This was either a crazy person or Bigfoot

A listener writes “I live in Oregon, the first real evidence that I was exposed to was back in February of 2003. My wife and I were scouting deer near Head of the River campground which is about 30 miles North of Sprague River highway.

Being a tribal member I can hunt and fish at any time of year so we often take advantage of that. Anyway, once we were about 1 mile north of the campground we stopped to get out and stretch ou legs. My wife was wandering around an called me to her position to show me something. When I got there, she showed me a track she had found. It was about 16′ long and 7″ wide. She asked me what it was and I told her it was exactly what she thought it was. There was still a lot of snow up there and we studied and followed the track line about 150 yards in each direction. At one point, the animal stepped over a 4′ field fence and continued to the southwest to the tree line on private property. My wife and I have been tracking for 36 years and are very good at it. We had never seen anything like like before. That is when I became a firm believer. I took pictures and reported the finding to the BFRO but they didn’t seem to take it very seriously so I let it go. It did however have a profound effect on me. I am 54 years old and have been going out in the woods by myself since I was old enough to drive. After that experience I found it difficult to do so knowing I wasn’t actually alone. Always looking over my shoulder while wood cutting and getting startled when I heard branches break.

Over 3 years later after my nerves and calmed down, my wife and I were not on the best of terms and I decided to go camping for the night by myself. This was September of 2006. I drove to one of my many camps about 10 minutes from our home about 1 mile North of Collier Park off Hwy. 97. My camp was near a gorge on the Williamson River where unbeknownst to me, other sightings had been reported. The nearest campground is undeveloped (Williamson River Campground) and I checked it going in to make sure it was empty as I wanted to be alone and my camp was just across the river.

I set up my camp and caught my dinner before the sun went down, ate and relaxed by the fire for the rest of the night. The fire was about 10′ from the water. I drank a couple of beers and found myself nodding off so I was thinking of going to bed. The fire was almost out so I checked my watch and it was straight up midnight. Just at that moment a very large rock hit the water making a terrible noise and water splashed on me and the fire. I sat there for a moment stunned before I started thinking. Then I got really scared. I know there were no other people nearby so I drew the conclusion that this was either a crazy person or Bigfoot.

I didn’t want to deal with either so I drew my sidearm and fired 2 shots in the air to let whatever it was know that a was frighted and armed. Then I ran to my pickup only a few feet away and started it and threw my roof mounted spotlight on the far bank of the river where the rock was cast from. I hurriedly broke camp and got the hell out of there. I spent the rest of that night in my truck in my own driveway. I was scared to go back out in the woods again until spring of 2007. After the snow had cleared I went and retrieved the rock thrown at me. It weighed in at 32 pounds.”

I love the title of your experience “It was either a crazy person or a Bigfoot” because on a trip to Cody Wy. we pulled over and camped for the night in our Motor Home out of Salt Lake City going east up about 7000 ft. Around 2:00 AM. A yelling Crazy person or Aminal came screaming towards us, it sounded like someone wasted or a Pisxxx off large Creature. The dogs never let out a whimper, it circled us and went out the way it came. Mind you no one around for miles in forested Mountains, I now think it was probably Sasquatch, it was like half man and animal! Thank You for your cool story…

I know the area he is in; there is a n old logging equipment display in a small state park there- it is on our way to Crater lake. We stop there every time and the area is always empty it seems. It always feels, well, haunted sort of. Like there is no one around but you can feel the history of the folks that used to live and work there….or maybe it’s not folks.
