Vashon Island Experience

A listener writes “y fiance and I booked an Airbnb near Seabeck WA on the Hood Canal, and were arriving later around 11pm. The Airbnb we were staying in was a detached cabin which backed up to a heavily wooded area.

We pulled up, and went to unlock the cabin. As we were unloading the car, I thought I heard a dog bark from the wooded area behind the cabin. I played the sound back in my head, and realized I wasn’t totally sure what I heard. Went back for another load, and this time it was a distinct loon or owl ‘hoot’ mimic sound, coming from the same area. Was strange because it sounded as if it were directed at us, instead of an animal just making the noise, like how someone might try and signal you from a concealed position? if that makes sense. I mentioned to my Fiance that it was strange, we settled in for the night, nothing more happened.

Part 2: Next day, nothing strange early evening, went to bed. To set the scene, the cabin was a studio/open room layout with a bathroom. One wall had the headboard of the bed pushed up to it, where we were, and this wall also backed up to the forest beyond the property outside. I woke up around 3am to hear two distinct sets of footsteps (twigs cracking leaves moving) on the other side of the wall outside behind our heads.

One of the two footsteps stopped directly behind the wall from where I was laying, I was very scared at this point. I felt the ‘overwhelm’ of energy I think I’ve heard other people talk about, sort of a nerve paralysis. Second set of footsteps stops further down the wall, closer to my fiance’s side of the bed. I lay listening to what sounds like them scraping the ground outside (?) for about 5 minutes, Then I hear the one behind me clicking with its mouth, almost like a rattling fluttering sound, then clicking its teeth, and the other I think can hear respond. There was a weird phenomena that would happen, that as soon as I would focus in on a given sound they were making, the activity would change or stop, like they could tell I was paying attention? It seemed like every sound I heard was almost an incomplete register due to that happening.

Then I heard the one behind me press its body against the side of the cabin. The wall to the eve of the roof was only about 6 feet, but when it pressed its body against the wall I could hear it scraping across the eve, and the remainder of its upper body/arms laying along the roof over my head, maybe an additional 5 feet. At this point I felt semi paralyzed, I didn’t want to wake my fiance because I knew she would panic, and wasn’t sure how that would escalate.

Then, I heard the one behind me hoist itself onto the roof directly above my head, and at this point I feel like I went into some kind of trance. I don’t know what happened for about 20 minutes, I doubt I could have fallen asleep given how adrenalized I was. I remember at some point becoming aware of the fact I was about to piss the bed, but I was still too afraid to get up and go to the bathroom.

I did shake out of the state, got up and switched on a light, and as soon as I did, I heard the other one on my fiance’s side jump off the roof and run around the side of the cabin with the bathroom. Freaked out I went in and turned on the light and peed, too afraid to look out the window next to the toilet, and pissed with my head down.

At this point my fiance woke up, I came back to the bed and quietly explained to her what was happening, but in that moment it seemed like the activity ceased. We sat and listened for another hour, the one on the roof above me must have jumped down, as I couldn’t hear anything more. My fiance fell back asleep, I laid awake the rest of the night. The next morning I went outside to look, and the foliage/grass was clearly depressed, but no distinct footprints or overt signs of physical evidence on the roof or ground.

Having listened to your show, I don’t know what else this could have been other than two extremely tall and agile locals screwing with us, which it still might have been. While Vashon island is one of the relatively less developed islands for its size in the sound, was still surprised at the potential considering its proximity to Seattle/more developed areas. The biggest giveaway was the clicking, the overwhelming energy/trance feeling, and the sheer height of whoever these were. My interpretation, if it was real, was that they were investigating/playing more than anything. If they wanted to express hostility it would have been easy, and this was not how it came off, despite the subjective feeling of fear I was experiencing.

Either way, thank you for reading, and let me know if you’d be interested in talking more.
Best again to you and to the show, sincerely appreciated, and have a great day.”

Wow. This guy is an excellent writer. I viscerally felt his fear as I read it. What interests me most is how he describes the creatures’ apparent knowledge that he was aware of/listening to them. The clicking freaks me right out. Amazing description, would love to hear him on the show describing their experience in spoken words. I’ve always wondered about smallish islands and whether they exist in such a contained space. I’ve experienced my own “encounter” on Vancouver Island, which is vastly larger than Vashon. Thanks for sharing!

I’m a little confused, If he was near Seabeck on the Hood canal then they were no where near Vashon island. I’m very familiar with the area I’ve lived here for over fifty years.

Right? He seems confused because as you said, Vashan and Hood Canal are clearly different areas. I used to live in Ruston, right across from the island. You can take the ferry across, drive across the fairly large island, take the ferry to Seattle. No where near Vashon Island. ????

Don’t mean to pile on but, Hood Canal and Vashon are not the same.

However, I noticed that the writer said “on the Hood Canal” which tells me he’s not from the PNW, otherwise he would have dropped the “the” and just said “on Hood Canal”. Perhaps not being from here he simply does not know the geography and got the many places he visited confused with each other.

Having said all that, his experience is totally creepy. Having a couple of creatures or men check you out as you sleep is unnerving.

Great read though not sure why it’s called Vashon Island experiments ence. Not trying to be nit picky, ok I guess I am 🙁 . I live on the Kitsap Peninsula not to.far from Seabeck. Vashon Island is also close but it’s a 10-15 minute ferry ride from here. Maybe the guy thought Seabeck was part of Vashon?? I hopo that wasn’t recent. Too close for comfort for me!! :).

I lived on Vashon Island for six months, before I knew about this and one night in the 1st floor bedroom in a lil cabin style house I heard what I thought were men outside my wall. I could hear voices but couldn’t make out what they were saying. I was completely frozen in fear waiting for them to break in frozen just listening to the voices that I thought at the time were human. I’ve moved and have actively at my new place. Now I live on the edge of the National forest. I’m completely obsessed and I’m worried that my obsession is making it worse. If you have activity around your home and you are in your house listening to SQ and calls and thinking about them all the time, does it attract them to you?
    Thanks
