It Used Its Hands To Drink Water

A listener writes “Me and my x with a couple of friends went fishing on the Snoqualmie River in WA state in late August in the late afternoon. We went to the Ames lake bridge which is just past the Carnation Farm’s on the way to the town of Carnation which is where we lived at the time.

I grew up in Newport Beach CA. We spent many summers camping in the mountains and northern Ca. The summer I spent in Humboldt county should have made me a Bigfoot believer but I didn’t think it was real. My X was a very frightened believer and it gave me many opportunities to tease him about his monster. When we first got to WA state he had a hard time as we moved to Redmond in 1978 and we lived in one of the first neighborhood’s on the hill on the Eastside of lake Sammamish, my parents bought one of the first house’s complete in Sahalie so our neighbors were pretty limited and we were surrounded by woods. We moved to Carnation WA a few months later. Of course the culture shock was extreme.

I thought it was a cruel joke plucking a 17 yr old off the beach and plopping her in the middle of the forest. So moving to the itty bitty town of Carnation was even more of a shock. I didn’t understand small town culture so finding friends was a challenge. My ex found friend’s much faster than me so I ended up hanging out with a bunch of guys for the first 6 months in Carnation.

When we got to the river, we made a spot under the bridge. They started drinking beer and the longer we fished the louder they got. I didn’t like to drink so I was the only sober one. So this being my first summer in WA I was totally enamored with how pretty the Alder’s were, it sparkled like diamonds when the breeze came. So my gaze lowered as I caught some movement across the river at the base of the trees. I had to squint my eyes to see what it was, then it very casually walked from the tree line to the river. I still didn’t know what it was but I knew that it was not anything I knew of. It squatted down at the river bank and the sun pretty much lit it up so I had a very clear view of it.

So I just stared at it and it used its hands to drink water and it was about that time I had a very good idea what it was. I turned to the Guy’s to look but quickly realized the guys I was with would go chase it. I looked back at it not knowing what to do and then it looked up and over at it then we got eye contact. The fear hit me like nothing I had experienced before. Then all I wanted to do was go home badly. So I made a big hissy fit yelling at them and picking up my stuff and started walking to the car. The guy’s did not understand why I was all of the sudden so upset. When I looked back it had not moved, it was just staring at us. I was really freaking out and was yelling at them from the car. I could still see it from the car. I just got louder.

I really was going to start walking home by then as they were not moving fast enough. Now I never could tell them and I was praying that they didn’t see it. Looking back on it why didn’t they see it and why on earth did it not care about the loud guys I was with. It was huge and was dark red hair and a dark face with a flatter nose. It’s covered with hair that looks clean and shiny. It didn’t make any noise. I finally got the guys to take me home. I told them when I felt safe at home what I saw and to no surprise they went back looking for it. After that I was not happy about camping and tried everything to get out of it. Even when I walked my dogs in the woods I was not comfortable. Every Time I was in the woods I had that sinking feeling. I think it is an animal I have had my share of paranormal stuff so to me it is a living animal and from what I saw there’s nothing paranormal just abnormal from anything that I have seen.

I just started talking about it with people in my family as I didn’t want to look nuts, I was complaining about my haunted house at the time, throwing out my Bigfoot experience wasn’t going to help me in any way. So I just didn’t talk about it. Over 40 years later I no longer care about what people think of me. The funny thing I got from it was my ability to paint landscapes improved immensely. That’s kind of an odd take away from this experience. Maybe the experience was so ingrained in my mind that it made it easier to paint the details of the scenery. I don’t know if that was the reason my art improved so much but the timing was quite the coincidence for me.”
