The Man-Eating Lions Of Tsavo

Bob Gymlan writes “his is my retelling of one of the most fascinating wildlife conflicts in history. The Lions of Tsavo. I know it is a little off topic from what I normally do, but it’s been one of my favorite verified historical accounts for years now. Plus with my Illustrator, (Fred Dunn of DreadFun) I couldn’t help myself. Though I’m first to admit, this video spiraled out of control a bit. I wish I had more time to spend on editing and reviewing, but I simply cannot dedicate any more time to this, as I have an exciting October fast approaching.

People have grown skeptical of J.H. Patterson’s account, but I try to prove that his numbers and retelling of events is more conservative than you may think.

A few additional notes, I’m already preparing for people to tell me “that’s not how it happened!” but please note, all the information regarding the narrative comes from Patterson’s autobiography of the events. Therefore, if something doesn’t match up to what you have seen (from Hollywood,) please understand that I’m not wrong, I utilized only the first hand account.
I also used Patterson’s words for things now called other things. For example, Tsavo River is no longer called that. And we know lions don’t have “tusks” but that’s what Patterson calls the lion’s teeth.”

Yeah. The movie is great. As Bob Gymlan points out, however, the facts are different to what people believe. I can’t figure out why Hollywood regularly takes an awesome true story and embellishes or changes it. If one does a little research they’ll find that Micheal Douglas’s Character didn’t exit and there are some other details that were fabricated or changed. They could have done the whole movie straight as it was and it still would’ve been a hair-raiser.

They are exhibited at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.
It’s an eerie feeling looking at these things and knowing the magnitude of death and suffering they caused.

Bobs video was way better than the movie. I hope he does more long videos like this one. His voice, hot takes, and the illustration make it mesmerizing. I think it was the perfect length.

I saw the movie. I think it was a remake of an older version. Really fascinating story. I believe that those lions carried something inside them that was more powerful than any ordinary lion. Those things were calculating and even vengeful. They could have had all kinds of food if they had stayed in other areas but they wanted to eat men. Africa is full of all kinds of witchcraft. It used to be called the dark continent for a reason.

(Montana) I didn’t see the movie and only knew the bare facts of this story. Bob did an EXCELLENT job of narration and I was totally fascinated! Thanks to Bob (and Wes) for a thrilling tale.
