A listener writes “I live in Pennsylvania, Bucks County, outside Quakertown, on a property that abuts State Game Lands. We are not necessarily rural–about 5 mins from anything but away from everything if that makes sense. We moved to our property 8 years ago and my son at that time was 5. A couple years after moving in, he was out collecting clay from downed tree stumps and came running in the house to tell me there was a big thing standing behind our boulder field behind the house, watching him. He had dropped his bucket and run back to the house. I pressed him a little to understand and he said it was dark and tall. I walked back there and got his bucket and proceeded to the boulder he pointed to. He didn’t realize on the other side of that boulder, the ground was lower–which would have made it somewhere around 9 or 10 feet tall. I honestly gave it up to his imagination at work and didn’t think anything of it. That was like late spring.
Fast forward to this year.
We had not had any weird things happening around the property at all. We have a 9 year old Cavalier/Beagle mix who loves to go out and run around in our fenced in yard. She patrols it and barks at everything from deer to leaves. I usually let her out in the middle of the night once or twice and she tears off into the fenced in yard when the door opens. In early February or March, we got up like we did every night and went to the door. We have large glass patio doors. I opened the door and stepped back to let her out. She stepped to the threshold and immediately went flat to the floor and backed up. It was odd. I turned on the light and looked out into the radius of the light (about 50 feet around) and saw nothing. However, I noticed immediately that the sounds of the night were gone. It was almost oppressively silent. I stepped out onto the porch and looked around and saw nothing. She wouldn’t cross the threshold. I took her by the collar and pulled her onto the porch and then went down the 4 steps to the patio so she could step into the grass to do her thing. She skulked down the steps and stepped into the grass immediately off the porch, did her thing quickly and bolted back inside, hiding under the bed covers. I looked around, saw nothing, and backed my way up the steps and inside, closing the door, turning off the lights and drawing the drapes.
What made me react that way was an experience in late December 2023 early January 2024.
We had gone out for the evening to see a show and got back to our property around 9 pm. It was pitch black outside, illuminated only by the car’s headlights. We live down about a 1/4 mile private lane with the next houses about 200 yards away in both directions, all separated by trees and such. That particular night, we had not left the driveway lights on since we didn’t intend to be so late. We have a double lane driveway and the parking spot for the car we were driving was closest to the porch. My car was parked in the outside lane next to our grass field and we had two large rectangular trash bins standing just off the driveway on a stone covered area. They stand about 4′ tall and are each about 3′ wide. They were sitting side by side. As our car pulled into the driveway and got close to the garage, the light from the headlights hit the white front of the garage and spread out across the double lanes, just enough to illuminate the front of the trash cans. As I hit the brake to stop, out of my peripheral vision I saw something move just at the line of light on the side of the driveway with the cans. I turned my head in time to see….well, something. What I saw was about 3-4′ tall based on the trash cans. I only saw it bending down to the ground and walking the short 2′ from behind the garbage cans to the darkness of the side of the garage. It was a cinnamon brown color, kind of like an Irish Setter or King Louie from the Jungle Book. I saw an arm and the side of the back which would have been this thing’s left side. I did not see a head. The hair was wispy and thick on the upper part of the arm but seemed to thin and disappear as it went lower. The hair on the torso was similar in that it was probably 4-6″ in length, wispy, same color. It moved sort of like I have seen a jaguar move its legs but it was odd. And it was gone in a matter of seconds. I jumped out of the car and turned on my phone flashlight, running over to the side of the garage expecting to see a dog, a bear, something….there was nothing there. Literally nothing. I looked at the ground with the light and saw no footprints. I walked beside the garage to the back and glanced around, nothing was there. From the side of the garage to the tree line is like 60′. Whatever this was seemed to cover that in about 5 to 6 seconds. My wife said she did not see it. I know I saw something. I just don’t understand what I saw. No one on our lane has an Irish Setter. I have never seen a bear on our property, much less brown bears aren’t common in PA.
When I heard the geocaching story, it brought me back to that moment. I haven’t thought about it all that much since, but it was a weird experience. I have never seen anything in the area like it again. We have also not had another night of that oppressive silence.”

Hey neighbor,I live on a farm outside. New Hope. There’s a cross- road of migratory pathways here and an underground cave system. At this time of year it usually becomes very active.
