Everything Went Silent

A listener writes ” I just wanted to share with you an incident that happened to me, my wife and my father in June of I think it was 2019. I was raised in Twin Lakes, Colorado which is about 30 miles south of Leadville.

When I was 14 my dad moved the family to Denver but we still would go camping every year for a couple weeks in Twin Lakes.

We have always heard sounds but have never seen anything. Mainly weird howls and chatter. Always at night. This time we were all hiking along a mountain side working our way to an old sawmill from the 1920’s that’s been gone for a long time. We started to cross a snow chute and out of nowhere the wind stopped and it got deathly quiet. No birds. No wind. No bugs. Nothing. Just silence. My dad always told me that when that happens, it means your being watched. We stopped dead in our tracks and looked at each other. I told my dad and wife to calmly look around. See if there is something watching us.

After about 5 minutes of that we heard wood knocks up the mountain. Maybe 50′ from us. Kinda like Morse code. 3 short 2 long. Went on for a full minute. I hollered up the mountain with no response. Then everything came back to life. The wind, bugs and birds chirping like someone hit the play button. The next day my wife and I went walking around near an old mine and we heard a helicopter overhead and it sounded low. Very loud. Over the noise we heard a clear as day. A loud WHOOOP. 2 Or 3 whoops. We didn’t want to find out what it was. We turned around on our heels and went back to camp.

Keep doing what you do Wes. I love listening to your show. Thank you!
