Truely Sad but Awesome report from long ago, makes you think, are these creatures just forest people or cannibals waiting to catch us alone and devour the poor unsuspecting nature lover…
I don’t buy it Karen. From the many encounters I’ve read about, it seems these creatures prefer to live their lives on their own terms. I think they are very wary of humans, but don’t seek to harm or eat us!! They are known to kill dear, hogs, etc for food. However, humans do not seem to be part of their diet. Lucky for us!!
This is an actual story, but happened to the Kiowa and not Choctaw, it happened before the white man was in the area, and was not about them cannibalizing children, it was about them stealing, and often not returning, native (Kiowa) women! It was not one incident, they literally went to war with these monsters and drove them pout of their territory. A Children’s book author (pen named Tuklo Nashoba) converted this oral tradition into a tale with one dramatic incident, rather than the war it actually was.
There is no way in hell this tale is even remotely true. Your version Duke is probably much closer to the truth. My ancestors were over the border in the Ozarks of Missouri, although many migrated to Michigan in the late 30s and early 40s to seek employment at Dow Chemical. I remember my Aunts from Missouri using the phrase to come in before dark so the boogyman does not get you. It has only been in recent years that I found the boogyman was really the Sasquatch. Just maybe this reasoning was based on women and children abductions at that time – who knows.
Going back to the theory of Small Pox decimating the Sasquatch population during the westward migration, perhaps the males needed human women ( due to dwindling number of females ) to mate with in order to continue their population during this time.
This is the la fleur incident. Long after European contact (350 plus years), after the trail of tears relocated tribes to Oklahoma. These creatures are not benign, especially in that part of the country.
Yes, this is the La Flores battle. They had Buffalo Rifles which were made in 1845 till the late 1880’s. The County was named after La Flores in Eastern Oklahoma..They are indeed cannabol Monsters, at least this type of BF were. There are different types, some more ape and some more human..Wes had an episode on this incident before..It is very true…
