Here is an interesting report from July 4th, 2008 from Grays Harbor County, Washington.
“The night of the 4th of July me, my fiance, my son and my friend and his step brother were camping across from the humptulips fish hatchery at the mouth of stevens creek..we got out there about 5pm and got camp set up and built a fire and got settled in. we stayed up cooking hot dogs and talking till about 11:30pm then me and my fiance went to bed, my friend stayed up till about 2:30am…thats when the whooping started..right after he went to bed the sasquatch started whooping from across the river, it woke me and my fiance up from a dead sleep…she asked me what it was and I said it was the people camping down the river bar just making stupid noises…I knew what it was but didnt want to freak her out and pack up at almost 3am..the first thing that entered my mind when I heard this was the whoops from the 1974 recording from California..it was almost identical to it but the ones that I heard had more of a primate tone to it…I do believe there was 2 of them communicating because there was one just on the other side of the river not to far back in the timber..(the one that woke us up)…then occasionally we would hear one farther away, then the closer one would whoop back in response…this went on for an hour. I fell back asleep about 3:45 or so….I didn’t know my friend was awake at the time but when I woke up in the morning I asked him if he heard the sounds last night and he said he did..he was trying to talk himself out of what he heard till I asked him about it. This camp site is about 15-20 miles away from where I found the footprints in the snow earlier this year report #23493.”
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator David W Ellis:
On Saturday July 5th I received an e-mail from a previous Witness that filed BFRO Report #23493. He stated that he was camping on the Humptulips River across from Stevens Creek and the local fish hatchery. He identified the sounds. They matched a sound file found on the BFRO website, whoops and knocks from California. It comes from the Berry-Morehead collection of Sierra Sounds.
He stated that one call was coming from directly across the river just inside the tree line. It was answered by something further away. He was very excited about the event especially when it was confirmed the following morning by two other witnesses. Comparing notes they decided to let me know what was going on and invited me to investigate.
On Saturday July 19th I made arrangements to meet both witnesses and go to the location to look around. I was accompanied by another BFRO investigator Scott Taylor. We met at the fish hatchery and followed a road by Stevens Creek to the Humptulips River. We stood just inside the tree line and looked at the camping spot. According to the measurements on Google Earth there is a separation of about 100 yds. We found sign of elk and deer. We also found a possible track. Once inside the forest, away from the river, I found it easy to move around. The vegetation was low and visibility good.
I believe it is important to note that I have had another witness, from Grays Harbor County, who positively identifies this particular call.

I’ve read this story before. I’ve camped in that spot before with a buddy. We never heard anything though. That place gets packed on both sides when the salmon are in. In Feb. I went fishing about 200 yards down river from there for steelhead when it was freezing out. Had to hike in when it was pitch black. I thought about Sasquatch every footstep I took, because of this story! Thanks for posting it. This is my favorite river!
