A listener writes “I’m 48 yrs old and live in Barre, Massachusetts. I don’t know how detailed you want these to be & I don’t want to waste your time either. I had my encounter 2 & 1/2 yrs ago while on a solo hike. I didn’t know what I saw until I discovered your show & heard other folks describe what I’d been through myself. I’ve been aware and interested in Bigfoot since In Search Of with Leonard Nimoy. I just figured if they were around they certainly were not in New England, they were on the Pacific coast, Canada or Alaska.
It was early Spring of 2020 and I was on a solo hike geocaching in Southern NH, Richmond NH I think. It was in the Widow Gage Town Forest. A short circle trail over varying terrain, with access to the longer NET trail I believe. The NET follows the ridge of Mt Monadnock and deeper forest. I was only doing the circle. I was the only truck in the parking lot and I saw nobody else there. About a quarter of my way around I came to a beaver pond and spooked some ducks. Shortly after I was back on the trail and heard voices, talking. I wrote it off as the ducks returning and murmuring to one another like they do while farting around together. I began to zero in on a cache and heard the voices again. At this point i was close to the juncture of the NET and assumed some folks were coming along. I hurried up and moved on. Never seeing anyone I continued up the trail and came to the summit of a small 900′ hill. While there catching my breath and poking around off trail I heard people talking again. I remember thinking they were two women but I couldn’t make out anything, they were too far away. I expected them to come into view imminently so I made my way back to the trail and turned to continue on. Immediately I heard a Bard owl call and immediately I thought this isn’t an owl it was someone impersonating an owl. The end of the call wasn’t right. I turned to compliment whoever did it and there was nobody there, I was still up top of the hill and it was sort of a plateau type , it was somewhat flat with good sight lines. I never saw anyone.
At this point I thought someone or two people were messing with me so I didn’t hang around and moved on down the hill. I found another cache halfway down, heard the voices and moved along never seeing anyone.
The trail eventually came to the cellar hole of an old homestead. It was on a little rise with a good view all around. I took the opportunity to explore some and used my position to keep my eye on the hill, trail and whatever else. I never saw anyone coming behind me. I was confused and fully expected people to come along and no one did. I thought maybe they had just walked to to top of that hill hoping for a view and doubled back along the NET.
I moved along past the homestead and the trail turned crossed a Springtime melt flooded stream feeding into another beaver pond. The trail turned and climbed a bit along the edge of the pond. I hadn’t gone too far when I heard the ‘owl’ again loud! Except this time it ended with a Ya-hooooooo! Clearly a person messing around. I whipped around to the direction of it and looked down at ground level, because that’s where it had come from, not in a tree.
About 40 yards away I saw a person? Immediately I said I knew it then I said he’s fn tall. I estimate it at 6’6″-7′ tall. This figure was all black with a hood on or an afro, I couldn’t make it out. It was in the process of going from standing on two feet, turning away from me and dropping to the ground to all fours. All in one smooth fluid motion. And it dropped down to the ground out of sight. I’ve been back since and figure it was dropping behind a stone wall. I was absolutely flummoxed, kind of stupified as to what I was seeing. I knew it wasn’t a person but at the same time I knew it had to be a person. What else could it be? I turned around away from this to catch my step, then turned back to see what it was doing and never saw it again. Whats odd is that it was in the area of the flooded stream, where i didnt even want to walk through, nevermind drop on all fours. I’ve come to accept that what I saw was a Bigfoot and there was nothing else that fit its shape and do what it did. At the time and for awhile afterwards I just couldn’t wrap my head around what I had seen
As it was turning away from me, on its way to the ground its right arm made a swinging motion that just stuck in my head. I often thought about this movement after the fact like it reminded me of something. About four or five months later it hit me what I was remembering. There’s a video of a Florida Skunk Ape marching through a swamp with waist high grass. It’s pretty famous and I had seen it on some show in the past. Towards the end of the clip as its moving from right to left it starts motoring, swinging its arms like it was swimming, or wading through deeper water. That’s exactly what this thing did. It had freakish long arm, swinging forward and down towards the ground.
The whole experience freaked me out, but it really wasn’t until I discovered your show and learned these things can be in New Hampshire. They can mimic owls and they do speak and follow people around. It freaked me out and I’m sort of on edge now writing this out. I’ve since learned there have been confirmed sightings in the nearby area with the BFRO, as well at other areas I’ve had experiences. I’ve never seen another one, I have come across what I think was a trackway, confusing trees broken & twisted and one or two other things that made me scratch my head.
I’m sorry to have rambled on here. If you want to talk I can flesh out what happened easier than writing it all down. My daughter encouraged me to contact you and now I can tell her I have. I think its important people realize these things are all around. They are not localized in any particular area and they can even be in Massachusetts.”

Thank you for sharing this with Wes, good sir.
Good grief makes me not want to hike trails anymore!

I have friends who hike in the New England area and I’ve asked them if they ever heard anything odd or felt like they were being watched or followed in the woods as they hike and each of them give me that, “Are your crazy?” look. I know I sound weird whenI talk about Sasquatch with them but I want them to know its out there and to be careful.
