Tonight’s Show: Nebraska Encounter

A listener writes “I have had screams whoops Knocks footprints but now…I’m freaking out I just saw one tonight not 40 yards from me and the reality of this is overwhelming right and I just need to talk to someone who isn’t going to laugh at me.

I dont care about being on your show I just need to talk. I had one scream at me a few years ago I have structures all over the property I hunt and I found footprints earlier this year but tonight I saw one and it was staring straight at me from behind a Bush. It has dark gray almost black skin on its face a heavy brow ridge with a conical head hair all around its face and on its head big dark eyes I couldn’t see the white part its nose looked like some black peoples nose it was wide and its lips were down a little further than a person’s and a really wide mouth.

I left and called my kids mom because even though we aren’t together shes still like my partner in a lot of ways and I can tell she doesn’t believe me. The one biggest thing that has me so stirred up now is that I’ve literally been selling a bunch of stuff on Facebook market and I worked Saturday and today to save money for a new crossbow. My plan for tonight was to go online and figure out exactly which one I was going to buy and I was really excited.

I’m turning 48 in a couple weeks and this was going to be my present to myself and now I don’t think I can hunt anymore. This thing didn’t look like it had a soul it stared at me expressionless with those big dark sunk in eyes. I believe it was a juvenile because it didn’t seem to be a whole lot bigger than me but I saw a 20 inch footprint out there so this one isn’t the only one that habituates this area which really Isn’t that big or thick with trees because its farmland. If you have any time I would really really appreciate a few minutes talking to you.”

-I’m no expert but if you have been hearing them and seeing their sign for a few years then they probably accept or at least tolerate you already. I don’t blame you for being freaked out , I know I would be, but I think they would have messed with you by now if they were going to. They are very curious, especially the younger ones. You gave an excellent description of the one you saw so I’d love to hear you on the show. Good luck and stay safe!

I know but when you actually see one and know for a fact that they’re in your area it messes with your head. I went from being pretty sure they’re real to knowing that one could walk up to me in my tree stand and eat me in a split second

It helped me an awful lot to be able to talk to someone who has had their own legitimate encounter. Wes is a great guy and I dont know how many nights sleep I would have lost if he didnt takk me through this. You really feel crazy and I needed that reassurance that I wasnt.

Hope you and Wes get to talk…he’s a wonderful listener, and I do believe it truly helps. He sure helped my son Matt a few weeks ago.

    Stay safe, and God bless.

I can show you. You wont believe it. It’s just a farm with tree lines running through it. Find me on Facebook . Shawn Wilson I’m friends with Wes . The location is just east of Douglas Nebraska.

Robert M – I’m from the Omaha area too. Can you point me out to any stories about the Dogman types around Hummel Park? Thanks! I wonder if there’s any Sasquatch out there too?

Man, that’s a heck of a story. You def should talk it out. I know when I had my encounter, it was very quick, and not a very friendly one. I agree with others here….if you have seen sign and heard whoops/howls, especially for the duration of a year or more, then it is a pretty safe bet that the ones habituating your area have allowed themselves to tolorate you. I have been looking into this heavily to make sense of my encounter, and Wes and the gang here at SC were the first ones I opened up to in over 12 Years. But my encounter happened 24 years ago. It can tear you up, holding it in.
This is as safe a spot as I have found my friend. You can learn alot here.

I would be very careful. I’ve heard a lot of encounters with bow hunters having really bad experiences. I also have seen one as a little girl in east Texas. One followed and screamed at me and my mother while we were traveling on foot down a dirt road on our way home from my grandparents house. When it came out of the woods behind us I saw it. It was 25 to 30 feet from us.

Lele: I think I remember hearing your story. It was very interesting. But it traumatized you didn’t it? Didn’t your mother say “RUN!!” but you fell? she had to scoop you up??
