A listener writes “One night my brother in law and me took off exploring different areas, well we ended up outside Nevada city on a little winding heavily wooded road with lots of bush’s and tundra ,ending up at a camp ground entrance that was closed for the Winter.
We continued a mile or so along campground site’s till the last campsite then parked there with the vans back to the lake, anyway I took off right away to the left of the lake were these campsites had ended.
A very large bullfrog was croaking in tall reed’s that went out to a point, It must of been around early September as the Frog’s were still out and it was quite warm, Any way I started very quietly and slowly crouching low approaching the croaking Bull Frog after about 5 minutes of moving very slowly a large hairy creature stood up and ran out of the reed’s were the Frog was and on to a white sandy beach were he stood out in the full moon,with picnic benches aside the creature,hence showing its size in comparison, and off into the woods and up a very steep bushy hill making loads of noise and that’s when my brother in law came over to were I was and heard the creature running up hill threw the bushes.
Its too bad we didn’t stay there till morning light but were in fear of getting caught. This happened about 1989, but I never said anything much till reading of William Barns and his encounter around the same area a few year’s later and his seriousness about finding out about this creature that many claim doesn’t exist but has been seen.”

Was the creature the one croaking?…. or was the creature hunting frogs also? Thats definitely a different encounter…….

When the creature ascended the hill he said it made a lot of noise . Was it vocal or bush breaking ! Also . I don’t know about anyone else but when I’m observing in a lot of moonlight things REALLY seem close! seemingly closer than in alot of other light sources . I would have list my mind !! Where was the local? On another note. Trespassing back then was very shoot shovel and shut up. Today people at least concider prosecution before the run off trespassers . So I completely understand his desire to beat feet . Did he concider returning later to investigate? Evidence and such? Ty for sharing just the same

I live in this area, would love to know what lake and campground. Although I don’t know of any area that I would describe as tundra.

Rich A, yes to Nevada City CA. William Barnes had his encounter on the Greenhorn River which is geographically close to NC.

I used to live near there in Grass Valley and used to always go 4×4 up in the Greenhorn access near Rough and ready road, there is a lot of unused forest back there and it always had an weird feel to it- very quiet in there and the only thing to remind a person that man has been there is all of the old rusted placer mining equipment half buried in the earth.
