Comparison Of The Ohio Howl VS The Maine Howl

The Ohio Howl was recorded by Matt Moneymaker in late autumn of 1994, in Columbiana County, Ohio, near the Ohio River. In 2012 a listener sent me a howl he captured in Maine. The listener from Maine writes “I recorded it on an iPad2, the recording doesn’t do it justice on how loud it was. You will have to turn up the volume to hear it. It howls twice one after the other.”

Sounds very much like the one I heard July 4th time frame of 2011 in the Huron National Forest, Sand lake region at night. It really carried a long distance, at least a mile and probably much more. I knew exactly what it was and got quite excited out on the porch of my sister’s lake cabin about 2am. That BFRO CVNP howl is pretty good. Thanks for posting TOO MUCH.

Sounds mournful to me, Maybe lonely, But I have heard recordings of two or three diffrent ones howling at the same time from diffrent spots, Maybe it is a death announcement when more than one howls at the same time
