, legends told that the residents fled because they were being terrorized by a Bigfoot-like creature the local natives called Nantiinaq. Stories of mutilated bodies, missing hunters and strange, otherworldly creatures have long been associated with Port Chatham. Retired police investigator, Larry Baxter, delves into the real-life mystery of Port Chatham and chronicles his research for the truth into one of Alaska’s most infamous legends.

My opinion only. It seems weird wit all bigfoot encounter stories it’s almost always the other witnesses have died or don’t want to talk about in fear of humiliation. First of all if you are speaking the truth their should be no fear of anything. Some stories are way too hard to believe. The say thry have pictures but rarely they share their proof just talk about it. I’m not speaking of this story I’m just generalizing.

That sentence, “if you speak the truth there should be no fear of anything,” that sentence right there tells me that you haven’t had an encounter. Because if you had, you would know about the overwhelming awe and excitement of seeing something that you’ve been told your whole life is just a legend. The very first thing you want to do is run into town and shout from the rooftops that these things are real. You’ve suddenly got this Earth shattering, mine-bending, life-changing information, and you want people to know about it, and you’re so excited to go grab the first person you see and tell them …and then you do that and you are IMMEDIATELY dismissed with laughter, or an eye roll, or some kind of condescending response. So then you think “well at least my family will believe me.” So you’re so excited to go tell your family and guess what. They laugh at you, or they call you crazy, or they ask you what were you drinking or they tell you you saw a bear. To go from having life-altering mind blowing information to the letdown of realizing that nobody believes you is devastating , and I mean devastating. After that happens time and time and time and time and time again, you realize you have a choice of just not saying anything, or getting laughed at each and every time. I wanted to tell everybody on Earth right after my encounter, and within a month, I stopped telling anybody. The only people that I talk about it nowadays with is people who have either had their own encounter, or people that I know are open to the idea before I tell them. Aside from those people, I haven’t told anybody about my story in 20 years. I got to the point to where if I heard one more person tell me that I saw a bear, one more person imply that I don’t know the difference between a damn bear and an upright walking hominid, I was going to start punching people. It is literally the most frustrating thing I have ever been through in my life, and staying quiet is frustrating, but not nearly as frustrating as telling people and have them shut you down immediately, every single time. So to say that there should be no fear as long as you’re telling the truth, sorry, but that’s just not reality. And it’s kind of a long the same lines with the pictures, people just tell you it’s a bush, or it’s a bear, or even worse. Photos are subject to the same criticism as telling people about an encounter. People are vicious. This whole subject matter is the worst that I have ever seen for people to bully other people. Maybe that’s hard to grasp unless you’ve been through it, but there’s no big mystery as to why people don’t want to share their story. It’s because they’ve tried at some point, and been humiliated. You have an encounter and you go from being on top of the world, to rock bottom as soon as you tell the very first person. Worst feeling ever.

@stephanie S – Generally speaking there are many accounts in which multiple or even all of the involved parties who were witness to the event are all living and willing to share. Across the many shows I listen to – I’ve listened to numerous stories that were collaborated on by all involved.
As far as photos and evidence, Rocky Mountain Sasquatch is a channel on YouTube that in my experience uploads a higher than average amount of photos and clips of video footage that’ve been captured and shared publicly.
