The counselors said it was a wild animal

A listener writes “Hi Wes, after much self debate I firstly want to thank you and your brother for helping me and many others. It’s taken me most of my life I’m 63 to get the courage to face what happened when I was a child 7yo and 13yo. Now with your and Woody’s giving people the opportunity to help face their encounter with Cryptids.

1st summer of 1961 -encounter – I grew up in Sheffield Lake Ohio, I lived next to a heavily wooded area with a stream before the area developed. About a 1/8 of a mile from the shores of Lake Erie. I walked south from my home I’m really not sure how far maybe a 5 min walk and encountered a structure of upturned trees – upside down roots and all.

I wondered what the hell or who could do that and why? I started seeing if I could move them and as I was pushing the trees maybe 3 or 4 inches round and someone threw a rock at me, then another which hit me in the right arm an inch from my bicep. It hurt like hell an left a bruise. I yelled who is throwing the rocks and I swear I saw something dark playing peek and boo behind a tree about 60 ft away. Whatever it was was dark and now after thinking about it it was swaying. It was way taller than my Dad maybe but not quite 7 ft.

I ran like hell and didn’t go to that part of the forest anymore but during that summer I did catch quick glimpses out of the corner of my eye in other parts of the forest but thank god no more rocks thrown. After that summer and as the development started I didn’t see it anymore.

2nd summer of 1967 encounter – I spent 4 weeks at Camp Hi in Hiram, Ohio – next to a college well through the woods a ways to the college where the Cleveland Browns used to have their summer practice field.

I was in a cabin with 3 other kids 2 bunk beds in a half triangle shape and the other half was maybe 50% screen with a wooden screen door. We had to walk down a path to use the bathroom. This was in last week of Jun and 2 maybe 3 weeks in July.

My encounter was in my second week there in July.

I was asleep in the top bunk for maybe not quite 2 hours, I wasn’t quite in the deep sleep fog when the screen door slammed and a few seconds later I smelled something like a cross between wet dog and a weird crap smell mixed but enough to make you sick to your stomach. I opened my eyes and was trying to keep from throwing up

I was in a bunk facing the screen where moonlight shone through and lit part of the floor. I sensed something in the room with us and thought it might be a camp counselor plying a trick or something and I was laying with my arms at my side and a monkey like hand reached up and touched my left hand. Like up on top of my hand. I’m ashamed to admit I screamed like a little girl, I remember it screamed like almost mimicking me sound. The touch lasted about 3 seconds I looked over the edge of the bunk slightly and saw monkey like hairy face from the side as it turned and went like through the screen door knocking the door off its hinges it turned to my right outside and made another quick right in front of the screen half wall facing me and was gone like the wind. I noticed a much lager iike a block dark wall that ran along with the much smaller one.

The whole encounter lasted maybe 15 seconds from beginning to end. I wetted myself a little I was so scared. The counselors came running and one guy fixed the door a little and I changed the covers and my pajama’s. I remember crying and shaking. The counselors said it was a wild animal and not to be worried and they would replace the door in the morning and put a better lock on it The next day after talking to the head guy he told me that a monkey escaped from a circus and I remember he said you didn’t get hurt did you? Well lets not bother your parents with this and he passed me automatically on my archery final.

I know this is going to sound bizarre but when it touched me and a second before I got the nerve to scream I saw a quick flash in my mind and I saw it in the woods like picture a quick flash and even now its really hard to focus on the picture.

I also remember being sick for 3 days after the event. Not quite the flu and definitely sick. I think I slept about 12 or more hours the next day and missed all 3 meals and I remember when I woke I asked if he would get me a sandwich.”

It’s reports like this that force me to be open minded about mind speaking. Especially since it would make much more sense that you would get picture thoughts unless they could think in our language. I’m glad that the person can come forward and speak about this as it has obviously bothered him for half a century. Thanks for telling your encounters!
