Having lived in the country most of my life, I have sadly seen sick or injured animals passing through. I know that these creatures are nearer to us than most people realize and that you don’t have to go to the beautiful and massive mountains of the PNW to see one. My sighting was 150 feet from my home, it was in my neighbors back yard. I look at the spot where I saw it often and think, stay away from us.
I have read studies that chimpanzees are susceptible to some human viruses yet, tended to show weaker symptoms than humans do. I surmise it is possible these creatures could be susceptible as well. I wonder if the decrease of human activity and quiet will peak their sense of curiosity or their sense of safety to come closer.
I am very aware of my impact on wildlife and keep my yard free of hazards and garbage and can’t help but think, what could I do if I saw it again and it was sick? A ten foot tall, thousand pound, feverish mass of muscle…
I feel it is crazy to worry of such a thing…Sure it is. But, I also feel crazy about everything right now. My sighting was incredulous and what is happening with this virus is also incredulous, both are very real though and hard to grasp.
Praying for the world right now.

It is difficult to know for sure, but I would suspect they are susceptible to human virus and bacteria. About 10 years ago I theorized that the westward expansion of humans probably decimated Bigfoot populations due to the smallpox, same as it did to the the native populations and the white populations also. We know the Bigfoot live much closer to human population than originally thought some years ago and they surely raided farms in the 17 and 18 hundreds making it possible to come into human disease contact.

We have been told the lowland gorillas are very susceptible to our colds and pneumonia a and this virus seems to be right down this line. If they are we will be able to hear them in the forests around our homes, and, if it is as fatal to them as it is to us bodies should start to be found soon.
