Tonight’s Show: Long night in the cabin

Tonight I will be speaking to Morris and Gina. Morris writes “Hi Wes. My name is Morris. I just found your podcasts.

With all the tv shows on now days I have not been able to get my own encounter that happened in the early 90’s out of my head. It’s very strange to me. I haven’t thought or spoke about it in years. Now, it’s like consuming me. I live in Texas now. Right between San-Antonio and Austin. A place called New-Braunfels Texas. I’m from just north of Pittsburgh about 50 miles. Kittanning Pa. Armstrong county. My sighting was actually a little further north in Clarion county. My best friend and I were hunting the Saturday before buck season. We really wanted to just scout out our spot for the following Monday. The first day of deer. Our encounter wasn’t very dramatic as most of the ones you have on your show. It changed our lives but not sure if you would be interested or not.

It was a great day for us all day. We saw 50 turkey walk in a single file line below our spot. We always sat on top of a hill. We had about 350 yard view in the land below. An albino doe came crashing out of the words. It sounded like a horse coming out. Later, someone must have kicked a black bear out. It was hauling ass. Countless deer were seen. We just watched everything and felt great about the following week. We walked out from our spot so we could be at the blazer before dark. We started leaving with our eyes on the woods along the dirt road. There are some deer yards I guess they call it back on top beside where we hunted. It was so thick that when bad weather would hit we would just walk into them and with blizzard like wind and snow going on. You could hear a pin drop. Anyway, as we were leaving, driving at about 10 mph. From the left bank, this huge black figure walked in front of us. Only about 10 feet in front of us. The first thing I noticed was the arms. They were twice as long as a mans. I sat in my seat horrified. Frozen. I have never felt fear like that before or since. The stride on this thing was incredible.

It turned its head it seemed toward us but I could not see a face. Just black. It just walked across the road in front of us but it covered 100 yards in like a minute walking. I was so freaked out all I could get out was ” What the fuck was that?” I noticed my friend’s mouth was open like his jaw was going to hit the floor. He was shaking. I noticed that I was shaking just as bad. No idea why but the fear I felt kept me from thinking clearly. We just sat there speechless for what seemed to be an eternity. My friend said I don’t even want to talk about it. We didn’t either for months. Having been a jagoff to others that claim to have seen this. I feel terrible. Now, I just can’t stop thinking about it. When I hear other accounts of sightings I’m amazed. I am flying back home in December to hunt deer. I have two of my sons that are adults. I’m taking them to the place I’ve seen this thing. I am going to try and get a picture. My sons know I can bull shit with the best but I am not a liar. Since we have planned this. They are getting a little nervous. It should be interesting at the least. I was wondering if you have ever heard of sightings in Armstrong or Clarion counties? The place I am going is Truitsburgh. Just outside New- Bethlehem Pa. On rout 66 North headed towards Cooks Forrest. If your interested, feel free to contact me. Hoping maybe somebody saw the same thing in that area. Maybe give me some tips or advice on what to do in December.

I will also be speaking to Gina and Gina writes ““I am from a suburb just outside of St.Louis, Mo., and as kid I used to go for summer visits to my grand parents house. They lived in a very rural town called Supply in Arkansas.

The first encounter I recall was when I was around 11-12 years old (1980-81). We were traveling back home, maybe 40-50 miles from my grand parents house. I’m not sure what town we were going through. The best I recall the area was very heavily wooded with big tall pine trees and rock bluffs. Typically you see rock bluffs running parallel with the roads, but I recall this bluff running horizontal on the right hand side of the road. It was a bright sunny day and I recall just watching the scenery go by as I sat in the back seat. It was then when I noticed something very big and man like sitting on top of the bluff. Almost as if it were just sitting there watching the traffic go by. It had long red hair just like an orangutan. I remember yelling and pointing to get my parents attention asking… what is that??? It went by so fast they didn’t see it. I begged to go back and get another look but they wouldn’t. They dismissed it saying it was probably a bear or deer. But I never could accept that’s what it was being that I’d never seen hair like that on anything other than an orangutan. And, I think we can all agree, orangutans the size of a large man aren’t located in the wild of Arkansas or Missouri. What was it? I don’t know.

My second encounter was actually during a visit at my grand parents house. I was 14 (1983). This visit I had brought a friend with me. My grand parents lived down this winding gravel road pretty much in the middle of no where. On their property was their home and a big pole barn, on down the road, maybe 6-700 feet, they also had a little cabin that was maybe 150 foot away from the banks of the Current river. The cabin was never really used other than for family events when we would bbq and go swimming in the river. I don’t recall anyone ever staying the night in it. We would always gather our stuff and go back up to the house. A few nights into our visit we decided we were old enough to be able to stay overnight in the cabin so we begged my grandma to let us. It had electric and a phone so she agreed, and off we went. We felt pretty safe, we knew we could call her if anything happened. The cabins phone line was actually on the same line as her house phone, and back then the old rotary phones had this neat little feature of being able to call your own phone number and making all the phones attached to the line ring, and if you were quick enough you could call each other. So, all was good in our eyes. As night approached we kicked back talking, giggling and sneaking cigarettes as two girls would do having fun.

Some time around 9-10pm we heard a growl outside, it perked our interest, but was quickly dismissed. Then, a few minutes later, another growl, louder this time. It shook us up a little, but we calmed quickly. Then, maybe 5 minutes later, it came again, this time it was a louder continuous growl as it circled the cabin. We tried to look outside but it was pitch black, we couldn’t see anything. The windows were probably 6-7 feet from the ground making it even harder to see. We were terrified! On the phone I went to get grandma!! I couldn’t get it to work, she wouldn’t pick up. Turned out, she was already in bed. There we were, terrified, not knowing what to do or what was outside. We had no communication to anyone and not a weapon in sight. It kept coming in intervals about every 5 minutes or so. Every time getting louder and louder. Whatever it was was mad, very mad.

It was like no other sound I’ve ever heard in my life. The walls vibrated. Our ears rang. Our bones rattled. We could feel it vibrate our chests it was so loud. This thing was big!! It was a sound that to this day I still can never forget. We stood in the middle of the cabin away from any windows or doors praying for it to go away. But it wouldn’t. It just kept getting more aggressive and violent each time. It seemed to be circling the cabin screaming into every window and door with occasional bangs sounding like it was it hitting the cabin. Not being able to take it anymore, or knowing what to do,

I finally made the decision we had to get away from the cabin and get help before it got mad enough to come in. So the next time it stopped we decided we were going to make a run for grandmas house. No looking back….just RUN!! The only light we had was a dusk to dawn light on my grandpas pole barn off in the distance. It was just enough light to barely see the gravel road. Off we went like our butts were on fire!! We tried to be as quiet as we could to avoid drawing its attention. I swear I was gritting my teeth so hard to keep from screaming the whole way it’s a wonder they didn’t shatter! We nearly beat my grandmas door down to wake her up and let us in!! We frantically told her what had happened. She calmly told us it was probably a bear or bobcat or something of that nature….Calm down, no big deal, suck it up. And we did because we had no clue what it was. And what if she were right? We didn’t really know for “sure” what those animals sounded like mad and screaming. We were thoroughly confused and in shock. And we never talked about again. I think probably because we wanted to do what was expected and soldier through our fear.

Now, as the years have gone by and the new age of technology and the internet, movies, YouTube, etc., I have scoured the web trying to find an animal sound like we heard that night. Something, anything, that would tell me what that was, I can’t! What I can say is, it was NOT the sounds of a bear, big cat, wolf or anything of the sort.
As a young girl I was convinced that thing was trying to attack us. But as I’ve gotten older and thought about that night and what happened, I’m truly convinced it’s intentions weren’t to attack us. Had it been after us, it would have pounced on us the second we opened that door to run. It didn’t. We didn’t hear a sound from it when we were running. I believe it was a territorial thing, we were in it’s space and it was demanding we leave. I could be wrong, but that’s my take on it.

Throughout the years (over 30), I lost touch with the girl I was with that night. To me, it would be very interesting to hear her opinion of that night all these years later.

What was it? I don’t know. But what I do know, I never want to hear that sound ever again…..”
