The Australian version of these things sound like they are nothing nice. Again they are referred to as giant cannibals that steal the children to eat and tear the heads off of men…

Australia broke off of Pangea 200 million years ago. The end Triassic period. Are we to assume yowies were on that chunk of land at the time? That seems impossible. So how did they get there? The Indonesian and Papuan New Guinea island chain seems like the only possible explanation, but I don’t know enough about the history of sea levels to really validate the point any further. Does anyone know of a sea level precident that could explain how the hell they got there? Oh ya, this is assuming that we are dealing with a primate so let’s hold off on explanations that are outside of science just for the sake of this particular argument.

Torres Straight is what you’re looking at; an Island Chain and Reef System. Not so much a “Land Bridge” but there were periods of connection. One Species you might look at is the Cassowary. They are flightless bird yet they inhabit Indonesia Islands and Papua and Northern Australia (The Tropical bits anyway) Alot of other Flora and fauna are common to both but Id have to look it up.
