Strange occurrence with a Sasquatch?

A listener writes “Wes: listen to your show quite a bit, and thought I’d send you a bit of info about a strange day my 17 year-old daughter and I had just over a year ago. Full disclosure: I am an avid sasquatcher, and a member of the BFRO.

Anyway, the two of us were camping on a Forest Service Road (FSR) near Harrison Lake, BC last Canada Day long weekend (first weekend in July); just us, plus our dogs: Hamish, a New Zealand heading dog, and Skye, a border collie. We arrived on Saturday evening (after a day-long and fruitless search for a camping spot in a much more popular area earlier that day), set up camp and had dinner, and went to bed in our two-person, two-dog tent– uneventful evening, other than Hamish escaping and scaring the crap out of me as he sniffed around outside the tent for the better part of an hour!

The next day, though, things got weird. As I was making coffee at about 8:00am, I got the distinct feeling that I was being watched from the woods, which were pretty thick in areas right next to our campsite and across the FSR. You know, that skin-crawling-on-the-back-of-your-neck feeling; no particular incident to report, just an unsettling feeling that something malevolent was in our presence. We did a few short hikes in the area through the afternoon, and then I made some supper, the creepy feeling only getting stronger as the day wore on. Just after we ate, both dogs started behaving strangely: Skye, the older of the two, started digging a hole under the wheel well of my truck, like she was trying to get away from something, and Hamish, the younger dog, moved to the middle of the FSR and began staring down the road, towards the lake. His ears were plastered against his head, and he started alternating between staring down the road and glancing back at me, obviously upset at something. It got to the point where I got out my iPhone and began recording down the road, just in case some creature dashed across it in the area that Hamish was staring at.

Anyway, after about four to five minutes, Hamish started uncontrollably shaking, his tail now pushed up between his legs so far that it actually seemed like it was part of his stomach and chest. Then, with an apologetic look, he urinated all over his legs! He was absolutely terrified, and with his plaintive brown eyes, was practically begging me to help him. I kept looking in the direction he was looking, but saw nothing…so I cleaned him up, and brought him over to our campfire to dry off.

About 30-40 minutes later, as it was starting to get dark, the REALLY terrifying thing happened: as my daughter and I sat next to the fire with the dogs, we heard an almighty “CRASH” from just across the road, followed by a brief “WHOOSH”, and then a loud “THUD”…a tree had been pushed over by someone or something not 80 feet from where we were sitting! We immediately decided to get the hell out of there, so I threw all our stuff on the back of my truck and we hightailed it to get the roughly 75 miles home.

The next week, my son and I went back to the same spot to see if we could find the tree, and we did! See attached photos for details; on the first, my son is standing just off the spot that we think the ‘squatch stood on the downhill side of the tree to pull it over (you get a good view of the broken but fresh and strong roots on the same shot); on the second, you get a better view of the root ball and the disturbance at the root when the tree was pushed over; and on the third, you can see how the tree got caught up in some others on the downslope after it was pulled over. In fact, you can almost see the road and our camp spot through the trees in that third photo.

Anyway, this was my first ever trip to this area, but I have been back to camp three times since, and have had lots of “action”, as it were; tree knocks, some far-off howls, and a sort of wailing moan, followed by two short whoops.

Thought you might be interested in this…

They apparently didn’t like ya hanging round there territory when you humans got the lake all summer! I’m amazed more people don’t report stuff from around there. So many people/families campin there over the summer and nobody sees anything strange,etc..
