Zero sympathies for thrill seekers, climbers and people hiking mountains without basics. I do however consider them for yearly Darwin awards. These people cost others lives trying to save them. Not to mention millions in wasted taxes. Call me what you will, I don’t care.

What about little kids? One second the are there, turn your pack for a minute and they are gone. There is most always no evidence of them in the area. When I took my kids camping, along with multiple cousins, usually 10 kids in all. I had one major unbreakable rule. They are to never split up and never be out of site of each other. I explained why and if you explain it with empathy and truth they will follow your LAW. The only time they could scatter but be within eye site of each other was when we went camping on Dillions Beach outside of Tomales Bay CA. Its the little beach town where Alfred Hitchcock’s movie The Birds was filmed. I never heard of a siting of BF on the ocean beaches.

Careful where you put that moral superiority, JCW65. The Fates may serve you a dose of humility when you least expect it, and our tax dollars could go toward searching for you. Someone may even be willing to risk his/her life to find you.

Agree hickory67. We all may have made mistakes, I know I certainly did. I got myself lost in the mountains hiking off of a trail when I was about 20 years of age. I did find my way back to my vechicle but it was a hard learned lesson that taught me a lot of humility and I never made those mistakes again. Human beings make mistakes, life is precious. I would risk my life to try to save a life even putting myself at risk. It is the right thing to do.
