Tonight: Red Eyes And Strange Chatter

Earl writes “My step dad and I have been hearing screams from the mountains for a couple weeks. He has heard them for years. I’ve only been here for two weeks. He told me he had heard them from the field and patch of woods right across the street. We live in east Tennessee in the foothills of the Cumberland mountains.

Two nights ago we were out on the porch smoking cigarettes and what sounds like a German Shepherd is barking aggressively at something. All the sudden, something screams so loud and powerful at this dog that it wimpers while running away.

It sounded off like a 900 pound owl. That’s about the best way I can describe it. It was approximately 60 yard’s away from us. I wanted to run over there and try to see it. But I was simply, just to scared. There’s more to this story.”

Ed writes “My dad and I , who’s name is Ed also, have been hunting for going on our 42nd year together. We can tell quite a few funny stories from over the years but one year around 2010 wasn’t funny. We were hunting in A southern county in Ohio call Coshocton county.

There’s a lot of big deer there plus it’s only about a two hour drive. Just far enough to get away from all the stress of the daily work routine. It was opening day of deer gun season and we always like to get to our spot before sun up. Dad’s getting up in age and takes his time getting to his spot. Which I’m glad he does. Hope I’m still hunting at 77. But me I’m going on 55 and can still make a bee line to my spot without stopping from being excited about opening day. We were hunting on the top of this hill. Me dropping down one side and my dad dropping down on the opposite side of me but staying closer to the top. I get to my spot turn out my flash light, man is it dark! You couldn’t see your hand in front of your face.

About 20 min go by and you can just barely make out the outline of trees when I hear these geese flying over my left shoulder. Their getting closer and closer when they finally fly over head and start flying away over my right shoulder. I call dad on the radio and check on him. He says he’s still a couple hundred yards out because he forgot something at the truck and had to go back. That’s a regular thing for dad. Lol. So the squaking geese are almost far enough away to hardly hear when all of a sudden something on the opposite side where dad was going to hunt, made this hair raising scream. I have a lot of hours logged in the woods and never heard anything like this! My first reaction I will admit was, who the hell is yelling in the woods on opening day. But then I heard the sound of branches breaking and I mean big branches, and like brush pulling off something.

It sounded like a bulldozer was going through the woods. I will say I clicked the safe off. It was still hard to make things out because it still wasn’t that light yet. I’m just glad whatever it was, wasn’t coming my way. It was moving away like going down the opposite hill from me. Couldn’t have been more than 40 to 50 yards from me when it yelled. In my mind this was no person, anyone moving through the woods like it did when you could barely see would’ve killed them selves down that hill. Later that day, around 5pm dad and I met up on the ridge to walk out, I asked him if he’s seen anything? He said no. Then I told him what I heard earlier that morning. He looked just as puzzled as I was to what could’ve made all that noise so early in the morning. We didn’t hunt in that area again.”
