Woman and daughter recall their close daytime encounter at their home

Randolph County, West Virginia

It was January 2005 and I was living in Job, WV with my daughter who was five years old at the time. I was renting the house which was a little ways from the road. It was about 3:30pm and I was walking down the long drive way to meet my daughter to get off the school bus. It had been snowing the night before and it was cold out with a few flurries. Well as I got to the end of the drive way the bus came and stopped and I went across the street to get my little girl off the bus and I turned around and at first was talking to my daughter I didn’t look straight ahead in front of me but when I looked up I noticed a very large brown figure standing below my porch which was second story and as I walked up holding my daughter’s hand it just stood there staring at first I couldn’t figure out what it was I have been in WV all my life and had seen many bear, bobcats and even a cougar.

So I knew this was not any of these and it was standing at least eight foot tall with man like features it had kind of a flat nose its eyes were shaped like an owls and it blinked several times it didn’t move the whole time we were walking to the other side of my porch to go up the steps. In fact we even looked down on it from the upstairs porch. My daughter threw some pebbles down and it still didn’t move we didn’t stay outside to see when it walked off but I will never forget what I saw I haven’t seen anything else like it since. I had felt very uneasy there since I moved in sometimes I would hear knocking on the hill behind my house or strange whomping noises.

I wonder if ‘ignorance is bliss’ even pertains to this encounter… I would love to hear in depth just what was going through the heads of Mum/Daughter in this instance… wow… Thanks for the post

    Hello,

Again we have another encounter where a Sasquatch is by children and women. If Sasquatch watches us, which I do, makes me wonder if this one knew the girl was coming off the bus. No matter what I feel their motives are at the very least suspicious and tend to make me think sinister.

I want to encourage anyone who has had encounters in the midwest: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, or Ontario to post or contact Wes. I know seeing a Sasquatch in these areas leads to a lot of ridicule and I suspect they act somewhat different from other parts of the country, but they do live in these areas.

You have it right Robert V. Where the children and women are (especially without a man at times) one should not be surprised to find a Sasquatch lurking nearby.

Keeping in mind that people can’t usually tell what they are seeing until they have gotten close enough. Then its too late and they operate on their senses, gut feeling, and so on. I note that he is unafraid to be seen in this encounter when it only could have gone one of two ways.

Notice how he has placed himself near the porch and point of entry to the house, and never made a move or action of threat. (he can’t go to the bus stop, he would be seen ) He’s quiet, no vocalism, he simply stood, watched and waited as they approached. And he knows that he has seen this time and again. He knows about the activity going on around this home. Forget the human desire for privacy, he’s calculated that this is an important daily task and most likely has counted himself a part of it. After much watching, finally he lets her know that he’s aware of what is supposed to happen around this home and that his attention is on it. (Has he adopted this family?) Possibly, or at least guarding it. How much? Only his presence and frequency will tell, but rarely seen and keeping to his own is a better sign in my book.

He’s been watching and probably for some time. Now comes forward the test to see that its alright. Does she really have a choice… women and children are not as inclined to run him off. And try running away with a small child in your arms when everything is slowed motion.

I can see many thoughts are going through her mind, but so as not to panic the child she handles it. Once inside the panic will most likely set in over the next few days and she will take action to run down a security checklist. Even if she immediately got into a vehicle to leave the home, she will not panic her child since that can prove harmful.

So what does he think he’s doing, taking the place of man?

One of his primary jobs in his circle of family is defending and standing guard and he may be showing off that he does his job well. I think Sas can have as many women and children as he can handle, but in our world this isn’t logical. And there is the clash that he doesn’t get easily. The differences.

Much as I hate to say it, he has no problem taking or stealing what doesn’t belong to him, sometimes to include women and children of all ages. And you can bet that no one should ever mess with her or child while he’s around… feeling all Alpha like. There is no gray area for these creatures, only black and white until or unless.. as Bob Garrett said, you run into one like “the old man”. He proves experience and smarts. I sincerely hope she has “the old man”.

I learn something almost every day. Thanks so much for this show and forum, and to all who make it happen.

I think not engaging in prolonged eye contact is key….also animals, even predators respect territory to a point…they will be less aggressive when on our territory more aggressive when we’re In theirs unless actively hunting. When in doubt BLUFF THEM…..other than hi-powered firearms our only defense is to pretend we don’t see them or stand our ground without escalating the situation and pretend to be stronger than we are. Luckily (I learned this lesson as a kid handling horses) I don’t think Squatch truly understand their own power and maybe their interaction with humans and firearms is like us stumbling upon an alien spacecraft……in the squatches mind their are too many unknowns and unless they are really hungry or really angry direct confrontation just isn’t worth the risk/reward. Cool story…get her on the show. How she maintained composure was key…..I think that fake confidence and not getting hysterical saved her and her child. Good job mom!

I’d think if I saw that with my kid walking back toward the house I’d crap my pants! Its too bad sasquatch doesn’t show up in the Hamptons or Santa Barbra where rich hang out – He always seems to be where poorer folks are and nobody believes them because its assumed we are of lower intelligence and don’t know what we saw!.

I’ve hunted just west of there and it is out in the sticks. There is no doubt the boogers are all around that area. Seeing one by your porch is not out of the question at all. Walking past it to get in your house is hard to fathom. The Monongahela National Forest is probably one of the best areas for squatches east of the Mississippi.

I think that a lot of people when seeing something for the first time especially when that thing is way out of the realm of what is normal for us, our mind try to work out what the heck one is seeing while our body goes on autopilot. I am sure that in that instant her mind is in a state of shock and her body is just trying to keep moving, just get inside the house, we will be safe in the house. She can’t quite grasp what that is but she keeps moving while she is trying to figure it out. Luckily in this instance it worked for her. Just as Christian L. Stated above no direct eye contact and not doing anything that can be construed as a threat keeps the bigfoot thinking “is this worth the risk”. I am sure they know very well that some of us humans can be more dangerous then we appear especially if the stories of the military hunting them from helicopters are true. At least no one was hurt for what ever reason.

But…if I have my child by my side, the LAST TIME I will do is WALK towards an unknown creature, especially not knowing what the reaction will be. Then again, if the bus had already departed, the safest place would be one’s home…yes? And running away might have prompted the creature to run after mother and child. In an isolated area, running into the woods might turn out to be a big mistake…
