A listener writes “I’m not sure I had a sighting, but if not it was the largest homeless person I or my husband have ever seen. When our children were small we would drive all night while they slept to get to our vacation destinations. In 2001, we were taking our family to Yellowstone National Park for a weeks vacation. I’m not quite sure of the date but I believe it to be somewhere around July 1st or 2nd that we began our journey. We live in Northern Utah and would leave home around 10pm. We were pulling a 5th wheel travel trailer so we liked to drive while traffic was light. We stopped in Idaho Falls at a 24 hr grocery store to stock-up for the trip. We arrived in Ashton Id sometime around 3am. Our fuel was running low and we knew of a gas station off the main road that carried diesel so we headed there. To get to the gas station we had to drive past the local high school football field. As we approached the field, we could visibly see a large man walking from east to west across the south side of the field.

As we got closer we could see that the person was massive. I say he because I don’t think a female could ever look so masculine. This is very early in the morning and the only thing we could think of was a homeless person headed for the main road. As we approached the field we could see the moonlight glistening off of his ragged coat. The sleeves were tattered and long strings were hanging around his hands like and old nylon coat that we would throw in a kennel for the dogs to sleep with when I was a kid. This person was not missing a beat and walking very fast. I would guess his height to be around 8 ft give or take a few inches. My husband and I both looked at each other and said at the same time “lets wait to fuel up in Island Park”, which was about 20 miles further. We never really thought it could be anything but a homeless person but didn’t have a good feeling of stopping anywhere in his vicinity.

Not long after the encounter we moved to Salt Lake City and I couldn’t help but look for this giant homeless person every time I pasted a homeless shelter or encampment. After listening to your podcasts, I really think that what we saw was a Sasquatch that morning. Even Shaq Oneal is dwarfed by the thing we saw. I’m wondering if you have heard of any encounters around Island Park or the Teton Valley in Idaho. Thank you for all you do and keep up the good work, you make a difference in this crazy world.”
