Patterson–Gimlin film (also known as the Patterson film or the PGF) is an American short motion picture of an unidentified subject which the filmmakers have said was a Bigfoot. The footage was shot in 1967 in Northern California, and has since been subjected to many attempts to authenticate or debunk it.

I am curious as to why this creature seemed to be taking her good ol’ time getting across the open landscape when it seems so many others, if not most other encounters involve the creature moving at unfamiliar speed to get out of sight?

(New Jersey) Jerry R, I too believe that Bob M has it right. In fact, I’ve heard others theorize the same thing. There’s no telling how many of Patty’s youngsters were hiding in the woods behind her. Perhaps even other males and female adults. Patty may have been curious as to what Bob and Roger were up to. Maybe she had never seen humans- at least up close. But after realizing they were interested in Her, she wanted to slowly walk away, and see if they’d follow her. In fact, they did! Remember though, Bob and Roger followed her for almost three miles, before she lost them. I am assuming she had picked up the pace quite a bit to loose them.

No offence, but thats just it. To me anyway its 50/50 as to weather there taking there time or getting the hell out of there. Sc’s is the perfect example of this. Some let you see them and some dont. Just an observation thats all. Excellent point on your part jerry!

Just like a wild turkey dragging a wing doesn’t run fast drawing your attention away from her nest lots of creatures do this in one form or another the others attack

Never get tired of watching Patty…thanks Wes!

I heard M.K. Davis speaking on the BDRP YouTube channel about this film. (M.K. Davis: the Bluff Creek Conspiracy part 1. Then they did a part 2, as if the first one was not bad enough) He made some really vile accusations about Patterson and Gimlin. Besides accusing them of killing many of these creatures he also said that this film had been deliberately degraded so that people would not be able to see the creature clearly. It was a horrible one sided interview of a man that was not there at the time and never met either of the men. However, the guy was said to be “an expert investigator.” I don’t know how you investigate something that happened so long ago when there were no witnesses nor physical evidence.
The thing that really sickened me about the thing was that even though no evidence was ever presented the man was allowed to shred a man’s reputation for hours. That kind of one sided viciousness is not acceptable to me. No better than gossip.
The BDRP must have had some blow back about it because later they asked anyone to come on and refute what was said but as far as I know no one ever did. I unsubscribed after hearing that pathetic video. I don’t care what subject is being addressed….if they are just going to make unsubstantiated accusations I don’t want to hear it.

Yeah, I was just going to say that this big mama seems to be having a walk in the park. You hear how fast these suckers are from eye-witnesses. But this old lady seems to go about as fast as I do–maybe she would be up for a stroll around the mall?

Yes I too agree with Bob M. With over 10k encounters I have read or heard in one form or another, they often just turn around and stroll off into the woods. Roger and Bob were so lucky that day and Roger was the right person to be there. He was a very athletic former rodeo rider, and had trained for such an event to quickly get off the horse, grab the camera out of the bag, and start filming.
In reply to Mary D observation, Patty certainly appears to be on a slow stroll, however she is traveling faster than it appears. A few years ago I obtained information from Bob Gimlin on how long this event took place and the distance she traveled. He told me it was 58 or 59 seconds and she traveled 200 yards. Simple math calculations resulted in a speed of appx. 7 mph which is way above what a human can walk. At 5 mph I am at a jog and 7 mph a slow to moderate run. Now speed walkers can go 8 mph but look at videos of this and it is most unorthodox and resembles nothing of a walk. Hips are gyrating all over the place. Yet here is Patty moving at a brisk walk that is so natural and smooth and with no head bob.

I agree with BobM’s assessment.

Ditto.

I agree also with Bob M. Thank you for this post Wes! I never grow tired of seeing this short film. It caught this little girl’s attention in the 70’s, and I am still an “arm chair investigator!”

recently on another podcast I heard a guy named John Johnson found the original film at an estate sale. It was terribly degraded, has been cut up and is worthless.
Charles R
Really, what a shame. Did not the original end up with Renee Dahindren? I know Patricia Patterson had original copies(s) stored away in a safe place. She lent one to Bill Munns to do his stabilized copy of it and ensuing research that proved to him a biological creature with features outside that of a human.
