Hi Wes, I need to tell you what happened to me in April of 2025. To give you a little background, I had always lived in the city until I had to move here in late 2021 to take care of my parents, who both had cancer. I inherited the house and continued to live here.
It’s a small house on four acres of wooded land. There are farms around here, lots of woods, and just a few houses scattered throughout the area.
The house sits about 50 yards back from the road. My neighbors to the left are about 50 yards away, and the ones to the right are about 100 yards away. Across the road, there are some woods, then a huge field, more woods, and eventually the Flint River. I live in Michigan, and this property is part of a Chippewa Indian reservation. There’s a cemetery about three miles to the left and an old Chippewa Indian Cemetery about four miles to the left.
One evening, I was sitting in my sewing room. My sewing room faces the road, and I spend a lot of time in there. I looked out toward the road and saw these lights moving down it.
At first, I thought there was some kind of bike race going on in the rain. The only way I can describe these lights is that they looked like the old lights people used to put on bicycles back in the 1970s. They were white and about the size of a softball.

I got up and went to the front door because I wanted to see the bike race.
There were no bikes.
There were no people.
There were only these lights.
Two would go by, then a few seconds later three would go by. Then a car would drive past no lights associated with it. A little while later, the lights would come again. There was no rhyme or reason to them.
Honestly, I was entertained by it.
This happened for about three evenings in a row. Every time, the lights were traveling toward the left. I kept trying to figure them out. Were they somehow connected to the cars? Was it the lightning? Was there some strange reflection happening because of the rain? Eventually, I convinced myself that they were just some weird “country” phenomenon.
I started calling them “the country lights.” After I had been seeing the “country lights” for a few evenings, something else happened.
One evening, very early, I was driving home and saw something in the woods about an eighth of a mile from my house. At first, I thought it was a very tall, thin man. He appeared to be wearing a dark, baggy, long-sleeved shirt and black pants. He was so black that he seemed darker than the trees surrounding him.
It also looked like he had extremely long black hair. I assumed he worked for the woman who owned the property across the road. My mom had always told me that she was mean and that I should stay away from those woods, so I didn’t think much more about it.
The next evening, I was back in my sewing room. I looked out into the woods across the road and saw what I can only describe as a black pole standing right next to a tree. Now, I look at those woods every day. As I said, I spend a lot of time in my sewing room, and that window gives me a very familiar view of them.
So my first thought was, Who put a black pole in those woods? Why would anybody do that? It looked like a large black pole standing directly beside a tree. But this thing was blacker than anything I had ever seen.
Whatever I was looking at appeared to be easily eight or nine feet tall.
I was completely baffled.
I got up from my sewing room and went to the front door to get a better look.
It was gone.”
