Strange Noise In The Woods

A listener writes “I live in northern Michigan, I’m a usmc and Michigan national guard veteran that served in the desert storm, operation restore hope and operation Iraqi freedom in 2006-07.

I used to be a big time metal detecting enthusiast, digging up colonial artifacts all through out northern Michigan this one summer’s day in 2004 I was deep in the woods by goodhart Michigan and I had been out for several hours, I came across a newborn whitetail fawn and was admiring it and decided to take a water and snack break on a hill all of a sudden I started hearing loud noises as if someone was hitting a 2×4 with a hammer, the noise was coming across another hill with a huge ravine in between, I was curious about the noise so I thought I would go investigate.

I walked all over the section of woods where the noise came from and there wasn’t a single soul in the area and I was puzzled at what the noise could be! Years later after watching finding bigfoot and learning about treeknocks it occurred to me what that noise I was hearing!”

My husband served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was in Baghdad the whole year of 2006. I wonder if their paths crossed. I heard a scream once in the woods. It was a few miles, as the crow flies, from Lake Moultrie in South Carolina. My stepdad told me it was owls mating. It terrified me. When the internet came along, more and more information became available, I began looking for the sound I heard. The only sound, even today, that matches it, is a Sasquatch. I was a believer before that tho. I regret not paying more attention to the woods I lived in there. This happened in 1981. Can you imagine tho, 4-6 ft strides?!! That’s a big critter ?
