SC EP:1144 Crouching Behemoth

Tonight I will be speaking to Doug who is from Alberta Canada. John writes “My family and extended family arrived at the Wabasso Campsite the afternoon on Sunday August 7th 2022. Its important to note that the holiday fell on August 1st that year so we arrived after the long weekend rush, additionally it was a Sunday (not on a long weekend) so the campground wasn’t as busy.

Our trailer was located at the first spot (D1) on the right as you enter Loop D at the Wabasso campsite. Our family typically books this campground during this time year every year so we’re familiar with the area. My father and mother in-law as well as my brother and sister in-law along with my two nephews (6 & 8 years old at the time), joined my wife and I and our two daughters (5 & 7) for a week-long family camping trip. We had booked site D1 for my immediate family, my father and mother in-law we located directly NW of us across the roadway and my brother and sister in-law were our neighbors directly to the East of us.

After a busy first day and getting all three of our sites setup and everyone situated and fed, we decided to have a fire with the entire family at my father and mother in-laws site located directly across the roadway from our site. After the sun had set and darkness was beginning to fall, we decided to put all our children to bed at around 10:00-10:30PM. After tending to our children’s bedtime routines, we bid goodnight to our daughters, who were bubbling with excitement about our camping adventure.

They giggled and laughed as we left them snug in their beds in our trailer. My wife and I made our way across to rejoin our family around the fire. We all were sitting on one side of the fire when we rejoined the
group as there was a light wind and we were avoiding the smoke from the fire. Shortly after sitting, the light wind changed direction and I was the first to take action making the jump across the semicircle now sitting across from my entire family on the other side of the fire. This change in seating now gave me a better vantage point now looking South and in better view of our Trailer and children. Who at this point had quieted down as we could no longer hear laughter coming from our trailer, thinking they were well on their way to sleep.

As soon as I was seated and had taken in a view of our trailer, I noticed something large directly behind our trailer across the roadway. It then started moving West away from the rear of our trailer toward the entrance of the campground. Instinctively I stood up as I knew it was something large but what confused me most was the color. White or possibly slightly gray figure. Now at this time the moon had just finished cresting from behind Mt. Edith Cavell and because there was no cloud cover, the moon provided just enough ambient lighting to witness the event at this hour. According to google earth, I would put the rough distance from my vantage point to the figure at 150-175’. The creature began moving westward, away from our campsite. It appeared to be hunched over, and my gut told me it was intentionally trying to appear smaller, suggesting a keen awareness of its surroundings. Once it starting travelling West away from my trailer, I stood up and once I did the creature took notice and accelerated with such silent pace it startled me. The moment I stood up my wife and sister in-law took notice and both caught obstructed views of the creature accelerating across the terrain away from our campsite. The terrain was mostly bare and filled with deadfall for maybe 25-35 feet or more along the southern side of the roadway providing me with an unobstructed view.

The entire event occurred in 5 seconds maybe. Immediately following the event I went to check on my children. When I walked inside the trailer, both were sat up in bed frightened and were both claiming a bear or something big was outside the trailer. Dad calmed their fears, tucked them back in and returned to the fire to debate what some of us had witnessed. Both my wife and sister in-law agree it was a large albino type animal. Myself having the best vantage point, believes it was bipedal and hunched over to appear smaller as its forward limbs were not touching the ground as it accelerated and reacted to my change in behavior.

The following day I walked the path I believed it traveled but there were no tracks unfortunately. The Jasper area was very dry and had not seen hardly any rain in the days or weeks leading up to this encounter. Additionally, I also stopped in at the campsite registry and asked the park Ranger if any other campers had reported any albino animals in the area. Which they had not. I am certain this was not a bear or moose as the creature was too silent as it accelerated and moved with agility.”

John from Episode 883, if you remember he is a Nurse and had an encounter in 2020. Spoke to John and he wrote a book from eyewitness accounts in his area of Kentucky.  I invited John back to the show to discuss his new book.

Here is a like along with the description

For centuries reports of bipedal Sasquatch have captivated the public, but a lesser-known phenomenon lurks in the shadows…encounters with quadrupedal Sasquatch. These chilling sightings challenge conventional wisdom, forcing us to reconsider what we think we know about these elusive creatures. In Crouching Behemoth: Quadrupedal Sasquatch, we have the first book of its kind; it is the result of an almost three-year deep dive into spider crawls as well as walking, running, and gallops on all four limbs. Renowned anthropologist Dr. Jeff Meldrum lends his expertise in an exclusive interview, shedding light on the biomechanics and plausibility of this behavior.

While he did not fully endorse this type of maneuverability, it is very interesting in what he did say regarding the aforementioned type of behavior and more. Charlie Raymond, one of the top field researchers and founder of the KBRO in Kentucky, weighs into it as well. Besides the multitude of frankly disturbing eyewitness testimony, we will also hear from Dr. David Harmon, a distinguished physician in the treatment of PTSD and how a traumatized witness can be treated! If all this doesn’t convince you that this is definitely a different kind of Sasquatch book, you will find that although the subject matter is treated very serious, there is much humor sprinkled throughout this 400 plus page volume to lighten it up once in a while. This book is a fun, must read for Bigfoot enthusiasts, skeptics, and anyone fascinated by the intersection of science, mystery, and the human experience. This book has it all…well, almost all as the scratch and sniff Sasquatch fragrance was eliminated because I didn’t want people out there saying this book stinks. You just might like this one, folks!

We have had torrential rain here in Appalachia (N.C.) and I thought it would be fun to sit outside and listen to SC. Wes introduces John and John’s book about the ‘spider crawl’, and suddenly after the first story, I couldn’t get inside fast enough. Tonight’s show is super scary and awesome! Thank you Doug, thank you John, and thank you Wes!

Elizabeth, Hope you are safe and secure out your way. I listen to SasChron by my campfire, and like you sometimes I gotta just pack it in and go inside. At one time I lived in Asheville, NC. Loved every minute of it. You are in a beautiful state! Cheers!

@Elizabeth – same here, I live in the woods of southern Oregon, and find myself drawing the curtains closed as I often listen to SC while busy in the kitchen which opens up to a beautiful view of the woods behind us…but, you know, you start seeing things lol 👣🫢

I’ve been a Sasquatch Chronicles member since the very beginning of the show and I have to say no matter what Sasquatch/Bigfoot podcasts I listen to, there is nobody who is better than Wes and Sasquatch Chronicles.

I like that everyone has an opinion. It makes it fun for debate as long as people do get so offended. Dogs were created by artificial evolution by self selection breeding. Natural selection is by evolutionary pressures, when those pressures stop the evolution becomes stagnant. After sometime you can no longer breed with evolutionary descendants. Reproduction isolation must occur for a long time first. I did not care for that evolution expert Wes was talking too. I think we all came from slime even Bigfoot too. Have a good day everyone. I really do appreciate everyone’s opinion even if I don’t agree, it helps us grow.

John your book sounds awesome, I’m excited to go get it. It will be cool to hear what Dr Meldrum says (“So you’re saying there’s a chance!” Haha) and looking forward to the drawings. Good on you for offering your arms as a model.

    Great show Wes!

Tara: Thank you! Dr. Meldrum had a LOT to say, it spanned two chapters. One about the on all four phenomena and a second one I asked him some “off the deep end questions”, and he was a great sport to answer them. I really hope you have fun reading the book, it is big enough to get a lot of enjoyment hours out of, I think. You will find some scary sounding accounts, some other great stuff as weel as some humor here and there. Thank you.

Scott, Thank for your interest! I really hope you get hours of enjoyment reading it. I think you will find it is unlike any other book about Sasquatch you have ever seen. I tried to make it like a journey. Some of the encounters, the people were very kind to share I took the liberties with adding some information about the area in which they had their sighting. For interest, in one encounter where the witness Mike saw what he describes as a Rock Ape in Korea, he was stationed near the DMZ. I gave some background of the DMZ and Korea history and discussed that the area is a vast area untouched by man for years…what could lurk in there? Another one, I went into the discussion of meat-eating plants such as the Venus flytrap and pitcher plants. There were two couples who rented a houseboat in Minnesota and one of the women was a chef. She mentioned every meal she made on the boat, and I had to cover that too! It helps bring some of the angst of their encounter back down. Enjoy, and thank you Scott

    Hi John,
I really enjoyed listening to you and admire your spirit and determination to spend three years researching the subject and publishing a book. How cool is that! I also appreciate your sense of humor referencing the scratch and sniff Sasquatch fragrance 😂 And your compassion for the people that suffer PTSD from these encounters, which clearly comes through in your interview with Wes. Well done! I look forward to receiving my book on Saturday from Amazon. Btw Landon did a great job on the illustrations. Bravo!

Kerry! Thank you for such kind words. I really hope you enjoy the book. I think you will find, yes, a lot of serious material, but also some fun here and there. I think the interviews with Dr. Meldrum, Dr. Harmon, and Charlie Raymond had a bunch of good stuff. You should be able to laugh here and there as the book shifts gears from chapter to chapter. I think you will find it an enjoyable experience, at least that was the aim. I will tell Landon your kind words as well. Thank you kindly!

I’ve never had an encounter but I’m a believer. I’ve listened to shows like this one for a few years and I can tell people aren’t lying! M
Listening to people tell their encounters made me a believer. Just me voicing my belief in these things gets ridiculed. But I really don’t care because I think one day it will be made known just like the whole UFO “conspiracy “ that is now believed by almost everyone. Those people who spoke of ufo encounters were called crazy and now people see our own government acknowledges they exist. I can’t imagine being scared to the point of having PTSD and then being mocked, that’s just awful! 6

    John,
I look forward to reading your book soon! I love that you wrote a book on this, cuz most folks see it on two legs. I saw my first one on all fours! It was running so fast across a pasture and then right in front of our car. One leap and it was up over a 6-foot ledge and into the woods, smashing, pushing, tearing through the forest like it was a tornado! We stopped, lowered the windows, and listened to it go through the forest. We were freaking out! This happened during late afternoon, so there was plenty of daylight. We saw it very well. This was in Bullock County, Alabama. They run very, very fast on all fours with ease! I remember its back end was slightly higher than the front end. I saw the hair and it was thick on the back. The hair on the legs was flowing as it was running about 6 inches long, maybe?? It was long. This animal was as tall as our SUV and as long as one side of the road. This animal was huge!! We were just freaking out as to what it was. This happened in 2004, and I didn’t know anything about Bigfoot back then. I didn’t even think they were real. My 2nd sighting, I still didn’t know it was a Bigfoot, that’s when I found Wes. He saved my mental health! I found him while googling what shakes trees, and it was during the first few episodes that he started his podcast. I immediately became a member and a number one fan! I’ve been a member ever since. Wes saved me! Thank you for writing your book about Bigfoot being on all fours.

Cindy, First, thank you for your kind comments and interest in the book. Your sighting sounds like you had an amazing encounter! I wish I had contact with you before publishing, I would have asked you if I could interview you. Thanks for sharing!
