Trucker reports sighting

The Brookings, Oregon Curry Coastal Pilot Newspaper September 24, 2005:

Daniel Perez contacted informant, 35-year-old Travis Cover from Brookings, Oregon. Perez notes that Cover himself is 6 feet 7 inches tall.

On highway 199 in Del Norte County, northern California on September 22 at about 5:30 am during a routine drive, Travis Cover noted, “It was still dark outside and I was driving along. I reached down to grab my lunch and when I looked back up there it was, – a big hairy monster standing next to a yellow road sign.”

Mr. Cover told Perez he was driving a conventional truck and was going about his business as a trucker, heading northbound on highway 199 toward Oregon at the time of the sighting. Based on the road sign and further investigation, the head on the bigfoot appeared “parallel to the steering wheel. Mr. Cover estimated the size of the subject at 8 feet 3 inches tall. He remarked to Perez on the phone, “…sh*t, ..he was so thick, maybe 800 pounds or so… three or four feet thick.”

Daniel Perez asked the informant if he thought it could have been a costumed man, Cover replied, “there’s no way!” Asked if he was scared, Cover replied, “…yeah.” When Cover reported the incident he told Perez he was “talking 90 miles an hour.”

Mr. Cover told the Brookings, Oregon Curry Coastal Pilot Newspaper, “..it raised its arm to block the beam from my headlights. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

I think it’d be interesting and fruitful, to poll truck drivers , who can remain anonymous, about things they have seen on the roads of our country. And not just sasquatch.

I’ve been trucking for over 20 yrs and had many paranormal experiences along with strange lights in the sky, but I’ve never seen a sasquatch. One time going through state route 2 behind Julian California I seen a huge wolf like creature run across the highway at 2 am on all fours. Later I heard stories about dogman sightings in that area. However I was tired and may has seen something else but that thing was huge.

I also think folks that work on the railway probably see these creatures fairly often too. If there was a way to gather anonymous reports without opening it up to the jokers out there then I agree it could be a fruitful task. Reports would need screening to keep the leg pullers at bay.

Unfortunately I would have to think truck drivers may be treated by the FMCSA the way pilots are treated by the FAA when they report ufo’s. I don’t think many would freely talk about sightings.

I’ve always thought this story was the epitome of irony.
A close friend drives truck for UPS. Every night, he would pull a trailer from Redding, CA to Eureka, drop it and pull another one back to Redding. For years this was his nightly route, right through prime BF territory, never saw hide nor hair of BF.
Then, one morning, in his coyote calling blind near Burney, north of Mt Lassen, waiting for it to get light, one walks right up and screams literally in his face. He still hunts coyotes, but nowhere near there, and with a whole new attitude about being alone in booger woods.
