Its face was mostly hairless, with pale, ash colored skin

A listener writes “About a month ago, during Father’s Day weekend, my wife, my son, and I went for a hike on one of our favorite trails behind our local park. The trail winds up to a beautiful waterfall, and we’ve hiked it many times before.

On our way back down, we stopped to take a short break. It didn’t take long for all of us to notice how unusually quiet the woods had become. It wasn’t the normal peaceful silence it felt unnaturally still. My wife and son were facing down the trail toward the trailhead, while I turned around to scan the woods behind them because I had the distinct feeling that we were being watched.

As I looked into the trees, I caught a glimpse of a large, dark figure on all fours bounding from behind one tree to another. It covered roughly 30 yards in what seemed like an impossibly short amount of time. I should mention that I’ve been listening to your show for several years, and one thing I always struggled to understand was when guests described these creatures as “spider walking.” I could never quite picture what they meant until that moment.

It wasn’t literally spider like. The best way I can describe it is that it appeared to be driving itself forward with its powerful hind legs while using its arms to pull itself along in long, incredibly fast strides. The movement was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

I only had a brief look at the creature, but I was able to make out several details. It had a lean yet heavily muscular build and was covered in dark black hair. Its face was mostly hairless, with pale, ash colored skin. Its hands were also mostly hairless, with long, very human looking fingers. Its eyes appeared either black or an extremely dark brown, and they were noticeably large and round.

Two things stood out more than anything else. The first was its speed. It crossed about the same distance from one tree to the next as it was from the tree to where my family was standing. The realization hit me that if it had decided to charge my wife or son, it could have reached them before I had any chance to react. That thought still bothers me.

The second thing was its mouth. It was extraordinarily wide. On a human, a mouth of the same proportions would have stretched nearly from ear to ear. It was unlike anything I had ever seen on a person or any known animal.

I stood frozen for a few moments. Not wanting my wife and son to realize how shaken I was and risk frightening them as well I calmly suggested we continue down the trail. I had them walk in front of me while I stayed behind, constantly looking over my shoulder because I couldn’t shake the feeling that whatever I had seen was still following us.

The feeling remained over my left shoulder the entire walk back to the truck. A couple of times, I could have sworn I saw what looked like a head peeking out from behind a tree. It never seemed to get any closer or farther away, staying at roughly 30 yards the entire time. What unsettled me even more was that I never once heard it moving through the woods.

I’d love the opportunity to talk with you about this experience in more detail. I also have a few other encounters from past hikes and hunting trips that I’d be willing to share. If you have any questions, I’d be happy to provide as much detail as I can remember.”
