1907, Black Creek Wilderness, Mississippi, Wildman Killed By Falling Rocks

1907, Ethelbert Bogue writes a letter to the newspaper in which he claims to have killed the infamous Black Creek Wildman. The letter reads as follows:

“Dear Editor,

timpeeler2While walking in a dense and remote ares of the wilderness last week, I came upon a large pile of scat. Upon examination a wildman over eight feet tall came at me with ill intentions. I beat upon him with my sturdy walking staff. In the scuffle some rocks were dislodged. They and the wildman fell into a ravine. The wildman was crushed and broken. I am sure he was killed in the fall. Upon further examination, I my hypothesis was confirmed. So please alert all those citizens still fearful of the supposed Wildman of Black Creek, that I, Etherlbert Bogue, can account for his existence and subsequent demise.”

Days before his own death in 1915, Bogue still told the same story, never once changing a fact. Nor was the wildman ever seen or heard from again.

I’m sure something that heavy would get hurt fatally if falling a distance on rocks. I used to not think anything of being on my roof over the courtyard concrete …now older and less flexible my body weight would be a problem falling ten feet on concrete. Not the fall it’s the sudden stop.

I’m pretty sure if the “wild man” was a BF, it would have taken Ethelbert’s sturdy walking stick from him and used it as a suppository on Ethelbert. Sorry Ethelbert, your BS story should have been burried with you.

Reading this ecounter made me think of yoda banging on R2D2 with his walking stick …. lol the Squatch probably was stuned by seeing this little twerp go at him and backed up a step or two and fell to its death. Thank God it wasnt mating season or the story would have been man gets raped by huge Wildman after man walked into Wildmans bathroom.

Doesn’t even sound remotely possible against one of these things, people with guns can’t seem to kill one and to think a stick and a fall, I think the guy made up the story to settle the locals down, but who knows? Just my gut feeling

I have to agree with the Roberts. Kinda like that one story where the Wildman ripped the man out of his carriage n started beating on him in front of his daughter. His daughter picked up a rock n pelted the Wildman with it and he took off. I don’t think it was the rock hurting him that made it take off, I think it was the unexpected reaction of the girl throwing the rock that made him take off

Just like all the stories can’t be false all of them can’t be true either. Believe the older stories soo much more when they have multiple witnesses however. Seems to me if this “booger” was terrorizing the town a few of the menfolk would have went to check out the location of the body.
