“What just happened…?”

A listener writes “Hi, are you guys familiar with any reports in Scandinavia !? Trolls are spoken of here in legends and myth. But my experience was no hairy troll… I don’t think! Weekend getaway in my girlfriends cabin. Located near Sandefjord, south Norway. Miles of woodlands and harsh terrain.

Cabin is situated on a high rock peak. One way up. Anyway… On a dark overcast night i went out to the deck to have a cigarette, my dog Accompanied me. Instantly barking and being territorial by standing on cliff edge, I thought nothing of it… I shut him inside after pulling him forcefully. (He usually obeys commands) to which he sat at the front door sniffing and grunting furiously. With my attention on him and nothing more, my stomach nearly fell out my trousers as a serious of small rocks whacked off the side panel of the cabin. It drew my attention to the high trees in front of me. I could see one tree , swaying aggressively back and forth, whilst every other tree stood still !! These are big ancient trees. At this point the dog was going crazy… I thought i could hear bass like grunts coming from below the cliff.

The tree took one massive sway to the right then sprung up like a spring! To which I heard footsteps running. Sounded more like a horse galloping … Twigs and branches breaking as it was happening… Needles to say, my cigarette break was truly over. I locked myself in the cabin and closed all the windows. Wondering what the hell just happened.”

    Ogres, trolls and bigfoot,on my!
When I was a kid in Germany ,goinv to school, I heard the traditional fairy tales involving the European boogie man-
the terrible troll or ogre. It waited under bridges demanding a toll . Was this ‘gifting’?
The troll was depicted as a ‘mountain giant’ with tusks , fearsome growls and cannibalistic intent.

You used EXACTLY the right word, Pam. Mountain Giant. Some of the troll legends from Scandinavia have made the hair on my neck stand up, they sound like a Mountain Giant?! Locals in Alaska that know about these things also refer to them as “Trolls”, perhaps not a coincidence. Was Grendel a Mountain Giant? Creepy stuff!

Exactly same actions we get reported here! Why shouldn’t you have them, or something similar? I’m sure all those wonderful stories and myths came from “something”. Congratulations, and join the club!

Pretty scary if you ask me I don’t know if a locked cabin door in the remote region of anywhere would make me feel safe from something so out of the ordinary. One would think that little safe world we’ve grown accustomed to just took a turn for the worse. I go about my business and haven’t ever come across anything out of the ordinary that would scare me but I’m a city guy for the most part so there’s nothing to be afraid of that I can think of.

You’re way up north there buddy, and I would think you are as likely to see a monster up there in Norway as much as anywhere else on this planet and maybe even more. Reminds me of a recent conversation Wes had with a guest where they were talking about giants and other cyptids being see in the Yukon territories. I believe you had your first experience of a bigfoot or something else. Be very careful.

Hello! YESSSS!!!! I live in fLinköping Sweden, Ostergotlandlands….about 150k s/sw of Stokholm. I did NOT know about SnowTrolls aka sasquatch being in Scandanavia at all!! I walk in the woods just south 1k from my home every afternoon with my dog. Have bern doing so for the ladt 3 years since we got him as a puppy. Nooooooooo idea that they existed here (although, it is a perfect habitat-protected wildlands area etc). In any event ladt winter l was out on a farm road stretching between 2 fields with a steep banked small river to the far left border and a thick pine forest to the right…..had been walking onthis road the ladt 3 days as snow was 2 to 2.5 feet deep but on the road, only about 1 ft or so as the farmer kept it graded. 3rd day out….only seeing my tracks from the previous afternoon and playing game to step in my own footprints from the day before….got to an area of the road recently plowed with abo3″solid ice layer base with about 2″fresh from that midmorning new snow. Now “virgn road” so walking along and noticed a LARGE footprint stepping up out of the field onto the road from the direction of the small river….thoughwhat the ***???! Looked closer. There was a trackway coming up from out of the river (steep banks!) Across about 20″ to step up onto the road…..aprox 5.5 ft stride, 5 PERFECT toes, wide flat….like a dogs padprint, so slightly “puffy” or curved with 3 – 2″ of WET hair print fanning out completely around the foot-shorter at the toe area. I couln’t believe it!!! There were about 15 -dog ran thru a couple at the end of the road were it stepped of into the field again….waliking toward the pine grove to the right. I tried to take a couple of photos but the light with th snow was poor (getting dark here around 14.30-15.00 in early Feb here). Then l looked around and started to get a bit freaked out. No noise, of course, noone out but the dog and l and l still had twalk back to my vehicle past the pine grove….MAN!!!!!!! Since then, l have had 4 other experiences….knocks-wood&rocks, had something VERY LARGE jump down out of a tree behind me on pathway, heard 2 woops….followed by bluff charge….and was then approached……my heart is rscing as l am writting this and sweaty hands….sorry for the typos….small phone….Have 3 footprint photos since then most recent from this march. Tree/possible nest pics, and one possible face – smell 3xs and one visual which scared the hell out of me and l WILL NOT go back in that area alone. I think they recognize me…dog and all. They have been doing road construction and new building in area.
I would LIKE to get in contact with anyone here in Scandanavia -Sweden who has had experiences!!!! Very happy to share alexperiences!!!! Too much to write. Heard 2 wistles and one knock last sunday out hiking in same general area with my husband. He did too. please contact me! With best regards, Suzanne Hertzman Linköping Sweden
Ps : had one sighting in AZ ( Lynx Lake – Prescott) in 86. Scared the hell out of me then but didn’t know what it was until 4 years ago…..looking on line at photos….saw pic of sasquatch bending over picking apples up off the ground..l had no idea they could go on al4s! That photo brought back the memorie of what l had seen in AZ which then lead to me telling tje 2nd person l had ever told, my husband and to finding tjis show. I DID NOT KNOW they were in Scandanavia. /Suzanne

        Hi Daniel S,
I just sent Wes a message….Here is one of the other experiences I had

…I wear a size 38 EU shoe and this print was about 1 ” wider and about 3″ longer.

Two month’s later, again in an area I used to really enjoy going, while walking on the trail I ran into a wall of smell followed by full on visual which scared me so much I will NOT go into this area again alone. Wes, I could have TOUCHED it!!! Came around a corner and it was pretending to be a boulder between two very large root masses of trees that had blown down in a storm the previous year….All I could see moving was the hair on its back and shoulders as it had its back towards the trail sitting slightly hunched. I could see from the butt up the full back with both shoulders (think sliver-back gorilla) I could see the left upper arm from the shoulder down to the elbow – it must have had its arms in its lap. The corner of the top right shoulder was obscured by the roots of the tree. Its head was bent forward and slightly to the right as it must have been listening for my moments and sensing my location. The only thing I could see moving was the hair blowing slightly in the wind. It was black hair – looked fine not thick and I could see the skin which was a dark sliver-grey. VERY defined muscled back with lats like a professional swimmer but MUCH thicker and bulkier. IT was HUGE!!! I stand 5’8″ and the trail is about 1/2 foot lower that the area of ground it was sitting on. The top of it’s shoulders came up to my head!

I had smelled that musky animal smell 3 times previously all in the same general area but this time it was RIGHT THERE! Wes, it was like a terrifying slow motion movie….I saw it as I walked by because 1 I could smell it and knew something was way wrong, 2 because I had been on that trail before and there were only 2 large tree root beds – now there was a large boulder in the middle and 3 because as I saw it it only took about 1 second to recognize what it was and then everything went silent, my ears started ringing, and all I could think was DON”T RUN. DONT RUN. DONT RUN…..walllllkkkkkkkk…..keep walking…..head down, eyes litterally wrapped around to my left to see it as I went by and praying it did’t move or the dog didn’t come crashing into the picture. God. I was scared.

It didn’t move. All I saw was the hair blowing slightly in the wind. Head down, EARS WIDE OPEN I walked past it AROUND in a semi circle so that IF I HAD looked behind me to my left over my shoulder I would have been looking at it across 15 feet or so of bushes in the face. DID NOT LOOK….kept walking, u p the hill over the hill….down to the car, called the dog…drove home. Did not mention it to my husband
for days. I was too freaked out.
