A listener writes “My experiences take place in Yelm, Washington, where I currently live at the base of the Bald Hills near Lawrence Lake. I’m 41 now, but my first encounter happened when I was just 14.

At the time, my family lived in a 3,200-square-foot rambler on 10 acres of land. Our home sat in the middle of the property with a long paved driveway. My parents occasionally went to the casino in the evenings, and I would stay home with my identical twin brother, who was severely handicapped. He couldn’t walk or talk, but he was very easy to care for—especially at night, since we’d just go to sleep.

One particular night, I stayed up late watching TV in the living room, which was on one end of our long, narrow house. The back of the house bordered several acres of wetlands. Around midnight, I started getting tired and decided to turn the TV off, thinking it was keeping me awake. I lay down on the couch and, within five minutes, began to hear a noise near the back door by the hot tub room.

It sounded like someone—or something—was messing with the door handle. A few seconds later, the door suddenly slammed open and hit the wall. I wasn’t a tough kid, so I pulled the blankets over my head in fear. We had hardwood floors, and I clearly heard heavy footsteps coming toward me. I was frozen. The steps grew louder and quicker until whatever it was stood right over me.

I could hear it breathing—deep, heavy breaths—and then came the most terrifying sound I’ve ever heard in my life. It was like a howl, a deep scream, and a growl all rolled into one, and it lasted for about 10 seconds. I didn’t move. I barely breathed. Every muscle in my body was locked in fear. After a minute or two, it went completely silent—but I never heard it leave.

I stayed frozen for about 30 more minutes before I finally worked up the nerve to get up. I ran to the kitchen, flipped on the light, and grabbed a butcher’s knife—not that it would’ve helped much, but it made me feel a little safer. Then I remembered my brother and realized I’d have to go down the hallway—toward the hot tub room—to check on him. As I started in that direction, headlights flashed through the windows. My parents were home.

I told them everything. My dad seemed shaken—almost like he understood there are unexplained things in this world. My mom, on the other hand, brushed it off and suggested it was just a cougar.

Later that year, my dad shared a story about seeing strange lights on the property. That moment stuck with me.

Years passed. I moved out at 18, met my now-wife, and we had three kids. After the housing market shifted, we sold our home and bought the house I grew up in from my mom, who was getting older and found the upkeep too much. My dad had passed by then.

One morning, my oldest son—who was about 8 at the time—went out to feed the dog and came running back into the house in tears. He said he’d heard a screaming sound coming from the woods. I wasn’t home, but my wife was able to calm him down. She didn’t think much of it.

I’ve spent years trying to find a recording that matches the sound I heard. I’ve listened to countless YouTube clips, but none really come close—until one day I played a video titled “Strange Sound While Mushroom Hunting” in the kitchen. As soon as it started, my son stopped in his tracks, his face went pale, and he looked at me. It wasn’t an exact match, but it was close enough that we both felt it in our bones.

I believe it’s still here. Our Great Pyrenees seems to keep it at bay, but I still feel its presence from time to time.”

Salish Sasquatch writes “Come with us to Skamania County, Washington, as we spend a week in Bigfoot country! We have a lot to share in this episode.”

Mount Adams is a stratovolcano located in the Cascade Range of Washington, United States. Standing at 12,276 feet, it is the second-highest mountain in Washington and a prominent feature within the Cascade Volcanic Arc, which formed as a result of the subduction of the Juan de Fuca Plate beneath the North American Plate.

Adams is near two more-frequently erupting neighbors, Mount St Helens and Mount Rainier. It has twelve named glaciers descending its slopes.

I hope Americans are enjoying the day off. Labor Day in the United States began as part of the labor movement in the late 19th century, during a time when industrial workers were fighting for better working conditions, fair pay, and reasonable hours. Here’s the background:

Origins

  • Industrial Struggles: In the 1800s, American workers often toiled 12+ hours a day, 6–7 days a week, in unsafe factories, mines, and railroads. Child labor was also widespread.

  • Labor Unions Rise: As unions formed, they began organizing strikes and demonstrations to demand reforms.

The First Labor Day

  • September 5, 1882: The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City, organized by the Central Labor Union. Around 10,000 workers marched, took the day off without pay, and demonstrated solidarity.

  • The idea spread quickly among other cities and states.

Becoming a National Holiday

  • May Day vs. Labor Day: Internationally, labor protests and strikes were associated with May 1st (May Day), especially after the Haymarket Affair in Chicago (1886), where a labor rally turned violent. But U.S. leaders, worried May Day was linked to socialism and radicalism, wanted a different holiday to honor workers.

  • 1894 Pullman Strike: A violent nationwide railroad strike broke out, leading to clashes between federal troops and workers that killed more than 20 people. To ease tensions and recognize workers’ contributions, President Grover Cleveland and Congress rushed to make Labor Day a federal holiday.

  • June 28, 1894: Labor Day was officially declared a national holiday, celebrated on the first Monday in September.

Meaning

Labor Day was meant to celebrate the achievements of American workers, honor the labor movement, and provide a day of rest. Over time, it also came to symbolize the “end of summer” in U.S. culture, with parades, barbecues, and events.

History of Labor Day

Reports of White Yowies in Queensland are far from a recent phenomenon. Locations such as D’Aguilar National Park, ESK, Karawatha, Kilcoy, Leyburn, and Mapleton have all contributed accounts over the years. Notably, these sightings even garnered attention in the 1942 Australia & New Zealand Monthly magazine.

Yowie Witness Mapleton QLD

On April 28, 2021, NABC team members did an onsite investigation on the outskirts of Stevenson, WA with a witness who observed a sasquatch from 12 feet away. The witness, who shall remain anonymous, tells his story on camera. Shortly thereafter, a discovery is made at the site.

A Sighting in Skamania County

I will be speaking to Joel. Joel writes “Sending this from my iPhone so forgive any typos. I emailed years ago about a couple of experiences I have had. The reason why I labeled the subject cursed or blessed is due to the fact of several unusual encounters in the state of Georgia. My first happened when I was around 15 or 16, with my cousin.

But Will circle back to that later in my story, my visual encounter happened in April of 2001 with my family. We were traveling to Hilton Head from Atlanta. We had left early in the morning around 5:30 am, we wanted to catch the first ferry to Daufuskie island. We made good time due to low traffic and were heading down I 16 in east Georgia, I know the area well since we have hunting property in Adrian Ga. (Permission to hunt) we were just east of Vidalia Ga, heading towards the coast in very light traffic. I was in my truck with my wife, and my parents were in the their SUV following us. We were pretty much side by side coming to an area of I 16 where the median widens due to the area. We were coming down a slight decline, I was in the fast lane my parents in the right lane, there were 2 cars in front of me and semi in the right lane in front of my parents. I can still remember the color of the cars and the make of the lead car, a silver or light grey ford Taurus.

The semi in the right was an older Peter built or long nose Mac blue in color. Any ways we were a hundred yards are so behind the Taurus and the semi, we were coming into a heavily wooded marsh area. As we came down the hill I saw a figure come out of the swamp/marsh from the south crossing the east bound lanes, this figure bounded up the embankment in a split second and crossed right in front of the semi, and within 2 to 3 steps cleared 2 lanes. ( I would mention we could see the head over the nose of the semi as it crossed) Both the semi and the Taurus slammed on their brakes, as did the car behind the Taurus.

I can still remember the fluid movement of how this figure crossed, it was dark in color from head to toe, and seemed to be covered in hair. As it crossed I saw it disappear into the median which is heavily wooded and was more or less a marshland. As my wife and I looked at each other in disbelief, my cell phone rang, it was my mom and her first words were did you see that and what was that? My immediate response was I don’t know, and what did you see? By now I was catching up to the Semi, I leaned down and looked up at the truck driver and mouthed what was that with my hands up? I can still remember his face and expression, he had both hands on the wheel, almost whited knuckled he looked at me eyes wide opened and just shrugged his shoulders. As we drove my wife and I kept questioning it and how fast it moved.

I only saw it cross east bound lanes but my wife watched it come out the median on the west bound lanes and move up another embankment and disappear into the woods. I can tell you we got to the Ferry and headed to the island, once at our cottage it was the topic of the day. My parents being devout Christians don’t believe in Bigfoot or other unusual phenomena, but after questioning my mom, she had no explanation or logical answer, based on the speed or movement. This being my only visual encounter I have had 3 other instances in my life that I can’t explain. Let me say that the first occurrence happened while night fishing in rural Georgia, Buchanan to be more precise. My cousin and a family friend were night fishing in a John boat on a small pond, around 11 or 12 pm. We had something scream at us from below the dam, and then we heard something crash through the woods coming towards us. Now my cousin and his friend grew up in the country and lived in the woods. They both seemed panicked by the noise, as we heard it come up the dam and hit the top of the dam, we could hear clear footsteps moving across. We immediately started paddling back to shore, I had an old Coleman lantern that I was holding up, as we moved back to shore.

The whole time we could hear this thing moving around the pond towards us at a fast pace. We hit the shore jumped out of the John boat and ran to the truck. We jumped in the truck and took off, my cousins house was just a few miles down the road, and we went in and really didn’t talk about it. The next day I had to ask what he thought it was, my cousin said it had to be a bobcat or a mountain lion. (There had been rumors of a black large cat in the area at that time). And that was the last we spoke about it for decades, it wasn’t till a few years ago my cousin now in his 50’s as well as me said something at thanksgiving dinner. He looked at me at said you remember that night fishing with our friend, he looked me in the eye and said that was no cat it was something way bigger. Now I will tell you he is a Baptist preacher and I have asked him multiple times what he thought it may be, and he just says I don’t know.”

Strange Familiars writes “First, Donald and Dennis continue sharing their paranormal encounters, including disembodied voices, out of body experiences, UFOs, and more. Next, we present audio recorded at the cabin in Schuylkill County where we saw unexplained lights, shadow people, and a creepy black form at the edge of the woods which seemed to fade in and out of sight. The next morning , Timothy is awakened in a very weird way.”

Strange Familiars: The Fading Black Form

Homo habilis (“handy man”) is an extinct early human species that lived in Africa about 2.4 to 1.4 million years ago. It is one of the earliest members of the genus Homo and is thought to represent a transitional form between earlier human-like species (Australopithecus) and later humans like Homo erectus.

Here are the key points about Homo habilis:

  • Name meaning: “Handy man” — given because fossils were found with stone tools, suggesting they were among the first toolmakers.

  • Time period: Lived about 2.4–1.4 million years ago.

  • Where they lived: Eastern and Southern Africa (notably Tanzania, Kenya, and South Africa).

  • Brain size: Larger than earlier hominins (~510–600 cubic cm), though smaller than modern humans (~1,350 cc).

  • Body: Short, with long arms; height ~3–4 feet (about 1–1.3 meters). Their body still showed apelike features but with more human-like hands capable of fine manipulation.

  • Diet: Likely omnivorous — ate plants, meat, and may have scavenged or hunted small animals.

  • Importance: Considered one of the first species in the Homo lineage, playing a role in the evolutionary step toward more advanced humans.

A listener writes “I’ve been listening to you for a while now. I’ve started an email to you several times but never followed through with sending. I’ve never told anyone about my encounter with the exception of my wife and I didn’t tell her details. Just that I had seen a Sasquatch when I was a kid.

My encounter happened in central Virginia when I was nine years old in 1982. It seems like yesterday because I remember every detail. I grew up in a suburban neighborhood but there were hundreds of acres of forest behind my house. There were motorcycle trails and game trails. My friends and I would go back in these woods to play and smoke cigarettes. I went back one evening right before dusk by myself. I was setting on a long just off of one of the game trails when this thing startled me by seemingly appearing out of nowhere.

I was absolutely terrified but I couldn’t scream. In fact I couldn’t move. Funny thing about it is I knew what I was I knew immediately that I was seeing a Bigfoot. Or in my young mind the one and only Bigfoot! I immediately remembered episode the Mutual of Omahas Wild Kingdom where Marlin Perkins said that Bigfoot and the abdominal snowman did not exist. I told myself that I was going to call him and let him know that it does exist!! Anyway, the whole story would take a long time to tell and I’d love to talk to you about it.”

“Ghosts of Lovers Leap” refers to the legend of ghosts haunting numerous real-world locations named Lover’s Leap, or more specifically, an episode of the paranormal TV show Paranormal Portals that featured the ghost of Jane Riley at Albion Falls, Canada, in 2004. The legends typically involve heartbroken lovers who jump from a cliff to their deaths, with the ghosts and paranormal phenomena persisting at the site.
