Two Hikers Spot ‘Bigfoot’ on Ohio Field

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

CANFIELD, Ohio —  Two people on Saturday evening said they saw a Bigfoot on a field in Mahoning county.

Tyler Smith says he and his daughter were riding their bicycles on a bike trail when they witnessed the alleged creature running across the field. “I saw something going into the woods,” says Smith. “Then it went into a little path.”

“It was dark, furry and he was walking on two legs,” he explained. According to the hiker, the sighting lasted about 1 second and a half. “I swear I saw something. I’m serious, I saw that thing.”

There have been several sightings in this area dating back many years. Canfield, located between US Route 224 and State Route 46, has a population of 8,000 and is known for hosting Ohio’s largest fair in late August.

I’m in that area not too far from it too Jason. I drive 224 almost daily. That area and south of it has a history of activity and sightings. They always talk about the “golden triangle” as far as bigfoot sighting, which includes the towns of Coshocton, New Philadelphia, and Cambridge, OH if you drew lines to each of these towns to get the triangle. Use Rt. 224 as a line from Atwater to the PA line and look south clear to the bottom of the state to the Ohio River and its a booger zone.

Wes, speaking of that area, these 3 guys just finished a documentary on the “Minerva Monster.” Minerva is a small town just southwest of this sighting. The Minerva monster is to Ohio like MoMo is to MO, or the “Fouke Monster” is to Arkansas. Anyway I saw the trailer but haven’t seen the movie yet. Maybe you or somebody on here can get their hands on it. Sounds interesting and the story alone is really good. It’s what got BF really going in Ohio.

I got a chance to see the Minerva Monster documentary recently and I must say I was disappointed. Although it looked technically professional, as good as anything you would see on TV, it was quite uninteresting. The story is exciting enough, however it is told through the mouths of a few witnesses sitting in what appears to be their living rooms. The b-roll is mostly made up of still images of tress and buildings and houses with a few drawings of the monster slipped in.. Since it relies heavily on the spoken accounts of these eyewitnesses, one would expect to see a little emotion coming from them, but there is little sadly. Basically, it is quite tedious. I realize the filmmaker was going for something different than a dude running around in a costume interspersed between the accounts, but there is something to be said for that tried and true format. Because there is so much of these documentaries out there, you have to entertain as well as get the stories across. Overall a good first effort by the documentarian though.

I thought Minerva Monster was good. I was relieved that no one spent money on a suit for reenactments. I would like to see the real deal, thank you very much. I thought the soundtrack was great.

Rob C or William P, If you know a link or know of a site to watch it at, could you post it on here? I’d still like to see it. It’s still the most publicized squatch story in the state ever. I know that area pretty good and have driven past the place it happened quite a few times. Theres still Squatches in the area . I met a father/son who had a daylight encounter a couple years ago just a few miles west of this area. I got to look them up, they would be great guests on the show.

I was able to see the Minerva Monster while attending the Ohio Conference at Salt Fork last month. I thought the movie was done well for the film budget. Being a documentary with actual witnesses I don’t think we need someone in a costume running around to tell the story. I agree with Dave T- the golden triangle is the epic center for Ohio. I live in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park north of the triangle. But it’s said there are sightings in the national park as well. Not sure if I agee on that. Regardless Canfield is definitely an area that could accommodate Sasquatch.
